The Land Rover Defender is an off-road vehicle produced under this name by the British manufacturer, Land Rover, since 1991. However, the vehicle is the direct heir of the first Land Rover that made its debut in 1948. The first prototype was built by the British automaker in 1947 and it was designed for the army. This iconic car was improved over the years and it has been known for generations as a national treasure.

1981 LAND ROVER 109 COUNTY STATION WAGON - GALVANISED CHASSIS
Sellers Comments - I've owned the truck for nine years, but emigrated to Australia four years ago (where I have another LR) and it has sat in my parent's garden since then.
I used the car in the UK for a few years and drove from Cardiff to London on a weekly basis without issue until the gearbox packed up.
Shortly after this I fitted a spare gearbox (appears to work fine but leaks from the sump) and started to sort out the interior as the side frames had rusted away. The bulkhead is toast and probably not worth repairing, but there are new side frames fitted (backordered from Land Rover Thames Ditton) and all the doors & door tops are the extremely rare early 110 two-piece type.
Before I bought the vehicle it was owned by a wildlife painter (David Shepherd) who had the car rebuilt onto a Richards galvanised chassis along with all the associated bushes, etc and fitted a gas kit.
The car comes with all the parts needed to put it back together, along with the usual boxes of new parts that I never got around to fitting. Most of the aluminium panels are unpainted as I was going to respray in limestone and the rear seats will need holes re-drilling to refit as the panel there was corroded (and replaced).
Some more info below on what's been replaced and what it has:
- galvanised chassis
- engine is an army-reconditioned (green) 5-bearing 2.25 petrol
- LPG kit, which has always worked perfectly
- early 110 two piece aluminium sliding door tops
- brownchurch roof rack
- new side frames & brackets
- powdercoated seat frames, grab rail, etc.
- x6 county (tweed pattern) seats
- x5 wolf wheels with decent mud plugger tyres
- salisbury rear axle
- new exhaust
- vinyl county trim
Some stuff I know will definitely need repairing before it's usable:
- engine doesn't run as the starter just clicks - could be the battery or starter solenoid as the engine turns over fine with the starting handle.
- bulkhead is rotten in the footwells, door posts, top rail, etc...
- no petrol tank - it was rusty (MOT failure), so I removed it as the car ran perfectly on gas.
- clutch master cylinder as clutch pedal is on the floor
- nearside front wheel bearing
Other stuff:
- the door bottoms are a little crusty in the bottom corners - I'd removed the door skins to fix these, so I've just put these back on temporary for now
- the safari roof is in fairly good condition except for an aerial hole above the rear view mirror and a bit of corrosion in the rear
- the bonnet frame is a bit crusty, but still seems rigid enough
- both propshafts need refitting - never got around to it after the gearbox was replaced.
The car is located in Wraysbury and will need to be taken on a trailer as it's not running. Cash on collection please, within seven days of end of auction.

1981 LAND ROVER SERIES 3 88" 4 CYL DIESEL BLUE 78000 MILES
Sellers Comments - Auction for my 1981 Land Rover series III Diesel 4WD with just 78077 Miles showing on the Clock. I don't know much about these, but 'think' it's a Short wheel base, and looking at the weight and also on google, I 'think' this is the "1 Ton" variant?? Land Rover Buffs please feel free to correct me or give some info as to exactly what this is! It's a nice looking thing, starts right up even after months of being stood, hasn't been on the road for approx 8 years, so has no MOT (Last MOT'd 29th October 2007) and will need trailering away. I can deliver this myself no problem on a recovery truck anywhere in the U.K. for approx £1.40 per mile from me to you so, for example, If you live 100 Miles away, this will be £140 delivered safely, and it will be delivered with the utmost care and attention being my vehicle personally delivered to you.

Land Rover Series 3 88" 1981 Rebuilt On a Galvanised Chassis
Sellers Comments - 12 months MOT Will Be Supplied with the Car .
Resprayedl and updated only 4 years ago, Completely Rebuilt,
This smart Series 3 has a very good specification and history - firstly it has only had three former keepers! Secondly, it has been rebuilt in recent years onto a new galvanised chassis. At this point, many upgrades were added .
OVERDRIVE - ideal for longer runs on larger roads
FREE WHEELING HUBS - reduces fuel consumption and wear to front axle components
ELECTRIC FAN - improves fuel economy (Kenlowe)
LPG - this has been professionally installed, and obviously transforms running costs. 60p a litre
Overdrive and FWH giving much better economy over standard fitments. This configuration, particularly with the strong galvanised chassis, would be ideal for anyone wanting to be seen in a classic Land Rover, yet wishes to use it as one would a more modern vehicle.
Interior has a neat cubby box for jack and tools and a useful stereo for longer journeys,
4 great off RD Tyres with only a few thousand miles use and a good spare on the bonnet where it should be,high and low range work perfectly as does the 4 speed gearbox with overdrive
inside you can easily switch from LPG to petrol without need to stop if underway,
On the outside, the vehicle sports both uprated headlamps, and large driving lamps. Although these extra lights are non standard, they give superb illumination, which is a real benefit, especially at this time of year. To the rear there is a towbar and electrics already fitted.
On the inside, the LPG tank is tucked neatly at the rear load area, leaving lots of room still for cargo, all tanks are encased in aluminium tread plate to protect and look cool with a viewing window to check levels, the system has gas fuel gauge in the cabin that also allows all fuel to be turned off should you wish to
Up front in the cabin are very good adjustable seats and a rubberised interior that's easy to keep clean
The LPG system has been recently checked and certificated, and the logbook reflects the fuelling system and engine upgrade, so the insurance requirements in terms of paperwork are already in place.

1981 LAND ROVER 109 Series 3 Long Wheel Base Ex MOD/Coast Guard
Landrover 109 series 3 long wheel base. In very good condition for its age its an Ex MOD Coast Guard Vehicle hence the paint Job which appears to be painted over the original army green. It drives really well with the usual old Landrover feel. It will sit at a steady 50/60 on the motor way no problem. I am selling because I need the money and I'm sad to see it go. The MOT has recently run out but i'm genuinely confident that it wont need much to pass this time, I just need a quick sale thats why I have not put it through. It runs really well the engine sounds sweet and everything works. The gearbox and 4 wheel drive gearbox work fine. The Chassis is in really good condition not needing any welding that I can see. It was sold to me as having a galvanized chassis but I cant see much of the galv left so i am not going to list at as this but I thought it was worth mentioning. It is on safari tyre at the moment but the valve just popped on one so it is on the spare wheel atm. 1981 model first registered for the road 1991. Mileage is 11000 Km so approx 69000 miles

For Sale - £2995 - 1981 LAND ROVER 88" Series 3 SWB - Chippenham Wilts
1981 Series 3 short wheelbase Land Rover 2.25 petrol,
non-overdrive model. Previously owned by
BT and professionally converted to unleaded in their workshops. Overall, in
good condition for year, starts goes and stops well (as well as can be expected
for a series Landy).
Bodywork in good condition, some surface rust to chassis -
to be expected, but nothing serious. Few
dents here and there, but haven't they all?
Sitting on a set of mid '80's chunky Weller steel wheels and off-road
tyres but a set of genuine series steel rims is included. They need a serious wire brushing, repainting
and re-tyring, but they're included nonetheless.
Inside, genuine series rubber matting fitted in the front,
County seats fitted, so a little more comfortable than standard. Everything working as it should, not that
there's any fancy boy equipment in these things, it's a pretty agricultural
experience owning a series Landy! The
car starts on the button and idles smoothly, runs very sweet, no noises or
knocks from the engine or transmission.
Gets along about as well as can be expected for one of these old cars,
so about 50mph max if your ears can take the noise!
Features include: first generation parking distance control,
front and rear (tow bars); organic power steering (really clever system,
harnesses the power of your arms and shoulders to power the steering); sliding
windows - not much to go wrong there.
There is a brand new cubby box to be fitted in place of the centre seat,
bought it with all good intentions.......... Comes with adaptive stereo system,
instantly adapts to the driver including required volume (you gotta sing).
The only thing not working is the front spot lamps..... all
the wiring seems to be in place, possibly a bad earth somewhere or duff units -
again, haven't got round to looking at it properly.
To the uninitiated, these old Landy's are VERY basic,
painted metal inside - very little in the way of insulation either from
cold/heat or noise. The seats do not
adjust in the accepted sense of the word, so if you're over 5'8", they can
be a bit uncomfortable after a fairly short period of time. There is no electric anything....... no power
anything...... the steering is very heavy to those used to driving modern PAS
equipped cars, as is the clutch and the gearbox has a gate wide enough to drive
a shire horse through. You can see
daylight around the doors (they're all like that, sir), the heating is about as
effective as an old lady breathing on you, they're noisy and SLOW..... having
said all that, they are great fun to drive, will go pretty much anywhere and,
being a big boys meccano set, if you don't like it the way it is, get the
spanners out and everything above the waist simply unbolts. Really versatile old vehicle. Only selling as I no longer have the
requirement for an occasional tow vehicle.
Great to use as is or drive and improve.
If I was keeping it, the crap carpet (previous owner) in teh rear would
have to come out and the rear folding bench seats be refurbished. A weekend with a paintbrush would have this old
Landy looking excellent.
Car is located in Chippenham, Wiltshire, bring along proof
of insurance if you want a test drive.
If you've never driven one before, definitely recommend it before
committing to buy one! Viewings welcome,
any questions email me through eBay. I
am open to sensible offers and maybe the odd part exchange if it is of
interest.
