Landrover 88" 2.25 litre petrol. - 1980

Sellers Comments - Landrover 88" 2.25 litre petrol. Not used since 1990.. only 58,000 miles. Local family owned and bought from original owner, Coventry City Council. (see log book image). Rare UCC Hydraulic pump installed from new with a take off at rear, all working. Mechanically this Landy is all there and works. Engine has had a small service with water pump and Alternator replaced. Starter motor has been rebuilt along with a new carb. (original carb included but will need servicing/ cleaning). Chassis is solid but needs rear member and some welding on back section under tub. Spares included (new knobs, gear gaiter, brake line to rear with flex). Clutch master cylinder has been replaced with new lines and slave cylinder. Gears and 4x4 transfer/ low range all work. Comes with a truck cab, door tops (need a clean up/ work), Canvas rear tilt with Galv frame. Tin ware for footwells and gear tunnel (removed to clean chassis/ gearbox linkage). This Land Rover Lightweight has been my restoration project over the last 2 years. Towards the end I dropped everything else to work on it full Time and is now back to the original, great condition. It is fitted for radio (FFR) which is still presently retaining some of its original radio equipment. 

Some of the work carried out 

-This Lightweight was built on a new chassis which has been fully rust proofed and undersealed with no expense spared.

-It has brand new DeeStone 16x7.50 tyres which is the replica of the original tyre.Still have one spare GoodYear on the bonnet 

-Repainted in Olive Drab paint mixed especially to the right formula (no shine)

-brand new heavy duty shock absorbers 

-Upgraded military spec wolf door tops

-Air Filter 

-New original Carburetor 

- ignition overhauled with correct timing to run on 95 octane

Ex mod series 3 FFR 2.25 petrol spent quite a lot on this old girl in the last 6 months new brakes, brake pipes, brake master cylinder, 2 out riggers rear cross member new seats out of a defender, old ones can be included but are ripped. Starts on the button runs drives and stops. There is 2 problems the fuel gauge doesn't work. Tank sender is seized and there is a knocking from the gearbox only hear it when you pull away I believe it's a bearing as I've driven it for a year or so with no problems

Sellers Comments Land Rover Series III Lightweight Full FFR With Radio Operators Table 1980 Almost as it was de-mobbed apart from the addition of freewheel front hubs. Has radio operators sliding table in back and a battery box cover (no battery cradle). Fully kitted rear tub for five radio stations on the transverse radio operators table. Some 24v wiring will be left in place. Transverse dexion racking in place and also near side dexion racking with 2 additional backpack clip-in radio facilities. MOT due to expire next month, currently on a SORN. Comes with a brand new bulk head vent panel. There is a Fairy Overdrive available for this vehicle, Overdrive is in excellent condition, was fitted to this vehicle. Chassis looks to be good for another MOT. There is also available AT EXTRA COST a full hard-top conversion i.e. two sides, roof panel and lift up rear door.

The Niggly Bits

Fuel gauge works sometimes

speedo has never worked since ive had it so i couldn't tell you an accurate mileage if i tried

Passenger seat isnt bolted down due to fuel tank being underneath and never coming up with a decent way to bolt the seat down and still get to the fuel cap

The seats are great for the narrower chap, but others may find them uncomfortable

The Bad Bit

The passenger side foot well has gone a bit rusty with a small hole.

The military in its blood is trying to fight with its cow exterior resulting in some sort of cow-camo, this is really annoying when pressure washing as the paint flakes get everywhere.

This Land rover has seen off road a couple times in my ownership and im sure plenty more times in its life, its got scratch's and dents and a rubbish paint job, but i love it.

Land Rover 1980 109 Series 3 - KDF 695V

This starts, runs well drives yet the steering is very heavy / stiff - needs attention as it is so heavy it would best be trailered away not driven long distances, the headlights need attention yet other lights appear to work. Sold as seen. There are a couple of small boxes of spare nuts and bolts and gaskets etc. included in the sale. This is the V6 Petrol engined Model.

Sellers Comments - 1980 series 3 petrol, fitted with parabolic springs,sumpgaurd, highlift suspension, set of Goodrich tyres on big wheels, paintwork good , a few small dents, bulkhead is very rust free, small patch welded to floor, footwell the pillars are original and rust free,chassis sound it has had a couple of outriggers at some time,and repair to rear cross member, engine runs ok but clutch needs bleeding, it works but needs pumping, the landrover has not been used for some time so could do with a few jobs prior to using, I think it should mot with out much trouble, everything appears to work ok, I bought it originally to fit a 200tdi but to many other projects,viewing welcome and preferred prior to bidding,would need transporting do to no mot or tax,sold as a running project, bidders with low feedback please message first or bid will be removed, don't want to have to relist as seems to be the latest trend. -  More Info - Additional Photos

Please understand this is not a modern 4wd, this is a no nonsense truck with not a hint of carpet in sight. Hose out chequer plate floor and vinyl seats. Built tough to last. No welding or rust on chassis or footwells.

Land Rover 1980 Pickup

This Land Rover is in a yard I purchased along with various other cars and trucks. I have researched its history and found it was exported then returned to the UK in around 2011 ,At this time it was converted to a V8. The truck runs and is very sweet on the engine , it has a brake binding problem which obviously affects performance, other than that it seems to be solid and clean. The TAX disc in the window proves it was on the road 07/2014 so cant be in to bad a shape. It will need an MOT and comes with V5 .

Land Rover 1980, SWB ( 88'') Diesel, Series 3, Very good cond. MOT april 2016

It is a 35 year old diesel (5 years to go for free tax) and as far as I can tell it is the original Perkins engine.

comparatively rare.  This vehicle is in good condition for age bodywork is very straight. (see Land Rover Owner International, Dec' 2013 issue - "buying a Series 3", which uses this type as an example).
The MOT runs until April 2016.
The chassis has had a lot of work carried out on it prior to my purchase and looks very good and is complete with new, shocks, rear cross member and also has a tow hook.  Any steel to aluminium contact has been gasketed to prevent metal on metal reaction.  The bulkhead has been fully repaired, as have the seat boxes and foot wells.  The brakes have been replaced when the chassis work was done.  It has also had new lights.
I have replaced the driver's door complete and the passenger door top for new including glazing, which enhances the integrity. Forward gears work fine in two wheel drive, four wheel drive high and low ratio.  The previous owner tells me there is also a new clutch fitted but I haven't attempted to verify that.  It starts as it should and does not run smokey.
As with any old Landy, there are a few 'isms!.

1980 LAND ROVER 88" - 4 CYL Series IIa no reserve! - Location Swanage - Petrol - Owned for the last ten years

FOR SALE: Land Rover 88" series 2a, first registered 08/01/1980.

I've owned her for about ten years; I had a house in the South of France that I originally used as a main home and then used as a second home. I'd always wanted a Series IIa and found this one; we bought her and drove her down to the South of France with family on board, family dog and towing a trailer. She stayed at our house in France, and once we moved back to the UK, was used as a runabout whilst we were staying in France on holidays.

She's always run well and anyone who's looking at these knows how desirable they are. This is a lovely example, unmolested, not modified with big wheels/high lift etc and is ideal for either restoration, work and use as she is (a good honest workhorse) or even turning into a fully-fledged off roader for green laning etc. She drives beautifully and always has done.

It's currently on SORN and also doesn't have an active MOT; my daily is a Discovery 3 and so I've not got back round to putting the old girl back on the road. Obviously any inspection or appointment is more than welcome; I live in Swanage (BH19) and if you would like to come and see her, please let me know in advance and we can sort something out.

These are really versatile; it's got bench seats in the back (great for kids) and the top unbolts (these are all modular etc so it's all interchangeable) - great for summers!

She's also got the freewheeling hubs so great basis for off roading. She's also got an overdrive fitted so cruises nicely on the motorway.

As she's spent the last ten years in the South of France, she's in good order - remarkably little rust apart from surface rust, and been well looked after. What she needs now is some TLC but she's a good, solid, honest vehicle who needs to be taken on and restored back to everyday order.

I've also fitted a new battery to her and she turns over fine but hasn't caught. I've not had time to get her going and points etc probably need looking at and replacing, but these really are indestructible vehicles and will be a lovely little project for someone. Mileage - I've not listed as with a car this age, who knows exactly what it is, it's had a replacement instrument cluster at one time so she needs looking at and appreciating.

Unfortunately, I can't devote the time and attention she needs to getting up and running but she really is all there and together. Once MOT'd and taxed, it'll be a fantastic car for someone and I genuinely will be saddened to see her go.
