Land Rover Series IIA 1966 88"

Sellers Comments Tax Exempt 2.5 Diesel V5 Present 11 previous owners MOT until 1st November 2017 No advisories It is road worthy and I very occasionally used, the last 3 years it has been a donkey to carry stuff around when I needed it to. It is running a 1996 Transit DI Engine and gearbox which has just had cam belt, water pump and filters changed. Rear wheel drive only. Just had a recon injector pump cost costing £600 It has a good chassis and has been a very reliable vehicle. Tyres are less than a year old Has had repairs but as you can see in the pictures is showing its age on the door pillars and the bulk head, I have had plates welded in and filled Needs handbrake hub and shoes Its a great truck but I do not have the time to restore it and no longer have the need or space for it. Just bear in mind that it is 50 years old so the fuel guage and speedo don't work , I just wait for the light to flash up on the dashboard to tell me I need fuel. Steering wanders , always has. As with all Land Rovers it marks its territory. Had a recent paint job, looks better in the photos than close up. Sensible offers only, no tyre kickers Advertised elsewhere so may end early.

1971 Series IIa Petrol / LPG SWB Hard top Land Rover - For Sale £3750

Sellers Comments - A 1971 late model SWB Series IIa Land Rover with Maltese Cross front panel and headlights in the wings. Apart from the LPG conversion with certification from an UKLPG certificated installer, twin LPG tanks mounted on wheel arches in the rear tub, the vehicle is in original and unmolested condition. No checker plate, no sun roofs cut into the hard top roof, or CB aerials. The vehicle is just as it should be even down to having it's original starting handle clipped behind the front seats. The vehicle has been very well maintained and has clearly had good money spent on it over the years. It has even had a professional respray. A previous owner was a Doctor. The odometer reads 31,000 miles and that could possibly be genuine as previous MOTs show it has covered less than 5,000 miles in the previous ten years. It's relative lack of use hid a problem that it had. No oil in the front axle casing. I bought it last year in Walton on Thames and drove it back home to the Wirral. I got as far as near Banbury on the M40 when the front axle locked up ,their was an enormous crash, and the front differential disintegrated. It clearly had not been a problem to anybody driving it before me as they had not driven it far enough for it to be an issue. I managed to nurse it home with difficulty as did not have the tools to hand to remove the front prop shaft. Because I had driven it that way I did not want to just change the diff as little bits of metal could have worked their way into other parts of the axle casing. I decided the thing to do was to completely rebuild the axle, that is just to keep the axle casing and to replace everything else. I sourced a replacement Series IIa front axle which came from an abandoned restoration project . The axle had been rebuilt with new swivels etc but never fitted to the vehicle. I intended for the sake of originality to rebuild the original axle with the bits from the other rather than to just swap the axles which would have been much easier. Unfortunately I then through no fault of my own lost my storage and place to work on it so I have been using it with the front prop shaft removed as a two wheel drive vehicle. It works very well that way and for general road driving works better that way than it would with the front prop shaft in place. It passed an MOT that way too. I have not been well recently and have decide to pass it on to someone else. The replacement front axle with new swivels will be supplied with the vehicle and the the new owner could rebuild the axle as I intended or could just swap the axles which would not take more than a couple of hours. The horse box is not included in the sale but the galvanised roof rack is if the purchaser would like it. I insist on any prospective purchaser coming to see and test the vehicle for themselves. Their is no warranty and no returns. Payment by cash on collection please. Please telephone to make an appointment to view. 07715364789.

1963 109" Series IIA Land Rover

Sellers Comments - I'm moving house end January and very reluctantly have to sell my faithful 1963 LWB IIA. Fitted with a disco 200di (no turbo) used daily and has been very reliable. MOT till May 22nd 2016. Good tilt, new tyres. Have owned her for just over 5 years and during that time have fitted new front springs, starter motor and had the brakes overhauled. Previous owner (local to me) advised that a new chassis and new wiring had been fitted. This is NOT a restored poser, it is a working Landy with patina to match!! Probably could do with tidying up I guess or restored if you're that way inclined. Front prop shaft UJ needs to be replaced (I have a new one ready to fit and might find the time do it), and the speedo stopped working last week......either the cable or speedo drive I suspect. Chassis is good, bulkhead is not - corrosion - see pictures Inspection before buying recommended Situated in the Scottish Borders near Newcastleton Advertised elsewhere

Landrover series 2a swb diesel Landrover series 11a swb diesel soft top

Seller Comments - Series 11a, swb, diesel, soft top, lovely landrover, one of the best i have driven, i would drive this vehicle from Cornwall to Scotland,if i had a week!!! its totaly reliable in the time i have owned it, been using it for most of the summer and never let me down, As you can see its handpainted, its ok from 20 foot! but i have tested a little rubbing down on the bonnet and found it could be improved with a little work, but it looks ok to me as is. Just replaced all the drums and brake linings, its had a new rad, new windscreen, various other bits and pieces just to make sure its ok really. I do have the door tops to go with the truck, one is brand new, never fitted, the other original but good, both need painting, and i will give the new owner a tin of paint, i do have a truck cab to go with this truck, so if you didnt want the soft top i could put truck cab on and come to an arangement in your favour, again the truck cab needs a coat of paint,(this is why i hand painted it) . The bulk head is excellent, the chassis has been patched, but nicely done, the soft top has a couple of very small tears, new seats also, this is an old LR, 50 years old, so it has bumps etc front bumper a little bent also, The auction will run its course, no buy it now,

LAND ROVER SERIES 2a (IIa) 1965 FULLY RESTORED 88" 2.25 DIESEL STUNNING!

Land Rover Series 2a - 1965 - 88” - 2.25 original diesel

  • Tax free and classic car insurance (£65 per year)
  • Fully restored – stunning example with extensive history
  • £000’a spent with many news parts
  • One year’s MOT with no advisories + vehicle tax renewed in January

Here for sale is my stunning restored 1965 Land Rover Series 2a 88”. This stunning original car has been lovely restored over the last three years and is in fantastic useable condition. I have been careful not to lose the originality of the car and it still has a lovely feel and patina.

It has the original 2.25 three bearing crank Diesel engine with overdrive making it a very useable and practical vehicle returning a very respectable 30 mpg. This is your chance to own a rare and appreciating classic, this lovely example has had a very labour and cash extensive restoration. To maintain its originality, this vehicle has been thoughtfully and carefully restored with lots of time and money spent.

Previous history

This lovely car has had only four previous owners. The vehicle comes with a comprehensive history, original hand books and manuals etc. Including a diary hand/ book listing works and services carried out from November 1976 to present day. From 1967 to 2007 the vehicle was owned by two brothers, both mechanics from Bulwell in Nottingham UK. During this time the vehicle wanted for nothing explaining why, when it was bought unrestored by a previous owner in 07 the vehicle was in fantastic condition for its age, the vehicle was then taken to the Channel Islands and subsequently returned again where it was used in London.

The previous owner then purchased the vehicle in 2012 and spent a vast amount of money restoring it further. I purchased the vehicle last year and have subsequently carried out a full respray on the car externally with much of the internal areas shot blasted and resprayed, added a new stick set and tilt and also had the bottom of the car fully undersealed and wax oiled. My intention was to keep the Landy as a second car as it is pretty much free motoring now, however I am very reluctantly selling the car now as I am a property developer and I have several projects on so need to liquidate funds.

Chassis and bodywork

The Chassis is the original Series 2a chassis which is in excellent solid condition no welding or corrosion, this is extremely rare to find as many restored Landy’s have replacement chassis which in my opinion makes them non original. The Bulkhead has been completely restored. Body panels all removed. Bulkhead sandblasted new panels plates, seam sealed etc. Hopefully you can see from the photographs.

At the end of last year the car was fully resprayed in the correct and original deep bronze green and looks absolutely stunning. The panels are all straight and true with no significant dings or damage, the external galvanised parts looks excellent and many of the original items have been regalvanised. All five steel wheels have been fully shot blasted and resprayed and look great.

Internally the rear cab has also been shot blasted and resprayed and she also has new floor panels which have had the same treatment. Both the doors have been resprayed internally. The rear tailgate was sourced from an original Series 2a and has been fully sprayed inside and out.

She also has a new windscreen and has original chrome surround and glass indicators and side light lenses which are very rare.

The engine and running gear

The Engine is the original diesel 2.225cc in excellent condition and starts on the key first time in all weathers. It maintains perfect oil pressure and temperature at all times. According to the history the engine was overhauled by rover about 40.000 miles ago.

The engine block and top end was stripped and inspected last year checking bores pistons - everything measured out just fine; all well within the tolerances; the top end was overhauled and rebuilt with new head gasket. Plenty of years left in the old girl, she is totally reliable and dependable. I would say she achieves around 30 mpg which is fantastic for a car of this age and type.

Running gear all overhauled lots of work and money spent. Has very rare selectro, heavy duty free wheeling hubs.

Gear box, suspension, electrics and other parts

Gear Box has been overhauled new clutch etc. the gearbox is lovely and quiet all gears select fine; the overdrive is superb and very quiet.

Electrics - The vehicle has had a complete re-wire, new wiring loom etc.

Brakes - The brakes have been completely overhauled with new parts all round.

Suspension - She sits on new parabolic springs and matching shocks all around.

Five new army style off road tyres.

Internal instruments and rear cab

The interior is excellent and the car benefits from new seats in the front and rear plus rare link mats in both front and rear.

The car has an original Smiths heater which actually throws out quite a lot of heat and also original wiper motors for both driver’s and passenger’s side. All the instruments work exactly how they should and are in excellent condition.

The car also benefits from original overdrive which makes it a totally useable vehicle for modern condition on any type of road. On a motorway or dual carriageway you can easily and comfortably achieve 60 mph without too much fuss, without the overdrive the car would be almost impossible to use on normal roads (without upsetting a lot of people).

She also is remarkably fuel efficient and returns on average around 30 mpg making this the most useable of classic cars.

The Landy also benefits from a new galvanised hoop set and full hood from Exmoor trim finished in lovely sand colour.

Recent services

In 2013 there have been full services carried out all fluids oils were drained and replaced, the gearbox and rear diff had slick 50 added, the breaks have also been cleaned and set up etc.

Also last year the car has had another fluid check and service with an additional fluid check carried out in February of this year.

The Landy has just been in for an MOT and has a full MOT with no advisories, the vehicle tax was renewed in January for a year and is obviously tax free.

To summarise, I'm sure you'll agree this is a lovely example of this classic Landover; it is a genuine reluctant sale. If you are unable to view the vehicle I'm happy to send further detailed photographs, should you require any further information please let me know? Viewings are welcome and recommended.

This is your chance to purchase a fully restored classic that will provide you years of trouble free motoring and a minimal cost. With the Defender now being discontinued and prices of all Land Rovers rocketing up in recent years this has to be a sound investment and far more entertaining than leaving your money in the bank.

The car can be viewed with prior arrangement in the Haywards Heath area (RH16) - please feel free to contact me to arrange a viewing or ask any further questions.
