Land Rover 101 Forward Control Ambulance 3.5 V8 LPG Classic Military Vehicle RPi - £15995 - Make an offer

Sellers Comments -

After many years together, we have decided to sell our wonderful and much-loved Land Rover 101 Forward Control ambulance to make way for the many project vehicles we have at RPi that are in need of finishing (Including another 101 lol).
We purchased this vehicle directly from the MOD in 1999 and have been the only owners ever since.  It has featured heavily in RPi’s history, carrying staff and equipment to shows across the UK and into Europe. It has also been used a couple of times for some light off roading and featured in many of our videos, old and new as both a prop and a character. After retiring from use as a workhorse for RPi, this 101 was used by our mechanic Steve who nicknamed it “Katy” and displayed it at classic car and military vehicle shows. In November 2016 she was named best vehicle by the Norfolk Internal Combustion Engine Society.

Of course, having been in our care for so long there is an extensive list of work which has been undertaken, and a lot of which can be found documented on our website and Facebook page. In the last few years the 3.5 litre Rover V8 engine has been rebuilt with high compression pistons and refreshed camshaft kit and later date timing cover with larger oil pump. The entire vehicle has been rewired (around 6 years ago), the vacuum unit for the diff lock has been replaced and works perfectly, and of course every single maintenance item has been meticulously looked after to keep this 101 in top condition, even down to a fresh coat of paint within the last 3 years in the colour it would have been painted in had it served in the Gulf War. The MOT is until February 2020 and there have been no advisories in the last 4 years.

As above, the engine is a 3.5 litre Rover V8 engine, with higher compression pistons fitted as well as some later date heads. Fuelling is LPG supplied from twin sill tanks, feeding a four barrel carburettor via an RPi power plenum and mixer ring set up. We have always run on LPG only, however included in the sale will be a fuel can so that you can use the vehicle on petrol in an emergency if needed. The ignition system has been upgraded with the RPi A&R amplifier, Magnecor plug leads and Bosch 12V coil for maximum efficiency even in a large vehicle like this.

Inside, there is space for the driver and a single passenger in the front, with a bench seat in the rear with belts for a further two passengers. Aside from that, the rear is completely empty, meaning that this would make for an excellent starting point for a camper van or overlanding/exploration vehicle with plenty of space for all the fixtures and fittings you could want. On top of that, there is an access panel to the roof, where we have fitted two roof racks for even more storage space. The roof is also accessible via a ladder on the back if you prefer and makes a great platform for photography or even a picnic.

If you have never driven or even sat in a 101, you are in for a treat as they provide an experience like no other car, or even other vehicle, ever made. It certainly won’t be as quiet or comfortable as a brand new Range Rover (or even an old one) and you won’t be going anywhere in a hurry, but you will feel unstoppable and you can take any route you like to get where you’re going regardless of the terrain. The character and road presence are truly not matched.
The photos in beige paint are current, the photos where the 101 is painted black and green are archive photos from our history showing the old paint scheme.

Land Rover 101 forward control, light project - £5500 ONO

101 ambulance with specially built one off coach built body on it.
From what I can gather this was built about 15 years ago to be used for 4x4 excursions in Poland where it was used for a few years and then made it's way back to the uk
link here to an old write up on it copy and paste to view

 http://www.101club.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2795&p=27590&hilit=Poland#p27590

The body is a very neat well made professionally built the width of a radio body and the roofline of an ambulance and now seats 7 in comfort with seat belts. And a separate rear locker section for luggage and spares. Ideal base for a superb overland vehicle.
Also installed before the body is a gs roll hoop front and rear so it is a bit safer for it's passengers.
It has been completely rewired for the auxiliary equipment and the original Lucas harness has been replaced, a wiring diagram is with it and it's a very neat job and everything works. Two new laminated screens have just been fitted due to the originals being damaged.
Body and chassis wise it is very good and does not require any work to be used on the road, I have had it running on petrol, it also has a gas kit fitted but I have not tried the gas.
To make it roadworthy it will require a few mechanical jobs to be finished that I don't have time to do this side of winter, the previous owner started to convert it to an autobox, which is in place and the oil cooler is mounted in place but I am undecided on sourcing a manual gearbox and convert it back to manual if I were to keep it but for the moment it's being offered for sale as a half auto conversion just in case anybody wants it as an auto which many say is the best way to go with a 101 as it will drive a bit more like a range rover classic and a bit less hectic in traffic situations
A weekend of tinkering and this could be mot'd but I have no intention of looking at it until the spring so it's up for sale before I end up storing it for the winter. the work required on this is reflected in the price, for the cost of a few parts and a weeks work this will be worth around double the asking price when it is on the road.
Having owned many 101s this is by far the most civillian friendly one i have had the pleasure of owning and will make somebody a very well sorted unique land rover.
Viewings welcome, if you decide to bid or use the buy it now please make sure you actually want it and are able to pick it up, it will fit on a twin axle brian james clubman trailer as i have had it on one.

Land Rover 101 / Defender Forward Control - Diesel - ready for work or play 1977

Sellers Comments- Land Rover 101 / Defender Forward Control - Diesel - ready for work or play. Land Rover 101 rebuilt to a very high standard in 2015 with lots of unique features and tons of new parts. This vehicle is reliable and easy to get parts for when needed [read on]. I have owned this 101 for the last 15 years. In this time it has only missed 1 Mot and this was only because I was working on it and it was under SORN at the time. It has been re-built as the base vehicle for an overland camper. Due to a change of plan the 101 is now for sale. The basic spec is 2.5 tdi Diesel with Power assisted steering, 5 speed gearbox, disc brakes on the front, rewired, re-engineered to get rid of the niggles that the standard 101 has. The 128 ltr fuel tank has a range of about 600 miles. The chassis has been stripped, repaired in a few places, repainted with an anti-rust paint, then red oxide paint, then black paint. It was then coated inside and out with lots of waxoil. There is no rust. The unique truck cab has been fabricated from aluminium with a big roll over bar built in and sprayed with 2K paint. It has been fully sound-insulated and carpeted and is comfortable on the motorway at 60mph, top speed is 70mph. The purpose-built cab doors are aluminium with full sized wind-down windows. It has been rewired throughout with relays and fuses and has new lights. It has refurbished Defender seats and, as a special feature, the drivers seat goes back further than normal to accommodate the taller driver. There is a cd/radio and 4 speakers. There is also a rear sliding door. The special 101 shaped dash-board houses the Defender clocks and turbo boost gauge. Windscreen glass is new. Engine: Land Rover 200 Tdi which breathes through the front mounted snorkel and a large Allisport intercooler, silicone hoses and a full stainless steel exhaust. To date the engine has done approx’ 110k miles of which 23k have been done by me in the 101. [I saw the doner Discovery that the engine came from, it had 87k on the clock]. The engine has recently had a new cam belt. It has a uprated recored radiator with an extra thick core and a Kenlowe cooling fan and also has a low water buzzer. The gearbox is new - it has an Ashcroft re-built uprated R380 5-speed gearbox with a front mounted oil cooler. The transfer box has an enlarged sump for extra cooling. The prop-shafts are new, heavy duty, with wide angle yokes. [No nasty prop rumble]. Power assisted steering is powered by an Adwest 4 bolt box (Defender/Discovery) with a heavy duty track rod. All steering joints have grease nipples. The leaf springs are mounted to the chassis with Polybushes throughout and shock absorbers are Terrafirma big bore expedition front and rear. The front axle is a re-built Land Rover Defender 110 front axle with vented discs brakes. It has an Ashcroft 4 pin diff and heavy duty half shafts and heavy duty drive flanges. The rear axle is a rebuilt Salisbury 110 rear axle with drum brakes, new pipes and flexible throughout. All wheels and tyres are new. Cooper STT 315/75 r16 on black 8” Modular rims. Unique stainless steel wheel steps embossed with one 0 one. Locking wheel nuts. Head lights are Crystal halogen x 4 with left and right hand dips for if you go overseas. Main beam is all 4 lights. Front bull bar also holds 2 jerry cans. The 101 comes with 2 new unused spare tyres and approx’ £1000 worth of spare parts to keep the truck on the road. Feel free to ask questions and come and look at this unique vehicle in the flesh. I will take you for a drive and give you the opportunity to see how special it is. Vehicle is in Nottingham, NG9.
