Sellers Comments - Land Rover Series 3 - Barn Find Restoration Project Welcome to my auction of a 1978 Land Rover Series 3. This vehicle has been off the road for a few years. I have had the engine running and sounds OK. Has Webber carb fitted. The clutch is stuck and bulkhead is in poor condition as are springs. shockers and exhaust. Chassis is not bad and has had new rear cross-member and out riggers at some time. Wheels and tyres are reasonable, has freewheeling hubs. Rear door is in good condition. On SORN and V5 present. Will need trailer to take away and can assist with loading.

Series 3 Land Rover - 1979

Sellers Comments - For sale is my series Land Rover. 2.25 petrol engine with zenith carb and just had a service. Points plugs etc. the engine starts and runs very well. New exhaust and steering/tracking rods. It's had work done on the electrics and everything works as it should. It has new seats in the rear with an oak floor. New door tops recently. The chassis is solid and has had welding done by the previous owner. The bulkhead is quite solid too. Rear cross member is solid. But come and see for yourself. Brakes work well as they have had some work. No major oil leaks. Tread on tyres are good. I'll include my cigarette and USB charger for sat Nav and phones etc. Mot until April next year. The inside is tidy too. It's just done a 400 mile round trip with no problems at all. Comes with 1 key and doesn't have any service history but does has recent receipts from work I have had done. I have a few spare parts that will be included. Seals and gaskets etc. Haynes manuals included.

Land Rover lightweight,date built 1st Feb 1979

Sellers Comments - Here we have my Land Rover lightweight,date built 1st Feb 1979,date of dispatch,10th Feb 1979,Destination (dealer) Central Army Vehicle Depot,Hilton (for C.A.V.D.,Ashchurch) Label (line) 3/335. She is a 12v 2.25 petrol with 36k reading on the clock which I was told is genuine,I found this lightweight in a barn in June,she has been off the road since 2007 until I bought her,after some tinkering and fitting new plugs,coil,points,leads,distributer cap and arm and drained the old petrol and filling with fresh fuel she fired up.

I drove her 10miles home with no issues,I have had to clean an free the brakes and adjust the wheel bearings with some added fresh grease along with a rub down and fresh paint with NATO green and Matt black,this was done via a roller but has come up very well and is tough and durable paint.

I put her in for mot in August and all she needed was the brake light switch adjusted again and the sidelight sorting,the only advisory was the windscreen marked,although she should of had two advisorys due to the left hand footwell needing repair which I haven't been able to do due to recent hand injury,otherwise I would repair with ease as I'm a welder/mechanic by trade,the chassis is perfect and not a patch work qualt,she has had a new rear quarter chassis in the past.

Onto the bulkhead now and the prone top panel is again perfect along with the rest of the bulkhead,the only part being the footwell needing repair but that's the only welding repair needed.

Fitted with a good Fairey Overdrive and Free wheeling hubs is another added bonus reducing fuel costs and improves driving over 55mph,she drives very well with no excessive free play in the steering or slack in the drivetrain or excessive oil leaks,perhaps a few minor drips from the gearbox nothing to be overly concerned about.

The clutch has a slight Judder when pulling away but I'm not a clutch rider so it's not an issue,the brakes are spot on as to be expected as I've checked cleaned and adjusted the brakes,no spongy pedal or pulling when braking,as a lot of people seem to say,they are all like that,well not any of my series Landys as I actually like to maintain mine :)

The engine runs lovely and has been fitted with a Webber carb,she pulls well and has no excessive smoke ,she could benefit from an oil change now as not been able to do this due to recent hand injury although the oil is still very clean,along with a fresh coolant change,the cooling fan has been removed and a kenlow kit fitted.

Interior is in good condition with a seat upgrade to cloth series seats with head rests which in my opinion do not suit a lightweight But are comfy,the heater unit works well and is complete,along with that is a military fire extinguisher in passenger side footwell area which adds to the character,the doors are good,but drivers door top is a tad ropy but is still strong and not swinging in the wind but will need to be replaced in the near future,on a positive note they are just standard series door tops and readily available unlike some lightweight parts which as people who are in the know are hard to come by nowadays,and complete vehicles are fetching silly money.

In terms of service history all I have is the last mot certificate from 2007 a heritage certificate issued 2014 a complete Land Rover lightweight army manual and an old V5 along with the current up to date V5 the same owner since 1998 only 3 former keepers.

The hood and sticks are in good condition and she is water proof but the hood is showing signs of age so not new,back bench seats are fitted along with lap belts,the split tailgate is good with the straps to hold the pic axe and shovel sadly I don't have these but they do come up on here from time to time.

She has not been used as an off road toy but a piece of military history I have driven her like 30 miles since she was motd,so I'm testing the waters here as I'm not in a great rush to sell and a realistic reserve is set,viewing is welcome by appointment and test drives around the block so to speak.

Lightweight Land rover V8 1979

V8 Lightweight is up for sale. Its been used in summer months to ferry the family around the country lanes of Gloucestershire on picnics and trips to the pub. The chassis is solid, and the V8 engine sounds amazing. Its had a recent new rear cross-member, new suspension bits, headlights, reconditioned brakes, water-pump. Just passed its MOT ready for summer. There is some superficial corrosion near the passenger side door hinge, but generally its very solid and reliable, would make a great base for a full restoration.

1979 LAND ROVER 2.2 PETROL LWB IN GREEN

Sellers Comments - 

This one is a little bit different its for this 1979 Land Rover 2 1/4 Petrol Lwb

It has 42,000 miles showing which is believed genuine

As the pictures show this is by no means showroom condition

There is no mot with this vehicle

It was last mot'd October 2015 when it failed & has not been done or used since

It has been welded previously & can clearly be seen where it was done although not a bad job

The engine is very good was driven 50 miles here with no problem

The gearbox is good & changes through the gears with no issues

Axle is fine with no whines

The brakes just do not exist, the peddle hits the floor & it doesn't stop!!!

There are no indicators working either

The vehicle is a 1979 but shows registered on HPi as 1991 due to being Ex Military

This is an easy restoration for someone that knows what they are doing 

It will need to be collected with a trailer or flatbed due to brakes & lights not working

V5 & previous mot failure available

Previous failure was on the following

1. Service brake efficiency poor,

 2. O/s mirror insecure,

3. Windscreen washer insufficient washer liquid,

4. Direction indicators not working

5. Registration plate lamp showing white light

6. Battery insecure

7. N/s stop lamp not working

8 & 9. Rear reflectors missing

13 & 14. O/s & n/s front shock absorber lower bush worn

15 & 16. N/s & o/s front brakes little or no reading

Sellers Comments - Lovely Series 3. Always wanted one to try off-roading. Unfortunately a knee injury and subsequent operation means I cannot operate the clutch and have had to buy an auto. Has had a new rear crossmember fitted as well as most brake components. Front seats are mostly new. No rear seats fitted although I have the original rear bench seats with buyer is welcome to .Rear door is a cat flap which is fun. MOT is due but it has not been driven at all since last MOT although has been started up to keep it ticking over (First turn of the key). Has been totally re-sprayed and stored in the garage .I was hoping leg would improve but its not and cannot afford another year of tax and insurance for no purpose so needs to go ASAP.Deserves to be driven as its a head turner. Sellers Comments - For sale is my Land Rover series 3 lightweight 24V  LHD, two and a quater diesel ex-Dutch Army. I have owned it for the last three years, has been stored in garage. It is very original and has no rot on chassie. Long MOT. Five new tyres. New shocks all round a year ago. New seats all round. Everything works as it should. Great fun. Hard to find in this original condition. Could do with a paint, have original Dutch paint to do this but personally think it looks good the way it is. Very reluctant sale due to other ongoing project. This is advertised elsewhere so have the right to end at any time.

1979 LAND ROVER 109" - 4 CYL BLUE Series 3.

Sellers Comments - The good: Runs and drives, selects all gears, transfer-box works as it should. Starts easily. Bulkhead is good, with minor work needed in the foot wells as usual. Body is very straight, with just one small area of damage on the o/s rear wing. Passenger door is in OK condition and has some corrosion (easy repair) Drivers door is in great condition. The bad: The chassis needs attention, the front and mid-section of the chassis is very bad. The fuel tank leaks. All in all a great project vehicle for someone. The low mileage on the speedometer suggests an actual mileage of 101551 miles, which is an average of 2744 miles a year, so very low mileage!

Air Transportable Lightweight SIII 24v FFR Landrover 1979

I have owned this FFR lightweight for thirteen years and have maintained it as a toy for summer use. It had one other civilian owner who purchased it via Craddocks when it was decommissioned from the army. I am told it saw service in the first gulf war but this is not confirmed. It is a series 3 model, fitted for radio, with a 24volt electrical system which is very original in almost all respects. A weber carburettor has been fitted which is a worthwhile upgrade. It has had many new parts over the years including the hoop set, tilt and rear seats. The tyres have not done many miles, brakes reconditioned, new fuel pump ( recent ), batteries and exhaust. The fuel tank under the drivers seat is also quite new. The bulkhead floor pans are recent and solid. The chassis is original and has had a replacement rear cross member and one outrigger as well as some welding over the years. The vehicle is missing the top half of the rear door ( easily obtained ) which can be seen in the pictures. The speedo is erratic and the wipers tempremental but should not pose a big problem to fix. I am only selling due to a move to the outer hebrides where a tractor is a more appropriate toy.

Land Rover Series 3 Light Weight, Believed 1979, 12 Months MOT

Sellers Comments. I have re-listed as buy it now due to non-performance of successful winner of previous auction. He stated that he was not happy with the soft top , I am perplexed by this and have added a couple more photos of the soft top for your perusal or please come & see for yourself. Bought as part of a collection of vehicles, I need to pass this one on reluctantly having too many other commitments. having stood for many years, it was simple to re-commission and is now ready to use (drive away) or improve further. I got underneath it at MOT and has a rock solid chassis having been undersealed some time ago and floorpans replaced. Bulk head is also solid. Shows 20k miles which I understand could be a true reading as many ex-military were d-mobbed with low miles but this reading this cannot be verified. MOTs present dating back to 1990-2004 with corresonding mileage . has been SORN since. engine starts effortlessly every time and runs, revs and idles beautifully but does overrun when switched off, gear change, drive & brakes work as they should. Has a fuel tank switch for twin tanks but only one fitted. 3 new seats in front & rear bench seats, new canvas top. comes with a fitted rollbar (easily removable ) & rear spare wheel holder ( see photo ) hand painted coachwork is solid but needs work for a better look ( whoever did this also painted aluminium trims grille & bumpers ? ) wrong wheels fitted for a butch look, (i was planning to revert to original for drive-ability & original look.) tow bar & electrics fitted ( not tested)

Land Rover Light weight 1979

You are bidding on a Landrover Lightweight registered in 1974, if has a Perkins 3.3 deisel engine which starts first time everytime and pulls like a train. The gear box and diffs are in good order. It has basic rally seats and steering wheel. Has a modified electric cooling fan and free wheeling hubs. The Tild is in very good order. Overall it is in good condition for the age and the use. Bad bits; Has no current MOT, last one ran out last year. Has got wear and tear as you would imagine. Tyres are in Ok condition. Wiring loom needs a bit of TLC. Welding required in rear cross member (see attached picture). Bulk head has rust on door pillars and it will need a new exhaust. I'm sure there are other bits that will need checking before it will pass an MOT. All that aside this vehicle drives very will and will suit an enthusiast who has the time to get this classic back to its former glory. Oh yes, it used to be blue before the respray. I'm selling this for the old boy down the road who has had this vehicle for a while therefore any enquiries will take a bit of time to be answered as I will need to track him down. Land Rover Series 3 SWB 1979 'Pamela'

I've been considering selling my Land Rover Series 3 for a while now (I'm 18 and struggle to warrant paying the insurance out on two cars when she just doesn't get used enough), and have therefore decided to put her up for sale.

Pamela is a 1979 2.25L Petrol engined SWB Series 3, in fairly tidy condition for her age the only two major issues with her is the A pillars could do with being replaced (this would breath a new lease of life into her, but I don't feel I could do this task justice - so will leave it for the new owner) and the rear door inner frame needs to be replaced or a new rear door fitted. 

She has MOT until November and is currently Taxed etc (on the road and in use - just not regular enough). Around 84,000 miles on the clock which is fairly accurate as far as I can see. The previous owner had her for 11 years and put very few miles on her - I've have the MOTs for their ownership but nothing beyond that point. 

All four wheels will be cream before the sale - and the spare wheel for the bonnet which I've had off recently is also in good condition and cream. I have an aftermarket clamp which I used to hold this in place - seems to do the job perfectly well. Also just waiting for an electronic ignition kit to be sent and this will be fitted before the sale is completed - fed up of messing about with points and a condenser! 

Selectro freewheeling hubs and Fairey Overdrive fitted, works perfectly well as far as I can notice. 

Would need offers around £2750 to part with her really, but I understand she still needs work to be perfect - however this is a 36 year old Farm Utility vehicle though so do bear that in mind.
