Sellers Comments - R168 OUS – 1997 Land Rover Defender 90 WOLF Soft Top Getting increasingly hard to find in unspoiled condition, this 1997 example is in excellent condition throughout. Original MOD registration JZ 85 AA and designated TUL (Truck Utility Light) by the MOD and XD (Extra Heavy Duty) by Land Rover. The WOLF Land Rover was tested and rejected, then upgraded and tested again by the British Military before being accepted, and is therefore much stronger and more reliable than the Defender model it is based on.

                    Ex Army Tithonus 110 Defender: MOT 21/10/15. Only 87000 miles. Wonderful condition - £7495

Due to acquiring a recently released 90 Wolf Defender: For sale reluctantly, and in great condition, this 110 Defender Tithonus, with Wolf Spec refurb by the Army, including Wolf wheels, roll bar and internal upgrades such as radiation/insulation kit and like new Exmoor seats. I am the first registered owner since release. This one also has the Wolf type side spare wheel mount and (strangely) one Wolf side air vent to drivers side, although this serves no purpose other than cosmetic. Each Tithonus Land Rover was individually selected and fully refurbished by the MoD in 2007-2008 as part of the British Army LEP (life extension programme).

The project was to extend the overall service life of the Land-Rovers by 10 years, from 20 to 30 years. However, most, as with this one, were released from service 5 years later.

Features include:

2.5ltr NAD engine; 5 speed LT77 gearbox,

Hi/Low transfer box; Centre Diff lock

Front disc brakes

Fully integrated Wolf Roll Cage including front external and rear internal hoop system

Heavy duty 16 inch Wolf rims & good 7.50R16 Michelin XZL tyres

Updated Exmoor front seats with headrest; Front and rear rubber sound proofing matting. Exmoor Military Radiator Muff.

Chequer plating to sills and bonnet. Wolf Hard Top, with Army Anti Radiation/Insulation Kit fitted.

All panels are straight and the paintwork is as expected with newly released Army vehicles, with the odd imperfection of Nato Green here and there. Chassis and Bulkhead superb, and fully waxoyled in October. Also, new Cambelt and full service on first registration in October. These vehicles do not come with power steering and are the purest example of simple, old fashioned motoring. Land rover enthusiasts will understand that. Having said that, this vehicles drives wonderfully, with the gearbox and engine smoother than Defenders that I have previously owned. These engines are not designed for speed, but rather consistent, reliable transport, which is why the Army continued to use them right through the TDi era. If you are looking for an ex MOD appreciating classic, then you will not be disappointed.
