Landrover Series 1 one 80 inch Tdi Land Rover early 1950 ex military Lights through grill rare narrow front springs

Sellers Comments -

Here we have my 1950 series one 80 inch, rare ex military model released from the army 26th July 1963 and only 6 owners including me since!

Firstly I would  like to say that I am not responsible for any of the modifications or the awful colour that this poor little humiliated 80 has had to endure! As such that means what you see is what you get and I do not have any of the original parts. Please read on it`s not all bad.

This little beauty has been my daily driver for the last 6 months, I have shelved out the rear with 12mm thick resin coated plywood and use it to carry all my tools, for the smallest of Landrovers there is a surprising amount of room for carrying things. TOOLS NOT INCLUDED

Original leaf sprung 1950 chassis with the early type narrow front springs. It has a custom fuel tank so one of the original tank outriggers has been cut off (easy to source and replace) and as well as the fuel tank under the driver`s seat it is filled from another tank (linked together) situated behind the front seats in the spare wheel well.

The original rear crossmember has been modified in that they kept the original square ends but have put in a centre piece that is not as deep as the  original with a smaller PTO hole which the exhaust now exits through. Very rattly exhaust!

Other wise chassis in good solid original condition, would not take much to make all original again with the right rear crossmember and new fuel tank outrigger or leave as is.

See photo for worst part of chassis, driver`s side next to front spring rear hanger would want a small patch doing in next 12 months but easy to get too. She`s no patchwork quilt seen alot worse chassis.

There is a 200tdi discovery engine fitted without the intercooler.

Series 3 gearbox with fairey overdrive

Free wheel hubs

Power steering

Remote brake servo

Series 3 axles

Series 2 heater so push button start relocated in dash with a small stainless push button

Series 3 wiper mechanism (one wiper fitted)

Still has original series 1 pedals though which is nice although looks like the accelerator pedal is modified.

First thing I would do is get the brush out and some green paint

The speedo stopped working last month

Rare hard top which is remarkably straight, although someone has put a safari double skin on it which of course they did not do until later series 1 models came out.

It really does drive very nicely indeed especially with the power steering and the tdi means it will do 70 mph and keep up with modern traffic while returning 40 plus mpg as it`s so light. I wanted an 80 to use as a daily driver and this is it.

Think the front brakes want a wheel cylinder as have recently had the rears done with new shoes and cylinders but it still needs a second pump of the pedal to pull up to a decent stop.

Original bulkhead sidelights removed and replaced with LED items (I know, what was someone thinking!)

I would prefer any genuine buyer to view before auction ends as with any vehicle you have not modified yourself you overlook or get used to how it without realising it is changed from original.

No rear cat flap, it is a series one rear door cut in half! Does the job though.

So in all either keep as is (perhaps not the colour!) and use as an economical tax and MOT exempt daily driver (workhorse) as I have been or perhaps do the bits to get the chassis back to original spec paint her green and get a soft top.

In my opinion worth doing either way and being an ex military model it is slightly rarer with the one piece opening bulkhead vent and the trailer electrics connector.
Original number plate still with it and currently not fitted I do have it`s original military ID plate.
No military grab handles present on the rear tub but these are still available from Craddocks as are original side lights.

To be honest I had toyed with the idea of buying a scrap minerva as these are around 2-3k to buy now, then simply re fit the parts engine, gearbox, axles all back to series 1 spec but I just do not have the time plus I already have a mint original 1953 80 as well.

I will include a new galvanised front bumper as the one fitted has been painted black and I also have an original spare wheel holder for the rear tub that can go back if you wish to move the extra fuel tank.

Sorry no overseas bidders, 100 non refundable paypal deposit within 24 hours of winning auction, collection within 1 week and payment via instant bank transfer or cash please.

Many thanks

1950 LAND ROVER SERIES 1 *EXCEPTIONAL EXAMPLE*

Sellers Comments his is my lovely series one and as a Series one Owners Club Member I have enjoyed driving and attending rallies in her. She is kept in a heated Garage away from the elements. Have seen lots of these on eBay described as original when they are in fact no more than an over restored collection of Land Rover spares with an old Chassis number, This is an opportunity to acquire a genuine example which can be enjoyed as it is or sympathetically restored to perfection. Registration is original issued 3rd May 1950 in Northern Ireland and imported back to England on 9th Jan 1951. (R0611-0746) I have the original R.F. 60 Registration Book. Heritage Trust Certificate and lots of invoices This vehicle has its original 1949 1.6 petrol engine (Number 06110998) which starts 1st time every time. Chassis has some repairs as they all do if original, the bulkhead is superb with no corrosion. Started life as a blue Pickup but obviously repainted over the years. I have replaced various items on this Vehicle which were worn out or unserviceable such as the seat bases, Canvas door flaps and Tilt but I Have all of the original parts boxed up and these will go with the Vehicle.

Land Rover Series 1 - 80 inch - 1950

Land rover Series 1 80inch 1950 (no chassis number or any form of car ID)
This was converted to an off road trailer in the late 80s, it was modified for competition use (see pics).
I was given the opportunity to bring her back to a standard 80inch, however things have not really worked out and I have lost interest in the project. Unfortunately the old girl does not have any Chassis ID or Reg number.
I stripped the whole thing down refurbished and repaired the chassis with two new front dumb irons, engine/gearbox main cross member. Over the years it has been welded in many places these have been checked and cleaned up.
The rear Tub is an original 80, the seat box is from original car, steering box is later series 2, springs are wide series 2 parabolic (new), Fuel tank original series1 80 but needs repairing with all parts(filling tube, cap, pipe feed).
Front wings, rad panel and bonnet from Series1 radiator is original.
New headlights, indicators, side lights
Bulk head has been completely rebuilt from two bulk heads now perfect (well almost).
Axles Front is series 1, rear is series 2/3 with 1950 Diff.
Doors series 1 80 no handles outside.
Tailgate series 1
Only one seat back, no other seats, no door tops hood or sticks
All new brake pipes fitted with series 2 master cylinder small bore pipes with later brake wheel cylinders and a servo mounted under seat box.
Gearbox original 80 from original car, Has oil leaks, all working but not had it up to road speed.
Prop shafts have been refurbished with new UJs.
Engine is Ford Essex 3.0L V6, runs but not perfect.
This Land rover series 1 is 95% complete needs finishing or using as spares. I am not sure if it can be registered without a chassis ID of some kind.
I would recommend viewing its to good to break up really and just for spare parts it worth in the region of £4000 min.
call me Guy on 07776207536 to discuss further and arrange a viewing.
THIS LAND ROVER HAS NO CHASSIS NUMBER OR CHASSIS PLATE OR REG NUMBER

1950 Landrover Series 1 - Lights Through Grill

Sellers Comments.
1950 landrover series one project.
Bought with good intentions to restore but realistically do not have the time or space anymore
This vehicle is a late 1950 lights through the grill model with wide front springs and narrow rears.
Unfortunately it does not have no current v5c but the full process to try and claim the registration back through the lrsoc is mostly complete with a portfolio including engineers reports and dating information ect so the harder work is done
Chassis number present.
It is loosely together, in aid of restoration... There are parts missing and what is seen is all I have.
It has an early 2lt engine and gearbox. I have had this running lovely and can be shown working correctly. All ancillarys are of period
The chassis is solid but has had previous plated repairs, this could benefit from tidying.
The bulkhead is poor and the top section has gone, i had intentions to repair this but plenty of work could see it used if you are a good fabricator.
Very strait rear tub, minus one area on the nsr that will repair, all body panels present
Steering box, rear hood hoops, tailgate (no cappings) there is also a spare tub with no capping but not in great condition included if wanted.
Strait bonnet and doors, started repair work on the fuel tank as bottom was rotten so this will be usable with a inner seal coat also
Have pedal relay, bulkhead grab rail, dash cluster, ametre gague
No other instruments or pedals.

Overall this is a good starting project

Land Rover Series One 80" 1950, 1600cc, unrestored, very original, 25500 miles

Sellers Comments - 1950 Land Rover 80" Lights through grill, narrow spring model with yellow knob freewheel gearbox. Chassis number 061123xx 25500 miles which I beleive is genuine judging by previous history and wear on pedals (I am only second recorded keeper) Very original unrestored vehicle with original Staffordshire registration. I have owned this for eight years, prior to my purchase it was laid up in a barn since the mid 1960's. The chassis and bulkhead are in very good condition. The chassis has no patches, and original rear crossmember with implement towing plate.

Land Rover Series One 1 80" Feb 1950, RHD, lights behind grille model, Barn find Incredibly solid, dry stored for 24 years, WD supplied

Sellers Comments -
Introduction:

I have been the happy custodian of this Solihull treasure for the last nine years: where it has sat quietly in the back of the garage and always aroused much interest...

We have a Land Rover garage here in Normandy, specialising in Range Rover Classics, but we love anything from the Green Oval stable: we have just had a beautiful baby boy join the family, and I'm now struggling to convince my good lady wife why I need thirty-seven Land Rovers!! Hence it is now (reluctantly) up for sale...

The Landy is in remarkably good and almost completely rust-free condition, which is why I bought it. It was last on the road in 1991, and has been correctly dry-stored ever since...

A little about the known history of the car:

This car left the production line in February 1950, and was part of a government War Department contract: it's original military registration number was 18 BC 76 , and it still has the W^D brass plaque on the bulkhead. The Chassis number is of the R061 series, which dates it as a '50 model year RHD home market model...

A plaque on the rocker cover shows that it was overhauled in Ashford, Middlesex in September 1956, under repair order number 11620.

I have no idea of it's disposal date, and would love to here from any series one buffs  who may be able to add further information...

It came over to France in the mid-eighties, and was sold to the head of a well-known French arms manufacturer for use on his country estate. ( I shall make no allusions to the production of rubber rifles that simply bounce when dropped, as my French lady wife will undoubtedly read this: I will therefore allow you to draw your own inferences...)

At some point during his tenure, the engine was removed due to a broken crankshaft, and the Landy was fitted with a petrol engine which, I am informed, was taken from a Hotchkiss jeep. Not long thereafter, he sold the car to a friend of his, who used it until 1991, intending to repair the original motor.

It sat in a corner of his stables, patiently awaiting an engine rebuild that never took place, for a further fifteen years, before I purchased the Landy in 2006...

Land Rover Series 1 - 80 inch - 1949/50

80 inch Series 1, believed to be 1949-1950 model, possibly ex-Mod first registered in 1953 locally (Rhuthin). No v5 or history, non-original BMC 2.5 diesel (block cracked but runs well enough to drive it on to a trailer), what looks like a Salisbury rear axle. My grandfather has owned this for a few years but isn't going to have the time to do it so has decided to sell. Tailgate is missing, it's sold as seen
Auction will run to the end regardless- no offers please, viewing fine, buyer arranges collection within 7 days of auction end having paid a 10% deposit on the close of the auction. I'm a series 2 fan myself but know enough to answer most questions and have tried to picture most dating features such as the sidelights, bulkhead, pedals etc.
Overseas bids and no feedback will be automatically cancelled, please see previous vehicle sale feedback.
