SWB Land rover Tax & MOT exempt - 1962

Sellers Comments -
1962 SWB Land Rover (TAX & MOT exempt) galvanized chassis 12 years ago and still looks good, pics to prove this also

(when they done the chassis they put the series 3 front on) - I don't know why....

Bottom of door hinges will need doing (I've got a replacement part for one side) - I will attach more pics in comments - but these not essential now the mot is exempt.

paintwork isn't great and could do with a sand and spray

For the 12 years, she lived in Scotland and only done approx 100 miles a year mot's to prove this (it lived at a holiday cottage and was used to take dogs to beach)

New alternator, fuel pump, points, cap, leads, solenoid, plugs - runs a dream :))

was using it as my daily car but starter motor is just spinning at the moment, so not starting, I will try and take it off and clean it if I get time - or I'm sure the AA will help get it started.

Had the roof off in the summer - no problems there & it quite happily sits at 50mph and stops nicely.

I have it advertised locally so may end the auction early.

Sellers Comments - Brief details; Green, 1962 2a 109" with full length roof, windows and rear door. The Good: L594 Glass indicators and side lights. AVM Freewheeling hubs Banjo Steering wheel Bulkhead pretty solid with the exception of the passenger footwell (new repair panel supplied with vehicle) Nearly new full length Brownchurch style galvanised roof rack and ladder. Spare wheel swing away. Sun visor Nice 3 number 3 letter plate but unfortunately not transferable but I'm pretty sure it is the original reg. The not so good; Failed last MOT on, Rear position lamp(s) not working (1.1.A.3b) Offside Front Direction indicator not working (1.4.A.2c) Offside Inner Ball joint dust cover excessively deteriorated so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (2.2.C.1c) Offside Outer Ball joint dust cover excessively deteriorated so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (2.2.C.1c) Nearside Front Vehicle structure has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings (6.1.B.2) Nearside Vehicle structure has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings (6.1.B.2) It's been stood since and I've not tried to start it (doesn't currently have a battery) but the engine turns by hand (will try to start it next week), clutch seems to be seized, brakes seem to work. Vehicle is in North Essex and will obviously need transporting away. I will try to add more photos later but I'd prefer if you came for a look. Once purchased needs removing within 7 days unless by prior agreement.

Land Rover Series 3 - 1962

Sellers Comments -
XAS 684
Looking for a piece of Land Rover motoring heritage?
For sale - 109” LWB truck cab Land Rover Series 3.  Registered in 1962, so no road tax to pay.
Ideal for a ready to use day to day runabout, with lots of load space for hauling stuff around, fun off roading (Series 3 Owners Club days out highly recommended) or as a sound base for a project with solid chassis and sound engine and  fully overhauled gearbox/clutch.
2 and a quarter 4 cylinder petrol engine.  Ex military In military camouflage, in places where the paint is chipped you can see blue paint, maybe this was a UN vehicle, possibly in Cyprus as sand was found on refurbishing the outriggers.
Refurbished by previous owner (retired Marine engineer) – chassis overhaul with new back chassis and outriggers. New gearbox and clutch, diesel engine changed to petrol.  Last 3 photos are of his work.
I have owned it from 8/11, true mileage unknown, mileage on purchase 42,481.  Mileage now 45,464. Dry stored in a barn the last 6 years, but as ever on Landys it’s the quality of chassis, gearbox, transmission that matters, and these are all sound.
MOT’d May 2018, no advisories.     Historic vehicle so no tax to pay.
Overall condition – as you’d expect for its age.  A few dings and dents on the bodywork.  A few chips on the paintwork.  Starts on the button every time.  Doesn’t use oil.  It’s slow and steady, it is a Landy after all!
Fairey overdrive fitted  Free wheeling hubs  New battery 5/17.
New exhaust 10/16   New aluminium strip truck space runners fitted.
New water pump 1/16   Hand throttle
Inertia reel seat belts fitted for driver and passenger.  Seat cushions are included for the central seat but no seat belt fitted, a lap static belt could be fitted.
Engine not converted for unleaded so takes the classic car fuel additive.
Plastic runners fitted for door and rear cab sliding windows
Spare wheel mount fitted to rear of cab, so improving driver visibility
The previous owner fitted softer bushes to the springs, giving a gentler ride, I don’t have the exact specification for these.
Steering wheel lock  Good tread on tyres
Tow hitch fitted.  Towing light socket fitted in rear locker by tailgate.
Dashboard controls reflect original engine was a diesel  Matching camo paint included.
Note.  Normally, to engage low ratio/4 wheel drive, you pull back the red Hi/lo transfer gear lever, the yellow 4 wheel drive lever drops and away you go.   Doing this on this vehicle, after a few yards the yellow lever pops forward, dropping out of gear.  The previous owner couldn’t find the fault but we found that if the yellow lever is held down as the red lever is pulled back, then the vehicle will stay in 4 wheel  drive all day long.  I have worked in mud and pulled cars out of snow drifts in 4WD with no problem.  I have a field where you can wet down a skid patch and test the 4WD.
Fuel gauge does not work.  I dip the tank (it’s the under-the-drivers-seat military sort) and keep a mileage/fuel record in the vehicle.

Sellers Comments- Here is my Military Series 2 Landrover I bought it last year (2015) with the intention of making it look like a real military classic, soft top etc. Its been dry stored since I bought it in my Works unit, Put it through an MOT in February , failed on wiper blade , screenwash top up and small weld in the drivers foot well . Total cost inc MOT £101.36 Tax Exempt. Very low insurance £55 Listed the mileage but not sure how accurate it is Comes with two extra front Wings and a rare toast rack grill (not Fitted) Petrol, starts and runs well Could be used as it is or a great restoration project. Seen fully restored at £17,000!!! You will not lose money on this classic, prices are starting to get silly especially this age and model. Some of the body repairs are not pretty but easily sorted, I've just not got the time and I'm getting rid of my unit DESCRIPTION When I bought the Landie reads Rare Rover 8 Forward Controller ,quite an early one the chassis number dates it to 1962 , ID Plate reads TRUCK F F R 1/4 TON 4x4 ROVER 8 On the V5 the vehicle states 1st registration 11.6.1970 which I presume to be when it was put on the road after Military use. Note because I was putting a soft top on the truck I sold the Cat flap door, (A mistake with hindsight) Although would look great with a canvas on it. This is a true historic vehicle , Ive tried to be as honest as I can, feel free to phone me or come and see the truck , its based in Lincoln LN2 Loads of old Bills MOT's etc ..

Landrover Series 2 1962 petrol -

Sellers Comments - this landrover series 2 used to belong to my local country garage,it has been stood for about two years, chassis is very good,no welding needed, bulkhead very good, all lights work,as do indecators/horn/wippers/washer pump. there is nothing missing off this landrover, and it is very original. the back tub inside is very good,no bad dents . brakes are all working, starts and drives. you could leave this landrover as it is, would not take much at all for a mot, to restore this landrover would be very easy, they dont come any better. body panels have a few dents, seats are not very good.starting handle behind seats.free wheeling hubs. it could do with some time just giving chassis a good wire brush off,and i lick of paint. come and see for yourself, call robert on 07760472594 to view. it is over 50 years old, tax exempt, advertised elsewhere,so can remove.
