1954 Land Rover 107 Series 1 Recovery Truck

Sellers Comments
Landrover 107 Series 1 in original 1950's livery for Steel's of Cheltenham Rover and Wolseley main dealers.

Built 21st December 1954, it was dispatched to Mann Egerton of Norwich on 29th December where I think it was converted to a Recovery Truck using Mann Egertons own manufactured recovery equipment .
It was registered on 1st February 1955 whether it went straight to Steels of Cheltenham is unclear.

It has undergone an extensive rebuild by myself retaining original paintwork and sign writing where possible (it had been completely painted over with light blue paint which was painstakingly removed to reveal the original paint and sign writing)

It has a brand new Radfords galvanised bulkhead, The chassis was repaired where needed but was in very good order to start with.
The engine is not the original but is the correct spread bore 2ltr petrol of similar age which was rebuilt and runs perfectly.
The gearbox and both axles were rebuilt, the rear axle is from a later Series 2 which is a common upgrade from the fragile Series 1 rear axle.

In the rear is fitted an original Mann Egerton crane complete with support jacks on the rear cross member.
On the front is fitted a Mann Egerton Towing Ambulance with it's draw bar stored under the rear body through the PTO hole in the rear cross member.

I have fitted a later Series 1 recirculating ball steering box to make the steering less wayward and lighter, but will include the original box and Horn/Dip switch in the sale.

The 107 was featured in Land Rover Owner International Magazine April 2012.

This is a very unique vehicle that creates a lot of interest.

It has only covered 430 miles since I finished it in 2011 so its time for someone else to enjoy it.

Its is MOT and Tax exempt but has just passed an MOT which expires 01/05/2018.

The last picture is a period picture of a similar equipt 107 belonging to Mann Egerton.

Its located near Alton Hampshire GU34

1954 Austin Champ Starts+Drives MOT Exempt V5C Military Jeep Barn Find Landrover

Sellers Comments - Lovely Austin Champ in need of restoration. The engine starts and runs very nicely. I have driven it up and down the lane a few times forwards and in reverse and it appears to drive nicely (Check out the video link). It selects and goes into all gears okay although I have only driven it up to 2nd as it has NO BRAKES. As you may know there is a forward and reverse selector which allows you to go into all gears both forwards and in reverse. So should go 50mph in reverse. Here is a video of it starting and driving.

I bought this champ a while back with the intention of restoring it but reality has now hit me and I do not have the time or money to go ahead with it.

It has been stored undercover, the coolant was drained for storage but I have filled it back up with water to show you it running.

The previous owner had some history on it which I can pass on. It has been registered on the Austin Champ Register and was used in Scotland RAOC until 1968 when it was sold from the war department for civilian use, it was then registered on a civilian plate which it is still registered on now. Chassis number is WN1 8525. I also have an Austin Champ Workshop Manual on CD which will be included in the sale.

I have V5C logbook in my name with Registration number.

Being 1954 it is MOT and Tax Exempt.
