The Land Rover Defender is an off-road vehicle produced under this name by the British manufacturer, Land Rover, since 1991. However, the vehicle is the direct heir of the first Land Rover that made its debut in 1948. The first prototype was built by the British automaker in 1947 and it was designed for the army. This iconic car was improved over the years and it has been known for generations as a national treasure.

1972 Land Rover Series 3 109 LWB Station Wagon
Sellers Comments -
Ready for a Safari or camping or going just about anywhere in classic (albeit faded) style? Or do you simply want a weekend tootle and tinker vehicle? Or are you looking for a great base car ready to take to the next level of resto? Then look no further, here it is! Tax free classic so it costs virtually nothing to have it on your driveway each year as you play.
For sale is our very straight and honest 109 11/12 seater station wagon. Unlike many others this has not been upgraded as far as I am aware other than a recent insertion of the 2.5 NA Diesel motor that runs beautifully and pulls uphill in all gears (rare) and a Ken Lowe fan to give it the space it needs (and excellent hot weather performance if you are going to Morocco a la the Marrakesh Express...).
It is not without its faults being a 43 year old car but that is its charm. We bought it as a family car that we could go exploring and not worry about the kids enjoying it too. All the issues are easily fixed for those fussed and include:
It is noisy, breezy, has the classic Landy lean but gets great comments wherever she goes and looks the part. It is a work in progress (as they will always be) but definitely drivable and on the road now. I took it to a car boot sale to get rid of other stuff on the weekend and she carried a huge load with seats folded back and on roof rack. Performed faultlessly and received a huge amount of interest and a few offers.Buy and drive home or, well, anywhere.
Oh, and it has a second fuel tank in the wheelwell compartment in the rear for those longer journeys or as a spare.
Comes with one years MOT (already in place).

- Chassis is in excellent repaired condition (could do with a paint and waxoyl to keep it so)
- Bulkhead in excellent condition.
- Full galavanised Brownchurch Expedition roofrack and ladder.
- Comes with both center front seat and cubby.
- It comes with a second complete set of wheels with essentially new tyres, jack and wheel brace.
- It has a new radiator and Ken Lowe fan.
- Free Wheeling hubs.
- Brand new tan seat belts in front (have belts and brackets for rear forward facing seats if required)
- One year old heavy duty battery.
- I also have a box full of new window and door seals ready to go in after deciding if to paint or not.
- Originally Limestone in colour it has been painted a satin green by a previous owner. Admittedly it is not the best paint job in the world but it has an excellent patina and can stay as is for the greenlaner. Alternatively as the panels are so straight it could be brought really up to the next level quite easily with a new paintjob. Small dings and holes here and there as expected for age.
It is not without its faults being a 43 year old car but that is its charm. We bought it as a family car that we could go exploring and not worry about the kids enjoying it too. All the issues are easily fixed for those fussed and include:
- The rear floor and door are both overlaid with aluminium checkerplate.
- Dash cracked.
- Driver's side windscreen panel edges are fogged (but still legal- is the only advisory on latest MOT). Don't notice it driving but visible. (Only haven't replaced as couldn't decide whether to shell out for a heated glass or not.)
- Side window runners could do with replacing (get the Series 2/3 club plastic ones, they are great or renew with original brushstyle)
- The door rubbers (included) should be put on to help seal her up from wind, rain and noise.
- Doors are good but ready for a little tidying at their bottom frames before they get out of hand.
- Odometer says 22758. I have no idea whether that is accurate or not!

LANDROVER SERIES 3 TAX EXEMPT GALAVANISED CHASIS 1972
Sellers Comments LANDROVER SERIES 3 STATION WAGON, TAX EXEMPT ON A GALVANISED CHASIS 1972 2.25 petrol I have had this Landy for about 5 years now and it has served me well it starts and runs and drives in all gears has free wheeling hubs and four wheel drive all working. The Landy has not been molested and is original bar the green pain which i did when i bought the vehicle. The landrover was put on a galvanised chasis in 1988 i have the reciept along with other history. The door pillars and bulk head are in good shape and have a good few years in them still. If you know anything about these landrover, then you will know what you are looking at. A Series 3 station wagon with safari roof short wheel base on a galvanised chasis are quite rare and if you are looking for one to resore this is the Best. This was my intesion but due to circumstances and other projects I have to let my Landy.I have the rear seats also.It Passed MOT today no issues, obviously needs some TLC but drives and runs well. Please no time waisters, I reserve the right to withdraw from auction as vehicle is advertised else where.

LAND ROVER SERIES 3, 88, 1972, SOFT TOP, TAX EXEMPT, ROVER 3.5 V8, 4x4 Offroad
.
For sale is my 1972 Series 3 Land Rover which is tax exempt (Historic Vehicle class) with a petrol 3.5 Rover V8 (SD1).
I have not driven it for 6 years now and spent 4 years stored in my garage. I have since purchased a further 2 toys which has now evicted it to the driveway and I no longer have time to use it for what its designed for.
The previous owner had completed a ground up restoration on it and have all photos/dvd of what he had done. It was also featured on the front page of the Land Rover Monthly magazine with an article about it, which I still have.
From memory it has the following;
Suffix D series 3 Gearbox (i think). Yellow and red levers. Also has an overdrive
Kenlowe electric fan (Comes on at certain temp, with a manual override)
New front half shafts
Replaced both diffs for a better ratio
8500lb electric winch run from a separate battery (Has a switch to redirect the charge from alternator to each battery) - I have never used it but was working with remote when I bought the Land Rover.
2 x Cobra bucket seats with custom made Land Rover fabric in front and 4 x fold-up seats in rear each with the same custom made Land Rover fabric
Heavy duty spare wheel carrier on rear door.
I remember that the soft top cover was made from a special type of canvas but do not recall...
Rocky mountain suspension - Leaf springs
4 x driving lamps on roof (detachable)
Snorkel
PA system with aerial
35" Goodyear Wrangler Tyres (35x12.50R15) - Rarely needs to be in 4WD mode with these
Stainless steel twin exhaust system
New Radiator
As already mentioned, I have not driven this since 2011 and has been stored mostly in garage until recently. It ran fine back then and it starts and moves now (Jump started due to old battery), however I will not say its a runner or runs smooth as I don't know and it has no MOT, tax or insurance to test drive. I would therefor treat this as a running project that may need some mechanical work and a good service to be able to drive on the road.
This Land Rover is made for offroading and never let me down for the few times I went green laning and to Salisbury plain. It was a beast of a vehicle with a loud v8 rumble which never got boring to hear. I also used it as a commuter to work in the summer, with drum brakes all round, no power steering and 35" wheels it always kept you on your toes which for me was the best part of driving it.
Things required to fix/fit;
New battery
Hazard lights don't work but individual indicators do work (Possibly flasher unit needs replacing)
Currently the snorkel is not connected to the carbs but I do have the pipe and fittings for it
Paintwork is a bit scabby all round with grazes from trees here and there from green laning
The Kenlowe fan has been taken off to fit the new radiator and was never put back on. I do have new fittings for it though
The grille also needs bolting back on after fitting the fan
Has no MOT, and with no test drive I cannot say its roadworthy so please consider transporting it!
Viewing is highly recommended. Cash on collection is preferred with a £200 deposit through Paypal upon winning the auction.
Any questions please feel free to email...
Good luck and thanks for looking.

1972 Land Rover Series III SWB
Sellers Comments 2.25 Litre petrol engine Freewheel Hubs Road Fund Licence exempt Recently supplied and serviced by The Land Rover Centre, this lovely Series III is ready for winter! Repainted in Deep Bronze Green, the chassis has been refurbished and it drives very well. Within the last few months, the front brakes have been rebuilt and new front springs fitted with less than 50 miles since. The underneath has just been cleaned off and treated with Dinitrol rust killer, proofing and protection by a specialist company. The 88” Series III is probably the most useable of all the Series Land Rovers, and good examples aren’t that easy to find. Values are on the rise – have a look at what some specialists are asking for similar examples! You can spend £7k on a rubbish one, or buy this one and save yourself years of pain and expense.

For Sale - LAND ROVER SERIES 3 - 1972 - Grimsby - Online Auction
Sellers Comments
For auction I have my Land Rover series 3 short wheel base. I have owned it only for a few months. Was a must buy as I have known of this vehicle for some years. It was owned by a local chap, who around 10 years ago set about a complete rebuild. He removed the old Diesel engine, had the original chassis shot blasted, repaired as required and then sent it off to be acid dipped / cleaned and galvanised. At the same time he did the same to the bulkhead, which was modified first to take the ROVER V8 engine. The front radiator panel was treated similarly and all body cappings also re- galvanised.
The rebuild then included parabolic springs , polly bushes, Range Rover 3.54 diffs, Rover SD1 engine, and more.
Roll forward a few years and some use and maybe a little abuse, the Land-Rover, due to his work commitments was layed up and stood unused for almost 3 years. That's where I came in. I bought it as a Winter project and have spent many hours and a fair bit of cash improving, but in doing so have neglected other things and my other projects, so one has to go and I have decided this is the one.
The list of the work I have completed is extensive, some jobs small, others more involved, but a brief list, is as follows :-
Trans: brake o/h, inc; new mintex shoes, return springs and oil seal.
Rear diff removed to drill casting to fit filler / level plug.
All brakes inspected, freed off, bled, adjusted.
New axle casing breathers.
New rear hub oil seals and seal landing rings fitted.
All oil levels checked, topped up or changed.
Engine oil and filter changed.
New remote oil filter pipes.
New spark plugs and HT leads.
One new fuel pipe.
New speedo cable.
New choke cable.
New genuine part, LUCAS indicator switch assembly.
New military style , LUCAS ignition switch.
New lamp lens.
Replacement headlamp.
Various wiring replaced.
Alternator replaced with good used unit.
Near side sill panel changed.
The above is not the full list and in addition the starter motor, fuel tank and facet fuel pump have been recently replaced.
The Land Rover flew through its MOT test, drives very well and the engine sounds as it should. There are a few negative points, the front brakes will need new shoes within next year, depending on mileage covered, the door tops are corroded and could do with renewal and the engine suffers from a fuelling problem. Maybe the carbs need o/h. I did find a blockage in the tank pick up pipe, but that has been rectified, the fuel pump checked ( it is almost new ) and in line filters cleaned. I could, I am sure resolve the fault , but having spent so much time on the vehicle, I have a list of other things to do.
In conclusion, the previous owner rebuilt the Land Rover to last a long time, with a galvanised chassis and bulkhead and in that respect he did a good job. With a little bit more work, the vehicle will give many more years of service and pleasure. It is tax exempt and I only paid £78.00 for insurance and that is declaring the 3.5 v8 engine details , but then I am getting on in years.
You are welcome to any inspection, a coffee or tea, chat about Land-Rovers and take her for a drive on a test run if you have insurance. I am not desperate to sell, as if there is no interest, then I will keep it and progress the improvements next Spring , when it is more pleasant to work outside. As far as price is concerned, I am looking to recover my outlay, excluding my time. There is no reserve and for a Land Rover on a galvanised chassis and bulkhead, it is a very realistic if not low start price.
Thanks for looking.

1972 LandRover Series 3 109 (tax exempt).
Sellers Comments - This is my lovely old 1972 109. It requires a gearbox, as it expired last week after several months of trouble free use and I simply don't have the time or motivation or space to work on another one just at present. I've used this vehicle every day for several months and it's about what you'd expect for a Series 109, The mileage wont be correct (it never is on these) and it requires a couple of welds (as pictured), but there is no terminal corrosion, the chassis itself is pretty good and the 4 cylinder petrol is about the smoothest I've ever owned and I've had many series Landrovers. There are the usual dents and knocks and custom additions, here and there, but nothing really noticeable. I believe this vehicle was in an earlier life, originally a 6 cylinder petrol The gentleman who owned it previously had spent over several previous years, a great deal of money on it, ie new rear cross member, headlights, new fuel tank, brake cylinders and shoes, replacement engine, swivel pin housings etc and much much more, in fact I have all the bills and they add up to an awful lot! Due to the gearbox problem, i'd advice the buyer to have a trailer winch, as I can't guarantee it will pull itself up under its own power, it may, but could totally give up the ghost when it's half way up! the problem does sound rather terminal! I'm always totally honest when selling, as I myself would not wish to be sold anything with horrible surprises in store! so please, if you've any questions feel free to email me or phone me on 01946 693929. Please remember that this is basically a 1948 designed 44 year old ladder chassis truck, so subsequently drives like one, It's noisy, zero to 60 is via a calendar, it's rather uncomfortable and with the turning circle of the Exon Valsez, so if you're not used to them, you'll be in for a nasty shock! but after saying all that, I still love 'em! This vehicle is advertised elsewhere so I do reserve the right to end this auction at any time. Happy bidding and I hope you win!

Land Rover series 3 - 1972
Sellers Comments - I am selling my TAX exempt Land Rover series 3. It has a 2.8 TGV engine fitted, 5 speed LT77 gearbox, locking diffs Power steering, Galv Chassis and a webasco arctic heater with remote. Last year a new rear floor was fitted. The paint looks a little tired and I've been meaning to return it to its original Marine Blue. Mileage is pretty much unknown as the speedo has change twice in an effort to find the correct one for the vehicle. Excellent runner, which I use every day for work and pleasure. On purchase you will get any spares I might have. Any questions or viewings please contact through Ebay.

Land Rover Series 3 1972
1972 (Tax exempt) Series 3 Land Rover in very good condition. Approximately 110,000 miles on the clock. Fitted with new Exmoor trim tilt and Land Rover logo seats. The bodywork is in very good condition with minor battle scars as you would expect from a 40 year old vehicle. Bulkhead is clean and strong as is the chassis. The Landy is fitted with Parabolic springs and dampers and 235/85 tyres on white eight spokes, I also have a full set of 225/75 on original rims which will go with the car. The MOT runs until November but the car has only done about 200 miles in the last year hence the reason I am selling. Recently the car has been fitted with a full exhaust system and a pancake air filter (I have the original). This is a very decent old Land Rover but I am hankering after a project car (A30/35) so need to make space in the garage.

Land Rover 1972 series 3 turbo diesel. Drives well. Project
Sellers Comments - This land rover is an ideal project for someone who doesn't want too much to make this into a smart, original vehicle. It is in France very near to Dinan in Brittany. You can get there easily by ferry to St Malo, Dieppe, Cherbourg, Caen or by air to Dinard. I am a retired mechanical engineer and bought it with other things from the estate of some people moving back to the UK for health reasons. Its a lovely unspoilt vehicle and was used on the French roads since 2002 and was issued with French MOTs and insurance certificates during that time. I have all the documentation to prove this. I have a certificate of permanent export issued by the UK department of transport dated 28/2/2002 but the vehicle continued to be used on its UK plates and not registered on the French system I can't find proof of being on the road after 30/1/2014, I presume that is when the owner became ill! It drives very well and all major things seem to work OK. I fitted a new battery when I bought it about 1 year ago. I have done nothing to it as I am not an enthusiast but this would be a lovely project for anyone who is. The vehicle is complete, the tires are all good and it comes with a complete set of new, genuine, Land Rover mud flaps and front mats. The pictures show these in the back together with some side window channels and some metal flanges etc that I believe are for back seats or something similar, there are the original mesh guards for the front and rear light clusters. I will be in Dinan for the first week in August so anyone who wants to see it can then, if you fly out with Ryan air I could possible meet you at the airport. That's about all I can tell you. Its all very straight forward. I will only accept payment in cash or by Bank draft

Land Rover Series 3 1972 petrol 2.25 litre
Sellers Comments - Bought this vehicle in 2004 from an enthusiast, little used since on my paddocks. Originally diesel, not known when converted. Previous owner fitted a reconditioned 5 bearing engine with 36000 miles on the clock. I doubt it have done 500 miles in last 12 years. It is maddeningly a non-runner at present despite having a new electronic distributor fitted recently. I suspect the problem is in low tension or solenoid. NO MOT so will have to be towed or trailered away. Previous owner put on a half chassis, new foot wells, dumb irons ,outriggers, parabolic springs, brakes, large wheels (no spare), steering damper, freewheeling hubs and QT diff guards front and rear, Rebel steering guard, set of Series 3 Rocksliders/jackable sills, K & N air filter. I have fitted in the last few years a new Zenith carb, Bosch battery, exhaust, petrol pump, starter, Powermax Electronic distributor and coil, top half of driver's door. In the back it has 2 jerry can holders and a military tool box. Unfitted over drive. Tall lever jack included with sundry spare parts eg light stalk, Haynes Service and Repair and Restoration manuals included. Reasons for selling : so little use, moving house and age (mine)

Mileage 4271 by last mot in 2013, been undercover in farm barn since then and has only done roughly 150 miles in 5 years.
