LAND ROVER DEFENDER, GENUINE 90 V8 3.5 STATION WAGON, AS STATED ON V5 DOCUMENT, YEAR 1988.  CHASSIS NUMBER CLEARLY VISIBLE AS WELL AS ENGINE NUMBER, AND ALSO CORRECT TO V5 DOCUMENT.  MILEAGE BELIEVED TO BE GENUINE AS I HAVE A FOLDER SHOWING OLD MOT”S AND BILLS DATING BACK TO 1995.  THE ENGINE IS CORRECT AND ORIGINAL TO THIS VEHICLE,  AND APPEARS DUE TO THE PAPERWORK TO HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED.  MILEAGE 69741.

GEAR BOX LT85 NON PAINTED CROSS HATCHED.  IT HAS HAD 7 OWNERS.

BODY-WISE THE BULKHEAD WAS REPLACED WITH A LATER BULKHEAD WITHOUT THE VENTS WHICH IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, ALL DOORS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION.  THE VEHICLE WAS THEN RESPRAYED IN ROVER METALLIC BLUE, ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO.  THE PAINTWORK IS ALSO IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WITH A SLIGHT SCRAPE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AS CAN BE SEEN IN THE PHOTO.  OTHERWISE THIS COLOUR IS VERY EYE-CATCHING AND STANDS OUT.

INTERIOR IS IN VERY GOOD CLEAN ORIGINAL CONDITION BUT WOULD BENEFIT FROM AN UPGRADE ROOF LINING HAS SOME SAG IN THE MIDDLE, THIS IS MOST COMMON WITH LAND ROVER.  THE SUNROOF OPENS AND CLOSES EASILY AND APPEARS TO BE SOUND WITH NO LEAKS.

ENGINE BURSTS INTO LIFE WITH NO SMOKE, KNOCKS OR RATTLES AND HAS BEEN SERVICED RECENTLY.  THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE SITS NORMALLY WITH NO FLUCTUATIONS, 50/50 ANTI FREEZE, ORIGINAL AIR FILTER BOX AND PIPEWORK ARE INCLUDED IN THE SALE.  NO LOSS OF WATER OR OIL.

GEARBOX ENGAGES IN ALL THE GEARS WITH NO ISSUES.  THRUST BEARING WHINES SLIGHTLY, BUT ONCE THE CLUTCH IS DEPRESSED, THE WHINE DISAPPEARS.  I HAVENT DRIVEN THE LANDY ON THE ROAD SINCE LAST YEAR AS THE MOT HAS EXPIRED.  ONCE THE LANDY IS DRIVEN REGULARLY I THINK THE WHINE WILL GO AWAY ALTOGETHER.  THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE ENGAGES OK.

EXHAUST OK

CHASSIS  IS SOLID WITH LIGHT CORROSION IN PLACES.  FRONT NSF MAIN RAIL NEEDS A MINIMAL OF WELDING SMALL HOLE, AND BOTH OUTRIGGERS NEED A MINIMAL AMOUNT OF WELDING, WITH A WIRE BRUSH RUN OVER THE CHASSIS IT WILL CLEAN UP NICELY WITH A REPAINT OR A WAXOYL WILL LAST FOR MANY YEARS TO COME.  THE REAR CROSS-MEMBER WAS REPLACED 4 YEARS AGO AND HAS A NAS REAR STEP FITTED LAST YEAR.  AN ORIGINAL LAND ROVER NEW OLD STOCK BULL BAR WAS ALSO FITTED RECENTLY.

ELECTRICAL FUEL GAUGE, TEMPERATURE GAUGE, VOLTAGE GAUGE, SIDE LAMPS, HEAD LAMPS, INDICATORS, HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS, NUMBER PLATE LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHTS, REVERSING LAMP, FOG LAMP, HEATER, REAR AND FRONT WIPERS ALL WORK.  IT HAD A NEW BATTERY LAST YEAR.

THERE ARE SOME SMALL AREAS WHERE PAINT HAS FLAKED BUT NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. THERE HAS BEEN SOME PREVIOUS RUST PATCHES TO THE REAR AND SIDE DOORS ( VERY COMMON ON DEFENDERS) AGAIN NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.THE REPLACEMENT SPEEDO WAS SECOND HAND AND SHOWS 147K HOWEVER THE ORIGINAL SHOWED 113K SO THAT IS THE RIGHT MILEAGE.

THIS IS A SERIOUS BIT OF KIT, HOWEVER ITS NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED,SOUNDS GREAT WITH THE V8 RUMBLE AND SITS HIGH WITH THE LIFT KIT AND MASSIVE TYRES SO THIS ISNT THE SORT OFF VEHICLE FOR SHOPPING OR LONG TRIPS, IT IS A ROAD LEGAL OFF ROADER I HAVENT ACTUALLY DRIVEN IT A GREAT DEAL(AND NEVER USED IT OFFROAD) SINCE OWNING IT AS JUST NOT HAD THE TIME. 

ITS IN GOOD CONDITION COMPARED TO MOST DEFENDERS OF SAME AGE AND GREAT UNDERNEATH AND BENEFITS FROM A GALVANISED CHASSIS AS IVE TRIED TO SHOW IN THE PHOTOS. IVE TRIED TO SHOW AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE IN THE PHOTOS BUT WOULD SUGGEST ANY SERIOUS BUYERS COME AND LOOK FIRST.

AS MENTIONED THIS ISNT THE SORT OF VEHICLE TO DRIVE LONG DISTANCES EVEN THOUGH IT DRIVES WELL SO WOULD SUGGEST BUYER TO HAVE TRANSPORTED IF THEY LIVE FAR AWAY.

Land Rover defender 90 (3.9efi V8)

For sale is a Land Rover defender 90 that requires the finishing work to get it Road worthy. I started this as a project around a year ago and as I also have a 110 and looking move house I need to raise some money.

I will list a breakdown of the work that has been completed and what is left to finish. Before I go any further my intention was to Q plate this custom build but as it stands it will come with a Range Rover classic registration, the original ID plate is fitted in the normal place behind the brake servo. This is tax exempt. 

chassis -  has a new rear 1/4 fitted and two new front outriggers. 

Engine - is fitted with a 3.9 V8 egi. ECU, wiring loom and all ancilliaies are fitted and the engine runs nicely, although starter motor solenoid has burnt out so will need replacing prior to it running. I have also fitted a brand new radiator. Engine oil and filter has only just been replaced. Engine has no leaks. Engine also has a brand new distributor fitted. 

Gearbox - 4 speed auto box (ZF 4HP22) currently fitted, works as it should, oil cooler is fitted behind radiator and this is plumbed in and has been filled with oil. Currently no leaks. Although kick down cable has snapped (brand new replacement will

be supplied with vehicle)

Car has front and rear propshafts fitted 

Brand new exhuast system fitted

New rear shocks, springs and retaining plates fitted. One side on the front has a new spring, shock and turret etc although the other side is supplied with the vehicle (brand new) 

New tie rod ends and bars

All doors are in good condition, the fronts have very light surface rust in the usual lower area but are solid and not in usual rotten condition.bulkhead will need very slight adjustment where the bolts meet outriggers (shims) to bring the doors up to catch smoothly but they do shut as is.  

New GRP front bonnet fitted with stainless grill. 

New windscreen and seal fitted/ all new door seals. 

Power steering pump works as it should, although I had a new high pressure hose made up and it weeps at the union so will require further inspection. 

The interior is finished in black exmoor trim. As you might have noticed all of the interior is present and wired, bulkhead in very good condition with no rot/ welding required. I have also fitted an Ashcroft centre console and genuine disco 1 auto shifter which looks the part. It has original defender seats currently fitted. 

The roof is fitted with a 50” roof bar, which is wired in. It is also fitted with an RDX style front grille and light surround. WIPAC LED clear lights are fitted all round ( including reverse, fog and number plate) vehicle has been painted in black raptor. 

There really isn’t much left to finish this vehicle and if it doesn’t sell for what I’m hoping for then I will Dry store and finish at a later date. I won’t accept stupid offers. 

There is most likely bits I’ve missed because  there is so much to write about, but any questions don’t hesitate to ask them. 

I have retained all of the receipts which I will also pass to the next owner for proof of the work completed.

Chassis is a military heavy duty plated top and bottom to add strength,the main chassis rails are deeper

the ends of the chassis above the wheels are standard

Chassis condition as to be expected, surface rust is visable

Bulkhead, this may require attention in the footwells,(common) these are armoured landrovers and have armour that will need removing to examine properly

window glass has delaminated, however it is easy to remove and bring back to life by removing the perspex shield inside

(Ive done several vehicles satisfactory)

engine, ive included a photographs and everything is there that should be

Air conditioning is fitted to this vehicle

The keys are with the vehicle as is the mod654 that is required to road register it

date into service was 19-11-93 making it one of the last 30 built

As stated i have had this vehicle running and driving in the past and it will need a tinker to get it going again as its been sat for some time, its a V8 rover 3500 as fitted by the military

This vehicle served in Northern Ireland and Iraq

there is a club with a wealth of knowledge on these vehicles which are quite sought after especially being a v8 and open to export to the American market.
