Land Rover Series 2 109 LWB Pickup Ex-Military 1959 Unfinished Project

Sellers Comments -
For sale is my ex-military 1959 Land Rover Series 2 109 LWB Pickup unfinished project
I bought this vehicle in April this year and worked on it in my spare time. The plan was to finish it completely and either use it or sell it but unfortunately I am going to have to sell it as it is, because I just don't have the time to finish it.
This is an ideal winter project for a Land Rover enthusiast! A lot of the hard work is already done!
This is a solid investment as Land Rovers are going up in value!
Tax and MOT exempt
First registered on 12/07/1959 then registered for civilian use on 10/06/1999 with 4 former keepers since this date.
Sadly it does not have the original engine or gearbox. I have been told the engine is a Sherpa van 2.5 N/A Diesel (but it looks very similar to the Defender engine) with a Defender LT77 gearbox and LT230 transfer box.
V5C present and in my name, chassis number also present.
Bodywork is in good condition. It has had a full respray in matte Deep Bronze Green. There wasn't a lot wrong with the bodywork to start with, it just had a rough paint job and the previous owner had started to sand it down but the body was straight, which is unlikely on a Land Rover!
The wheels have been painted the same colour.
The tyres are in good condition but the near side rear tyre has damage/scoring to the inside.
Mileage reads 133,797 but I am not sure if that is genuine or not.
Sadly I have no paperwork or MOT documents with the vehicle but some information can be found on the DVLA website.
I am currently in the process of finding out the military history, if anyone knows how to find this info please let me know!
It has had many new parts fitted including battery, transfer box input gear and bearings, transfer box cover, front diff bearings, clutch release bearing, handbrake cable, handbrake drum parts, clutch plate, fan belt, rear brake shoes, 2 wheel cylinders on NSF, air filter and fresh oil in the engine, gearbox, transfer box and diffs.
The number plates are in the military style with 3 rows of 2 digits but I think it is supposed to be 2 rows of 3 digits to be completely legal.
The chassis seems to be in very good condition, it may have had a new chassis at some point in it's life.
As this was bought as a project there were various parts missing and I have managed to source most of the parts but there might be the odd bit missing still, I'm not too familiar with Land Rover's so I'm not 100% sure of what might still be missing.
What's left to do:
I have not yet managed to get the engine running so I cannot guarantee that the engine is good. It cranks over, but slowly. I attempted to bump start it by towing it but found out that the clutch is not working. I have bled it but it still won't disengage.
The brakes are spongy so there is a problem somewhere in the system.
The wiring needs some attention, the loom is not connected to any of the front lights and I am not sure if it has a live feed to the lights.
I'm not too mechanically minded but this might be an easy fix for the right person!
Those are the main bits that need doing, then it needs the odd part being purchased such as the sill covers and wiper.
A box of spare parts and nuts/bolts are included as well as the gearbox tunnel covers.
I have described this vehicle to the best of my knowledge.
This vehicle will need to be trailered away, it could be delivered locally at a cost.
Located at Ely, Cambridgeshire.
Sold as seen.
Cash on collection preferred but will also accept bank transfer.
Any questions or to arrange a viewing just ask.
Viewing is recommended to get a good idea of what work is left to do to finish the car.
£200 goodwill deposit required within 24 hours of the auction ending.
Happy bidding!

Land Rover Series 3 109 Stage 1 V8 3.5 Litre, UK model with Canvas top

Sellers Comments -
Registered New in the UK 7th November 1980
MOT until 23rd October 2017
35500 indicated miles (not warranted & may increase with use.
8 former keepers
Chassis Number LBCAV1AA****** (identifies it correctly as a 109 Stage 1 V8.
The V8 engine is also correct for this model as they can so often be changed.
I bought this Land Rover in April 2012 from a policeman in Milton Keynes and have had it for just over 5 years. Since owning it have had the suspension changed to Parabolic springs for a more comfortable ride (if that exists) and have kept it well maintained and serviced spending several thousand pounds on maintenance to make it turn key reliable.
It is completely original apart from the suspension & wheels.
The Gentleman previous to me bought it in October 2008
Stage 1 V8 history
This is one of the rarest production run Land Rovers and was produced at the end of the “Series 3” production as the “Stage 1” of the development of the Defender.
Land Rover were losing out on sales to Toyota Land cruiser which produced much more power and therefore they needed a bigger power plant so the distinctive flat front of  this model was created to accommodate the first factory fitted 3.5 litre V8 engine to a Land Rover.
The extra power and reliability created a lucrative export market for Land Rover but few were sold in the UK due to the fuel crisis in the 1980’s making running costs high.
If you aren’t familiar with them just google “Stage 1 V8” as there is loads of info about them & their history online.
Today according to the “How many left” website about 106 of these remain Taxed and road legal as follows:
109 V8 County SW                  3
109 V8 Hi-Cap                         6
109 V8 Regular                                   60        (Like this one)
109 V8 Station Wagon            37
Condition
This Land Rover is now nearly 37 years old and is not in restored condition but is in very good usable condition & kept garaged
The important bits including the Bulkhead are solid and the canvas top is in pretty good nick & could do with recolouring & waterproofing if you were fussy. All the lights & electrics work as they should.
The paintwork is good however this is a Land Rover so there are scratches and the odd ding here and there & the usual marks where the spare used to sit on the bonnet, but that is what they are all about so it isn’t a “Trailer Queen” showroom model but a great rare vehicle that you can be proud to use.
Of course please bear in mind there is no Air Conditioning, electric windows or even a radio so if you don’t know what you are really looking at here then please come & see it to make sure it is what you expect.
I also have a video here on youtube from 18 months ago where you can see a bit more:
If you have any questions or want to come & have a look please call me on 07775 626642.
Restored versions are now fetching ridiculous money so if you are in this business then this is a great clean vehicle, but it would be great if the purchaser just wanted to have some fun in a real iconic Land Rover.
I don’t really need to sell it but have a few to many cars and have my eye on something else unusual that would be nice.
Deposit of £500 required within 12 hours of auction end from the winning bidder. No Overseas – sorry.
I also reserve the right to end the auction early if necessary as it is advertised elsewhere.
Good luck.

Land Rover 109 V8 ex-MOD

Sellers Comments -
For sale is our 1973 Land Rover 109 series 3 V8 conversion, ex MOD – 67FM10. Main Features – Overdrive, parabolics, twin tanks, freewheeling hubs, interior, loads of spares

It’s in great condition throughout having not lived a hard life. After a military life with 34 Sig Regt (V)  from 74 to 97, the truck then became a demonstrator for a University engineering professor, before the previous owner bought it and undertook the engine conversion.  Throughout this entire period and for the last two years that we have owned it it has lived out of the rain either in a barn or garage.

The chassis is in good condition and appears undersealed with no rust apparent . The axles, springs and diff are all in good condition and work as they should. Worth mentioning that it has we believe Heavy Duty axles fitted ( we have I think the old ones as part of the spares pack).  She rides on parabolics really well – also have old spring packs.   Front hubs are free wheelers that work fine.

The gearbox is standard but with overdrive ( not sure which type) which improves it’s cruising ability no end. The gearbox is in great condition , the gears aren’t slack at all and the synchros are good for all ratios.

The engine is the trusty 3.5L rover V8 that the previous owner replaced the original engine with and still has good power whilst sounding great, the exhaust was new when the conversion happened two years ago.  A number of parts were fitted new including the radiator, alternator and engine mounts.

The exterior of the car is very straight although the paint has chipped off in a small number of areas exposing the primer and various military colours beneath. The canvas is in very good condition and has benefited from new cords to fasten it securely. The seats are early discovery seats in good condition and are very comfortable compared to the standard S3 offerings.  The previous owner added a couple of quirky features to the ignition sequence, you need to switch on the fuel pump and ignition separately before firing the starter motor with a button!   See photos.

There are twin fuel tanks although only the front tank is currently plumbed in, and the car has the standard MOD lighting switches in the centre of the dash.   Runs on 12v though.

There is a large load of spares that will come with the car, spare axles, a spare 2A gearbox, springs and parts to convert the car to a hardtop.

We’ve really enjoyed owning and running the car over the last couple of years but our land rover count is now up to three and one must give, so sadly it is the weekend car. In summary, the car has an excellent chassis, bodywork, gearbox and a great sounding V8 that runs well. It drives very well and makes you turn back to have another look when you’ve parked it.

Land Rover® Series 2 109 *CUTHBERTSON*

Sellers Comments - John Brown 4x4 Ltd of Thirsk, supplier of quality, vintage Land Rovers® to customers Worldwide, is delighted to present, on behalf of a third party, this very rare and superb CUTHBERTSON Land Rover®. Built and first registered on 8th September 1958, so a "proper" series 2, requiring no TAX or MOT, the original vehicle was despatched on 12th September 1958 to SMT Sales and Service Company Limited, Carlisle. The Cuthbertson conversion was carried out in 1958, and from there it has had an interesting history and has travelled around The World at various points, prior to returning to The UK in 2016. This is a matching numbers vehicle - chassis No 151900157 engine No 151901372. Both numbers are present on the vehicle where they should be. We are assuming that the ultra low mileage of 3982 to be correct, as who would do 100,000 road miles in a vehicle like this?! As you would imagine, mechanically it sounds and drives really well. Actually, the Cuthbertson factory still functions, and they hold records of it from 1958! That said, you could and can drive this on the road, it being road registered and road legal - in fact it is currently taxed too.

Landrover Series 3 109 200tdi EX MOD

Sellers Comments Here for sale is my Landrover which I am selling to raise funds for a house deposit. When I bought the Landrover it was fitted with a standard 2.25 petrol engine and was a soft top. Since then I have converted it to a 200tdi and fitted van sides. The Landrover has had lots of money spent on it and many hours work. During the time I have owned the vehicle, it has been fitted with the following: Discovery 200tdi engine with 300 manifold Timing belt and tensioner Water pump Lift pump Rocker box gasket Borg and beck clutch Engine mount rubbers Brake pipes and flexi hoses Wheel bearings all round Optima battery Electric fan Push button glow plugs Fairly overdrive Reconditioned gearbox and transfer box direct from MOD Rear cross member Rear galvanised step Towbar and electrics Defender plastic headlamps Full galvanised roof rack and ladder. Brand new van sides with windows and seals Techno trim defender seats Genuine Landrover cubby box Roof, rear load space and doors have been lined with carpet to reduce road noise and condensation. 5x BFG All Terrain (800miles old) 5x weller wheels - 4 of them have been powder coated in limestone cream Rear work lamp (not wired in yet) Twin fuel tanks The vehicle chassis is in excellent condition. The bulkhead has had a few repairs but is also very good. I have many spares including the original 109 wheels. The Landrover is running a straight through exhaust so is quite loud in the cab. The brakes would benefit from bleeding and the exhaust manifold gasket has a slight blow. The speedo cable has snapped. The paintwork is typical military rough. This is a very reliable vehicle and starts on the button. Viewing is highly recommended!

Landrover Series 3 -1973,109 Safari roof rare 2.6 straight six - Tax Exempt

Sellers Comments - Bought as project, due to new work commitments I sadly have no time, it is a rare 2.6 model which is what attracted me to it, engine is free but hasn't been started for a while now, from what I can see chassis is pretty sound except rear section needs some attention, Only has a drivers seat (non original) so interior also needed Will need trailer as currently not running.

Land Rover - Series 3 - 109 ex mod project

Sellers Comments - Land Rover series 3 109 2.2 petrol pickup ex mod 1979, registered 2000 when it was released from the mod, mot until September 2017. He has an excellent chassis but the body has some dents here and there. He's recentlyhad new door tops fitted and comes with a lpg tank in the back but would need recommissioning before use. only selling as a project as it has developed an electrical problem after replacing the indicator stork with a second hand one the brake light bulbs blow after about 30 minutes, I'll have another look and try and sort it before end of auction but if I can not fix the problem it will be sold with the fault. there is also an oil leak, looks like its at the back of the engine but still fine to drive. I am still using it daily just needs some tlc and you can drive it away. Pick up only Thanks for looking.

1972 LandRover Series 3 109 (tax exempt).

Sellers Comments - This is my lovely old 1972 109. It requires a gearbox, as it expired last week after several months of trouble free use and I simply don't have the time or motivation or space to work on another one just at present. I've used this vehicle every day for several months and it's about what you'd expect for a Series 109, The mileage wont be correct (it never is on these) and it requires a couple of welds (as pictured), but there is no terminal corrosion, the chassis itself is pretty good and the 4 cylinder petrol is about the smoothest I've ever owned and I've had many series Landrovers. There are the usual dents and knocks and custom additions, here and there, but nothing really noticeable. I believe this vehicle was in an earlier life, originally a 6 cylinder petrol The gentleman who owned it previously had spent over several previous years, a great deal of money on it, ie new rear cross member, headlights, new fuel tank, brake cylinders and shoes, replacement engine, swivel pin housings etc and much much more, in fact I have all the bills and they add up to an awful lot! Due to the gearbox problem, i'd advice the buyer to have a trailer winch, as I can't guarantee it will pull itself up under its own power, it may, but could totally give up the ghost when it's half way up! the problem does sound rather terminal! I'm always totally honest when selling, as I myself would not wish to be sold anything with horrible surprises in store! so please, if you've any questions feel free to email me or phone me on 01946 693929. Please remember that this is basically a 1948 designed 44 year old ladder chassis truck, so subsequently drives like one, It's noisy, zero to 60 is via a calendar, it's rather uncomfortable and with the turning circle of the Exon Valsez, so if you're not used to them, you'll be in for a nasty shock! but after saying all that, I still love 'em! This vehicle is advertised elsewhere so I do reserve the right to end this auction at any time. Happy bidding and I hope you win!

1981 LAND ROVER 109 COUNTY STATION WAGON - GALVANISED CHASSIS

Sellers Comments - I've owned the truck for nine years, but emigrated to Australia four years ago (where I have another LR) and it has sat in my parent's garden since then.

I used the car in the UK for a few years and drove from Cardiff to London on a weekly basis without issue until the gearbox packed up.

Shortly after this I fitted a spare gearbox (appears to work fine but leaks from the sump) and started to sort out the interior as the side frames had rusted away. The bulkhead is toast and probably not worth repairing, but there are new side frames fitted (backordered from Land Rover Thames Ditton) and all the doors & door tops are the extremely rare early 110 two-piece type.

Before I bought the vehicle it was owned by a wildlife painter (David Shepherd) who had the car rebuilt onto a Richards galvanised chassis along with all the associated bushes, etc and fitted a gas kit.

The car comes with all the parts needed to put it back together, along with the usual boxes of new parts that I never got around to fitting. Most of the aluminium panels are unpainted as I was going to respray in limestone and the rear seats will need holes re-drilling to refit as the panel there was corroded (and replaced).

Some more info below on what's been replaced and what it has:

- galvanised chassis
- engine is an army-reconditioned (green) 5-bearing 2.25 petrol
- LPG kit, which has always worked perfectly
- early 110 two piece aluminium sliding door tops
- brownchurch roof rack
- new side frames & brackets
- powdercoated seat frames, grab rail, etc.
- x6 county (tweed pattern) seats
- x5 wolf wheels with decent mud plugger tyres
- salisbury rear axle
- new exhaust
- vinyl county trim

Some stuff I know will definitely need repairing before it's usable:
- engine doesn't run as the starter just clicks - could be the battery or starter solenoid as the engine turns over fine with the starting handle.
- bulkhead is rotten in the footwells, door posts, top rail, etc...
- no petrol tank - it was rusty (MOT failure), so I removed it as the car ran perfectly on gas.
- clutch master cylinder as clutch pedal is on the floor
- nearside front wheel bearing

Other stuff:
- the door bottoms are a little crusty in the bottom corners - I'd removed the door skins to fix these, so I've just put these back on temporary for now
- the safari roof is in fairly good condition except for an aerial hole above the rear view mirror and a bit of corrosion in the rear
- the bonnet frame is a bit crusty, but still seems rigid enough
- both propshafts need refitting - never got around to it after the gearbox was replaced.

The car is located in Wraysbury and will need to be taken on a trailer as it's not running. Cash on collection please, within seven days of end of auction.

Land Rover® Series 3 109 Pickup - Ex-Military

Sellers Comments - Land Rover is a restoration project not a weekends work !
Unmolested 1973 tax exempt Land Rover Series 3 109 pick up, 2.6 six cylinder petrol. Ex military, built 1973, registered 1985 when left the army.
Start price £250 is what I have been offered for the wheels alone! For spares or repair- chassis is quite rusty and will need some replacement or welding for an MOT I've included pictures so you can see the underside / condition. The bodywork is very straight and original.
Was rescued from a farm where it had been standing for the last 15 years, when it was parked up and left by the owners son, I don't believe there was anything wrong with it, he just went abroad and did not return. I believe it is ex-military going by the amount of underseal the chassis and under body has on it, it was also not first registered until 1985, but, is declared manufactured in 1973, I have the new style V5 in my name.
The chassis has rust broken in front of the osr spring mount and the spring mount has detached, I haven't been all over the chassis but include pictures its not nice except for the rear x-member funnily enough ! I think it must have been replaced shortly before it was parked up.
There is a great set of 7.50-16 Deestone extra grip tyres fitted on the wheels which have near new tread on them.
I have put jump leads on it but the starter just clicks and doesn't engage, but the engine is free and turns over by hand.
The brakes were seized but have freed off when it was winched it up onto a trailer, both clutch and brake pedals are locked solid but I will try to free them if I have a chance. the brakes will obviously need attention and the fluid is low in the master cylinder so i guess a brake pipe or cylinder has gone.
The bodywork is extremely straight and tidy for a land rover of its age. under its non military camo paint job ! the paint has worn through to the ally in places and pretty much gone completely on the ns front wing, I think this was replaced and not etch primed. The top strip of the tailgate is rusty where it was laying in the back upside down, the door tops are rotten but the bottoms aren't bad. the bulkhead is very good, I've taken pictures to show this at the top but there is surface rust in the footwells and some rot starting above the pedals.

1966 Land Rover Series 2a 109

2.25 petrol, ex-military, tax exempt.
There are 29,400 miles on the clock, the gearchange is very precise and the 4x4 system works as it should.
I’ve owned this Land Rover for 6 years, and have recently refurbished the running gear and paintwork.
The previous owner intended to fit a 200 Tdi engine at some point, so they fitted the front panels from a Defender to give extra space for the installation. The vehicle also has a hardtop, one-piece screen and seats from a Defender, with inertia reel seatbelts on the two outer seats (lap belt on the centre seat). The rear door is also from a Defender & has a rear screen demister element (not wired in).
I’ve recently replaced the clutch slave cylinder and all the wheel cylinders and brake shoes, and fitted new parabolic leaf springs to the rear. The front leaf springs are in good condition. It also has a new water pump and engine service items (points & condenser and spark plugs). It is fitted with an electric fan instead of the standard viscous fan.
All the electrics work, with the exception of the panel back-light. The door tops are in good condition, although the sliding window rail needs replacing on the passenger side. The chassis and bulkhead are solid.
It passed its MOT in mid-March with just one advisory (the traditional Land Rover ‘oil leak’, which was a weep from the sump plug). I’ve covered a little over 100 miles since then without any trouble.
I’ll put a fresh MOT on the vehicle for the new owner.
The Land Rover is in Shipley, West Yorkshire, and can be viewed at any time.
