Land Rover Series 2 109 LWB Pickup Ex-Military 1959 Unfinished Project

Sellers Comments -
For sale is my ex-military 1959 Land Rover Series 2 109 LWB Pickup unfinished project
I bought this vehicle in April this year and worked on it in my spare time. The plan was to finish it completely and either use it or sell it but unfortunately I am going to have to sell it as it is, because I just don't have the time to finish it.
This is an ideal winter project for a Land Rover enthusiast! A lot of the hard work is already done!
This is a solid investment as Land Rovers are going up in value!
Tax and MOT exempt
First registered on 12/07/1959 then registered for civilian use on 10/06/1999 with 4 former keepers since this date.
Sadly it does not have the original engine or gearbox. I have been told the engine is a Sherpa van 2.5 N/A Diesel (but it looks very similar to the Defender engine) with a Defender LT77 gearbox and LT230 transfer box.
V5C present and in my name, chassis number also present.
Bodywork is in good condition. It has had a full respray in matte Deep Bronze Green. There wasn't a lot wrong with the bodywork to start with, it just had a rough paint job and the previous owner had started to sand it down but the body was straight, which is unlikely on a Land Rover!
The wheels have been painted the same colour.
The tyres are in good condition but the near side rear tyre has damage/scoring to the inside.
Mileage reads 133,797 but I am not sure if that is genuine or not.
Sadly I have no paperwork or MOT documents with the vehicle but some information can be found on the DVLA website.
I am currently in the process of finding out the military history, if anyone knows how to find this info please let me know!
It has had many new parts fitted including battery, transfer box input gear and bearings, transfer box cover, front diff bearings, clutch release bearing, handbrake cable, handbrake drum parts, clutch plate, fan belt, rear brake shoes, 2 wheel cylinders on NSF, air filter and fresh oil in the engine, gearbox, transfer box and diffs.
The number plates are in the military style with 3 rows of 2 digits but I think it is supposed to be 2 rows of 3 digits to be completely legal.
The chassis seems to be in very good condition, it may have had a new chassis at some point in it's life.
As this was bought as a project there were various parts missing and I have managed to source most of the parts but there might be the odd bit missing still, I'm not too familiar with Land Rover's so I'm not 100% sure of what might still be missing.
What's left to do:
I have not yet managed to get the engine running so I cannot guarantee that the engine is good. It cranks over, but slowly. I attempted to bump start it by towing it but found out that the clutch is not working. I have bled it but it still won't disengage.
The brakes are spongy so there is a problem somewhere in the system.
The wiring needs some attention, the loom is not connected to any of the front lights and I am not sure if it has a live feed to the lights.
I'm not too mechanically minded but this might be an easy fix for the right person!
Those are the main bits that need doing, then it needs the odd part being purchased such as the sill covers and wiper.
A box of spare parts and nuts/bolts are included as well as the gearbox tunnel covers.
I have described this vehicle to the best of my knowledge.
This vehicle will need to be trailered away, it could be delivered locally at a cost.
Located at Ely, Cambridgeshire.
Sold as seen.
Cash on collection preferred but will also accept bank transfer.
Any questions or to arrange a viewing just ask.
Viewing is recommended to get a good idea of what work is left to do to finish the car.
£200 goodwill deposit required within 24 hours of the auction ending.
Happy bidding!

1959 LAND ROVER

Sellers Comments Welcome to my auction for my 1959 Landrover Series 2 petrol. I have owned this for about 10 years and had the intention of sticking a V8 in it and using it as a fun vehicle. The trouble is a 90 came along and this poor old girl was left at the top of the garden. I did a lot of work on the chassis but from what I can see it would need the rear cross member and both front dumb irons replaced at the very least although from what I can remember the rest seemed structurally sound. I had contemplated changing the chassis but that would destroy the history of the vehicle. As you can see it was first registered in 1977 hence the S registration and the log book also says it was rebuilt- assembled from parts some or all which were not new. I do have a letter from the heritage trust confirming the Chassis number relates to a chassis manufactured in October 1959. I don't know any other history but presume it was imported or ex military or just built up in 1977 on an old chassis. It is classed as a historic vehicle so it tax and MOT free!!! I have replaced the leaf springs with parabolic springs and changed the brake cylinders several years ago and also replaced the outer front wings, drivers door bottom and radiator. It starts and moves under its own steam but really needs a total rebuild or at least chassis repairs, brakes, engine service and possibly gearbox rebuild. It is 56 years old so basically you wont be able to drive it home, there may be bits missing but its generally all there and in not totally falling to bits. It comes with the split rear door where the top part lifts up. Apparently quite rare. It was last mot'ed in 2003. The only reason I have decided to sell it is because I just don't have the time to give it the attention it needs and hate to see it rusting away although if it does not sell it will be driven back up the top of the garden and left for another 10 years!! I have seen these fetching crazy money when fully restored! I guess it would be best to come and have a look at it before you bid but I am happy to honestly answer any questions about the condition of the truck although I think the pictures give you a good idea! If you do bid and you win, it is to buy and not just have a look. I have the V5 in my name. I would prefer cash on collection and clearly this is collection only and it will need to be trailered away. I have this listed elsewhere so have the right to remove at any point.

Land Rover Series 2 1959 petrol used daily

Tax and MOT exempt. Mostly orginal unmolested spec. Only 4 owners from new, 1st - 36yrs, 2nd - 17yrs, 3rd - 6months (trade), 4th myself.

Sellers Comments
Mod cons: Overdrive, F.W.H and radio.  Still with its orginal features positive earth, Dynamo, crash gearbox (fill from the top and no jumping out of gears).  All work as they should.  Solid chassis has had a few patches in its time.  New rear crossmember and new footwells.  Pretty much straight body panels with all rivets showing.  Two sets of wheels (check photos) 4 x Wolfsteel (with Goodyear G90 tyres), 4 x Greensteel (with good tyres).  Two new inward facing rear seats, 2 x under seat storage.  A box full of history and receipts including a 17yr notebook from 2nd owner.

Altogether a nice Landrover Series 2, by no means perfect, a coat of paint and a new canvas and this would look mint in my opinion, but looks  great as is.
