Landrover Series 3 1973 tax exempt swb 88 safari station wagon petrol

Sellers Comments Before the end of the week this landrover will have a full 12 months m.o.t. I took it today for its first m.o.t for some years. it only failed on some minor points which I have now done.first was handbrake low efficiency, small bit of welding by bump stop on front o/s, tidy up some previous welding on rear chassis [ piece about 4 inch long] and secure the brake pipes on rear axle. we bought this as a project and have fitted new rear shocks; new brake cylinders on rear;new brake shoes all round; new brake master cylinder; new fuel pump; new washer motor and wiper blades; wiper stop switch and speedo cable. the chassis has a few patches here and there but all seems strong. the bulkhead also has been patched in footwells but again seems good and strong. its quite tidy inside the full roof lining is in good clean condition there are no seats in the rear and the front seats are not the best- one rip on drivers back rest and seams come apart on other seats but are still useable. it has full safari roof with air vents which all open ok. the paintwork is very good but could do with a good polish then it would look very good.there is a little ripple on the n/s/r panel but not very noticable but then it is 44 years old so wont be a show piece.it drives very well all gears including low box all work as they should. it drives very well and pulls along well at low revs. the tyres are ok they are 285x16 so are very wide but dont catch on any springs or body work. all in all it is a nice usable landrover which looked after should give good service for years to come.Tax exempt. Please disregard my lack of feedback as in the past when I have sold things I used my wifes ebay account. viewing welcome cash on collection.

1973 LAND ROVER Series 3 in original condition

Sellers Comments - We bought this beautiful original landrover series 3 in unrestored condition because it was so beautifully looked after mechanically, original and lovely to drive We looked at some which had had all the body finish/work done but our preference was to find a gem we could turn into our own little project. This car wasn't actually for sale, I approached the owner and convinced him to let us take good care of it if he sold to us. We used this car regularly for about 6 months (when I bought it the owner drove the 70 or so miles to deliver it to me so it shows the condition it's in ). One house move and a young baby later we acknowledge we aren't going to give this car the fun and airing it deserves! So very reluctantly we have decided to sell. My husband has taken some convincing that we will not get around to the project so to set expectations about offers..! We know quite a bit about the vehicles history. It was purchased by a farming family near Salisbury and used on the farm /equestrian purposes. It changed hands locally, and the chap we ended up purchasing it from was an archaeologist who had used it as intended, all off road works mostly on Salisbury plain and it has seen some wonderful experiences The entire car is original, no replacement panels or interior. It's a 2.3l petrol, Fairey overdrive, cab/ pick up with the roof cover as seen in picture. 100k plus miles. Tax exempt. I am by no means an expert , so please do email with questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Colour is a light blue/grey (original colour would have been blue, the seat belts are dark blue in colour ). It has been a working vehicle and has all the associated wear and tear as such, internally and externally. I took advice from one of the top landrover restoration companies (we had intended to use them for our project) and they described the car as honest. There were no advisory notes on the last MOT and based on lots of questions can confirm we checked the bulkhead (where windscreen meets is I understand the common weak spot) and there were no issues or visible rust. We have had this car off the road for over 2 years but have started a few times, and always starts perfectly for age of vehicle. It is in need of MOT and we will discuss with interested buyers. The gearbox is really easy and well looked after, it's easy to drive ( particularly compared to some we test drove ). There are lots of honest photos available and you would be welcome to come and look at it. prefer experienced buyers only, given nature of the vehicle, interested parties only no offers. We are a private seller and also unable to offer part exchange for obvious reasons. After a few enquiries I have attached further pictures. As you can see this is barn stored and ideally I would have washed etc before the photos but in terms if timing etc. You'll see that it's in genuine condition. I'm no expert but the exhaust looks new, was prior to our purchase. Everything else is all original, all bodywork etc. I should also have said that I have supporting paperwork for history. Please let me know if you have any other questions and I'll do my best to answer! Thank you for your interest , genuine ebayer please check out my feedback. We are located just outside of stockbridge in Hampshire

For Sale - 1973 Tax Exempt Series 3 Land Rover Lightweight, 2.5 Diesel conversion, long mot Swap/px possible, especially for 90 or 110

Sellers Comments - For sale is my 1973 ex-military Land Rover Lightweight (otherwise known as an air portable). This is a series 3 model, and has 10 months MOT, with only one advisory on the last MOT. It has recently had the brakes rebuilt, and has a relatively new hood. The bulkhead is ok, but the upper right could do with a repair panel. The rear cross member is patched but solid. Both doors are ok. The previous owner fitted a 2.5NA diesel from a 110, so it pulls very well. It has deluxe seats (new). Overall it could do with some TLC, but it runs and drives well. I've been out and about today without the roof on. Occasionally the gearbox will kick out of fourth when you lift off the throttle. You could replace the gearbox, or just keep your hand on the gear lever when you lift off the throttle in fourth.... I'm only selling as I didn't realise when I bought it a few weeks ago that ex military vehicle don't have seatbelts. So I'm looking for a 90 or 110 so I can take my little lad out with me. If you have one of a similar value and want a deal... I currently only have the green slip, but full receipt will be given. Also have dating certificate etc. to prove tax exempt status.

1973 LAND ROVER SERIES 3, 200 Tdi ENGINE, TAX EXEMPT Great steering and brakes, powerful with 30 mpg economy

RESTORED 2006. - MOT until February 2016.

78,600 miles showing on the odometer.

200 Tdi ENGINE checked over and fitted with new cambelt.  Professionally installed into the vehicle in 2013 complete with turbocharger, intercooler, Glencoyne anti-vibration engine mounts plus an electric cooling fan.

NEW GEARBOX overhauled in 2014 at a cost of over £1100 by the recognised specialists, Midland Transmissions, to handle the extra power of the 200 Tdi.  All gears, four wheel drive and high and low ranges work as they should. Clutch overhauled with new release bearing.

This Land Rover is comfortable and quiet, and drives extremely well. It has VERY GOOD STEERING which is not heavy and does not wander, due to the correct original size 5 inch wheels being fitted with NEW AVON RANGER ALL-TERRAIN TYRES in 2015.

The BRAKES pull up strongly and in a straight line.

Structurally very sound with good bodywork, thanks to a photographic  RESTORATION in 2006.  Waxoyled and well-maintained since.  Original unmolested appearance, very attractive with black paintwork as an alternative to the usual colours.   Solid chassis, bulkhead, crossmember and floors. The bodywork is not in concours condition and has a few minor blemishes – what old Land Rover hasn’t? – but nothing at all serious.

Great cab INTERIOR with excellent deluxe front seats, inertia reel seat belts and stereo AM/FM radio cassette (that’s the white box on the dashboard in the pictures). The fuel and temperature gauges have recently stopped working (it has been suggested that this is due to the instrument resistor needing replacement, but I haven’t had time to investigate).  The nearside door mirror is cracked but serviceable & the nearside windscreen has a small chip,  but neither affect passing the MOT.

Full expensive Wright Off-Road mats and sound insulation (as used by the British Army) installed on the bulkhead, floors and seatbox (see www.wrightoffroad.com) plus an additional heavy rubber acoustic insulation mat on the rear floor.

Halogen headlamp conversion.

Replacement heater.

Electronic flasher unit.

Towbar (of course!).

Swing-away rear spare wheel carrier with cantilever action which swings automatically with the back door as it is opened.

The large and detailed HISTORY FILE includes the photographic record of the restoration, invoices for repairs and maintenance, service records and a Workshop Manual on CD.

HERITAGE CERTIFICATE from British Motor Industry Heritage Trust confirming the date of manufacture.

Regretful sale due to change of circumstances.  My family will be sad to see it go, especially my wife who loves driving it (unlike many Landy wives, which says a lot for the useability of this particular example).

This isn’t the cheapest Land Rover for sale, but it is far from being the most expensive either.  However, it is probably one of the most driveable as a result of having been fully sorted during regular use after the restoration and treated to the sensible upgrades detailed above. 1973 LAND ROVER 88" PICK UP - 4 CYL BLACK/SILVER - No Reserve - Location Worcester

Land Rover 88"pickup 4 cylinder heavy oil with galvanized detachable back This is a great example of a classic Land Rover pick up.

Sellers Comments

Good points:

The garage remarked on what good condition the chassis was in, and that alone can fetch several hundred pounds!

At the end of the day, it won't take much cash to get this old girl on the road.

The body work is in very good condition for the age and has always started and been reliable.

Very distinctive looking.
Bad points:

There isn't any Tax or MOT on the vehicle, and we did put her through an MOT last week, and she failed on the following:

1. Direction indicators flashing less than 60 times per minute

2. Parking brake has no reserve travel

3. Steering locking device insecure

4. Near side rear brake drum contaminated by oil

5. Offside rear tyre has cut in excess of requirements

So, nothing hideously major and nothing really unexpected due to length of time off the road.

There were also a couple of advisories, which included that the tyres would need replacing at some point.
