Land Rover Series 2 classic - 1968

Sellers Comments - Hi welcome to my auction of my fantastic old 4x4 2 series, I bought her 5 years ago with all intentions of restoring her. As you can see it never happened and if Im honest with myself possibly wont. Anyway my loss someone else gain. She is solid little land rover, has been dry stored for the 5yrs that i have owned her and the guy before me owned her for 10 yrs . I have only taken her out into day light to sell. I have turned the engine slightly through moving the fan belt and all seems to be moving ok. Everything is original, engine etc and lots of parts to put back together, some still in wrappings new rubber seals etc. there is a few spare parts as well (extras) which may come in handy.

Landrover series 2a 1968/69..tax exempt project

Sellers Comments - Landrover series 2a 1968/69..tax exempt.
I got this for a job i did so I know next to nothing about it apart from what you see in the pictures.
It is pretty rusty but it's a million years old.The seats look ok though.
The bulkhead does need repair before i get asked that one.
The engine does turn over but i haven't managed to start it yet.this is obviously spares or repairs so you will need to trailer it away.
It is what it is ,a rusty tax-exempt vehicle that some landy nut will love or a source of parts for someone.
I have repaired and put these back on the road in much worse condition but i have neither the time or enthusiasm for it now
only bid if you are able to take it within a week i will not store it.Chassis number is on a plate courtesy of a previous owner on the inner wing

1968 Landrover Series IIa/2a LWB 109" Barn find/Project/Restoration

Sellers Comments - For Sale

1968 Series 2A 109" Landrover

Restoration Project - Runs and drives

Please Note: Harvey Frost Recovery Hook is NOT included in this sale. It will be removed before selling.

I am selling my 1968 Series 2A as I do not have time to restore this to the condition it deserves. I have owned the vehicle for over 10 years, and was purchased as a non-runner. I have had it MOT'd and on the road since I recomissioned it, and it passed its last MOT in November 2015. However a rear wheel cylinder has now seized up and it will not pass another one. The mileage listed is shown on the odometer, but cannot in anyway be verified. I honestly have no idea how many miles it has done in 38 years.

The vehicle is complete, but in poor condition. It has had lots of modifications in the time I have had it, and some done before I purchased the vehicle. The rear springs are heavy duty 10 leaf, and were presumably fitted when the hook was fitted. The Harvey Frost hook is NOT included with the vehicle. Everything else is as seen in photographs. It has an alternator converson fitted, and a SU electric fuel pump under the drivers seat. The original mechanical one is still fitted to the block but bypassed. Has Weber 34ICH carb fitted.Starts and runs first time, even after standing for 6 months without turning. Front tyres are very old, but have quite a bit of tread left they are Colways I think. Rear tyres are younger but still more than 10 years old, Wrangler AP with plenty of tread left on these too. 7.50x16 all round on LWB rims. Has retrofitted mirrors on the windscreen hinges, give excellent view to rear when towing. Rear lights were re-wired recently but main looms are all original. The steering box was rebuilt around 5 years ago when it failed.

Now for the some bad points! Paintwork and bodywork as you can see is dreadful. It was originally blue, but has been resprayed red, then bronze green, then Nato green. It will need completely stripping, respraying and quite a bit of undenting, however all the parts are there and the bulkhead and inner wings, rad panel etc. are all in good condition. I can see no major rot on the bulkhead, the tops, shoulders and outrigger mounts are all solid, though the footwells have been patched and could do with attention. Any restoration would involve a complete stripdown and the buklheads are easily repaired. The rear tub has definitly seen better days, the floor panel will need changing as it was cut about by whoever put the recovery hook in place, and I have had to patch the joint. The sides of the rear tub are creased and dented. Better I think to fit another tub in better condition. The rear crossmember is reasonably solid, however there has been patching to the rear chassis rails on several MOT's to pass, I suspect a new rear half chassis or replacement crossmember with extensions would be the best solution, as the rot keeps reappearing. Front of chassis is all solid. Moving inside the original seats and Smiths heater have long gone, the nearside seat is something unknown and far too high, the drivers seat I fitted is from a Bedford Midi van mounted to a custom frame which hinges up to allow access to fuel tank and pump. Middle seat is unusable. Steering wheel has been changed to one from a Trimuph PI 2500 but the leather is cracked and broken at the top. It has been taped up. Under the bonnet the master cylinder has been reconditioned and an alternator has been fitted, removing the original regulator box. The connections have been maintained at the regulator and one could be refitted and a dynamo replaced (why would you do this?). The engine has seen better days and is exhibiting some big end rumble under load, and top speed is down from the 70mph when I bought it to nearer 55mph. The water pump is leaking from the spindle and will need replacing, however it the engine does start up without any difficulty even after it has been unused for 3months plus. Gearbox and axles have never given any trouble, and as far as I know are original and all work fine, except the reverse detent springs on the gearlever itself, which have long gone. 2WD/4WD and low levers all work correctly.

To be honest I will be reluctant to see this go, but it is getting to the stage where it needs complete restoration and I simply do not have the time to restore another Series at present. I would like to see it go to a good home, but I will not accept silly offers. I know what they are worth both as a barn find and in good condition.

I strongly reccomend viewing before purchase. I can be contacted via email or on 07005 980949. Please be aware that I am unable to take calls at work until after 8pm, please call befor 11pm or at weekends.

Land Rover series 2a 1968 Diesel 2792cc

I have a letter from Land Rover quoting that this is a series 2a (VIN) No: 24132135D3 that was built in Solihull by Land Rover Ltd on or about the 1st March 1968. The vehicle was subsequently despatched to C.V.D at Irvine for distribution to the Armed Forces. Hence its P plate, I have not requested a 1968 reg number from DVLA but see no reason should the new owner wish to request one. V5C states its an historic vehicle and is road tax free, annual insurance £111.42 garaged. This Land Rover was extensively refurbished in 1997 and a chiltern power conversion undertaken. Copy of bills available. - More Information - Additional Photos

Land Rover Series IIa SWB, 1968, Galvanized Chassis, injected V8, tax exempt

This is an SWB Series IIa truck cab Landie with an injected Rover 3.5 V8. It sits on a galvanized coil sprung chassis and has early Rangie axles with 4-wheel servo-assisted disc brakes. You'll probably recognize the colour as Pastel Green (like the last-ever Defender). The interior has black deluxe seats. Inertia reel seat belts are fitted. The rear sliding window felts were replaced recently and so the glass operates smoothly. The engine is a 9.75:1 compression injected Rover V8, which according to the engine specs I've seen means 190bhp from the factory. I don't know if any work's been done on it since, but it certainly feels strong. There's no smoke, rattles or knocks. It has a thermostatically controlled Kenlowe fan and the radiator has been repaired and flushed recently. The gearbox is a four-speed unit. The exhaust is a custom-built dual stainless steel system with a transverse silencer nicely tucked up under the pick up bed - see pic. The wheels are Compomotive 15x7s with Runway 31 / 10.5 / 15 tyres, with plenty of tread (see pic). I couldn't find locking nuts for these wheels on the market, so I had a set machined to fit. The wiring has been upgraded with colour-coded cabling and an 8 way fusebox. The MoT is until 9 October 2016 and of course it's tax exempt. Included in the sale is a box of spares, including an ECU, air flow meter, resistor pack, fuel pump & filter. There's box file full of receipts, MoT certificates, etc. This LR runs really well and has never let me down. Sometimes it'll sits for weeks but always starts on the button. The exhaust sounds great, strong but not too loud. I'm only selling because I don't use it enough - it's only travelled 18 miles since the last MoT - and I have another couple of classics taking up my time and money. I think I've set a fair starting price and there's NO RESERVE. Happy bidding. - Sellers Comments

1968 Land Rover Series 2A 109 LWB rare 2.6 engine & 1 previous owner & 61,100 ml

1968 Land Rover Series 2A 109 - Long Wheel Base

Only one previous owner.

Sellers Comments

MOT to 21.1.2017 (only advisory is tyres)

Rare 2.6 petrol engine - 6 cylinder "straight six"

Free road tax (classic vehicle).

67,000 miles (low because spent life on private estate)

Very cheap to insure (Footman James classic insurance for 30s male £92 a year fully comp.)

Only 1 previous owner (V5 states "No. of former keepers 1")

Purchased by myself in 2012 from huge Sussex estate where it had spent its life with one owner.

It's like a time-warp!  Original Smiths square heater, dealer sticker below split windscreen, etc.

I spent a fortune with my independent garage on the mechanicals (making them perfect in my opinion) whilst keeping bodywork and interior original.

New battery (2015)
New roofrack (2013 from Paddocks)
New propshafts (2013)
Recent brake shoes, clutch slave and master cyclinders
Replaced sump, side, cam-cover gaskets along with sparks, ignition system and HT leads.
Full new exhaust system
And lots of other small mechanical details.

Tyres are original with low treads, but with low mileage I've not seen need to change them due to low mileage, and they keep originality.

Yes, it's a petrol!  The 2.6 six cylinder engine is very rare, few were originally installed as they were expensive at the time and also so many were taken out in recent years and replaced with a modern diesel as the engine bay, with the larger 2.6 removed, can accommodate TD5s and similar modern diesels.

I spent ages looking for one with this 2.6 petrol. It runs perfectly like a sewing machine at tick-over, roars with revs like a lion, always starts first time, totally reliable, and above all at low local mileages the difference between it and a diesel (from that era) on fuel is about £10 month for myself.

Also, this engine gives it power to keep up on modern roads, sounds amazing and keeps the driver happy, whilst retaining utter engine originality.

Bench seats in back with back cushions on sides (used to be estate vehicle). Fantastic practical classic - amazing how much can fit into back!

Drives very, very well. Incredibly reliable. Receives vast amounts of attention from people when out and about - it's original look and patina just makes it look and sound "right".

Selling because I'm emigrating and so reducing my substantial vehicle collection.

Classic landrover SWB 1968' series 2, 2 1/4 petrol, cream, tax free, classic ins

Sellers Comments - Hi all, I'm selling my series 2 landrover after 6 years, only problem in that time the 1/2 shaft snapped otherwise never missed a beat but we only do 3-400 miles a year in her ( the family call her "Dinky" because of her reg number) The engine has always rattled (top end I think) on the overrun when warm, quiet on accelerating or decelerating but it's never bothered us as we don't go too far, she I first bought her I spent £400 on her for her first MOT (no welding was needed) and she has passed every year since. I havnt bothered this year as she needs tyres and bits and pieces, and as someone will probably want to restore her, I decided not to spend any money on her, good luck bidding. Please phone Pat on 07710741122 if you want to come and view.

Restoration project 1968 Series 2A Land Rover 88 SWB Diesel (free of road tax)

Restoration project 1968 Series 2A Land Rover 88 SWB  Diesel. Road tax exempt.
Equipped with the following extras:
  •   Fairey Overdrive
  •   Freewheeling hubs
  •   Roof Rack
  •   Snow chains
  •   Extra spare wheel
  •   Some soundproofing
  •   Heater
  •   Lamp cages
  •   Spare "standard" rear door with matched paint.

The extras are listed elsewhere for sale or I can bundle the whole lot in as wanted.
Safari roof and hatch style rear door.
Bodywork nice and straight but chassis needs a little welding in outriggers. Bulkhead does need some work however and needs repair or replacement.
Two owner vehicle from new and was last restored in 1993 with bodywork repainted, chassis painted and waxoiled. New wiring loom put in at that time and still seems ok.
It’s all original with V5 document and number plate that will go with the vehicle. I have owned the vehicle for many years, restored once but and simply have not had the time to start again after having a family.
Engine last ran 4 years ago but still moves freely with the starter handle. Can connect up a battery if you want to try and start her up.
Can't drive at the moment because the clutch needs bleeding and the same goes for the brakes
Many parts and spares included to start off any restoration project.
Please remember the vehicle is 47 years young and has not moved for a while. It will most definitely need a trailer to remove probably with a winch to get onto the trailer!
If you require further information or photographs please contact me and I will do my best to help. The vehicle and extras are listed elsewhere so the auction may cease if a buyer outside ebay comes forward before the auction end time.

1968 Landrover Series IIA Tax Exempt Diesel

Tax exempt 1968 Landrover Series IIA fitted with 2.5ltr LDV diesel engine, recently replaced clutch and gearbox & Fairey overdrive fitted. MOT until December 2015. Pickup cab, spare wheel & loads of spare parts. I've had my Landy for five years and used it as a fantastic workhorse on our market garden. Starts on the button every time, HID headlights & sidelights, sound chassis with no rust, went through last MOT with no advisories. MP3 Sound system included. It is a working vehicle with a few dings on the bodywork but nothing that can't be improved with a fresh lick of paint. Would make a hardy & reliable ready-to-go work vehicle, or a fine project for improvement. I've got a reserve as these things are holding their value & I know what its worth.

Land Rover Series 2a 1968 SWB NO RESERVE - Location - Northwich, United Kingdom

Sellers Comments

I have owned this lovely Landrover since 1998. It has been used reguarly throughout the last 17 years. It has only done 58,000 miles in its 47 year life! I have always had it maintained properly. It comes with a new MOT. It is tax exempt.

Good bits
Original chassis and engine both in good condition. Full engine rebuild 5 years ago. Good body work. Good tyres with plenty of life left in them. Free wheeling hubs.

Bad bits.
Paint work ok but could do with a respray some time. The passenger side wing is dented and could probably do with another if you want it perfect. The door tops are rusty at the bottom and could do with replacing, again if you want it perfect. The diesel engine is noisy and slow. As it was when it was made! It does about 50mph!

This is a good honest old Landy. It works well and has nothing to hide. I have too many Land rovers and no space for them. I will be sad to see it go. Sold without reserve.
It will be great for the summer with the roof off.

Please no time wasters. I did advertise it last year but some idiot bid and didn't pay. Just got round to listing it again. No bidders with feedback less than 25 and no one with positive feedback for not paying! If this is you, your bid will be cancelled.

£500 immediate paypal deposit required from winning bidder with cash on collection, which should be within 3 days of auction end unless we organise something else. Many thanks
