Off-roading in Surrey - can you handle it? This farm estate just outside Redhill provides a whopping 250 acres of countryside terrain for you to play in driving a modern 4x4 vehicle. Whether or not you've ever driven off road before, your driving session will be geared up to suit your level. For this two hour experience you may be part of a small group of up to four drivers on the day. By keeping the group sizes small, you can all fit into the vehicle and driving duties are rotated, with an expert instructor sitting up front in the passenger seat to help with tips and advice if you need it. The idea is to start off gently getting used to driving the 4x4 and then by the end you'll be tracking through rutted trails with the wing mirror nearly scraping the side, you'll be leaning that far over. Your off roading in Surrey starts with a warm welcome at the Old Barn or the Lambing Shed, both converted barns and used by the venue to offer good on site facilities including hot showers, toilets and changing facilities. Challenging 4x4 course in Mid Kent near Maidstone with 200 acres of woods, fields and orchards to test your off road skills.  1.5 hour or half day shared sessions are available.  Both will test the capabilities of the four wheeled drive cars at this BORDA and LANTRA (the 4x4 driving associations) approved 4x4 centre.

1.5 Hour Shared Experience
Short briefing on technique and a demonstration from your instructor in the vehicle before you get behind the wheel to tackle the specially designed off-road challenge.  Your instructor will bebeside you, helping with advice to ensure you enjoy the experience to the maximum as you scale crazy gradients and negotiate axle-twisting cambers.  The course has features that will provide a challenge for experienced off road drivers as well as for beginners

Half Day Shared Experience
After the welcome as above there will be a classroom theory session to cover the principles of off road driving and ensure that all participants are confident before setting off.  You will be driving in groups of three plus instructor, with each person taking a turn at the wheel so you can all learn from each other's experiences.  
You will get at least 55 minutes personal drive time.  Groups of three will be in an exclusive party with their own instructors, maximum groups size three. The activity will last between three and three and a half hours.

Some of the sites are purpose-built by Land Rover for professional 4x4 driver training, with steep ascents, water holes and log bridges for testing your balancing skills. For these hour-long taster sessions in Shropshire, most pupils go to the 4x4 obstacle course in Chirk near Oswestry, with its V-shaped gullies, deep trenches and over-the-bonnet water troughs all spread out over two acres of gruelling landscape. These half days offered at these locations are ideal for anyone wanting to gain experience and knowledge of the basic factors of driving 4x4 vehicles in  demanding and exciting off-road environments. During your tuition you will learn all about the main principles of off-road driving and experience situations such as slopes, ditches, ruts, mounds and lots of mud! 

You will also be taught techniques that will enable you to tackle steep hill climbs, recover from failed hill climbs and make safe descents. The vehicles used vary from location to location, but the pool of 4x4's used includes Vauxhall Frontera, Land Rover 110 and the Land Rover Discovery. 

The 3:1  tuition offered at all locations ensures you get lots of training time to master the art of 4x4 off-road driving. You will be tackling some outstanding off-roading terrain – ranging from a disused sandstone quarry to acres of varied woodland terrain. If you prefer a more personal driving adventure then we have many one to one off road courses on our main off roading section.

The experience starts with a safety briefing and then it’s your turn to take to the wheel as you start off on a ‘training ground’ – designed to give you an insight into some of the basic off-road conditions; crossing ditches, traversing side slopes, accelerating through mud and water and tackling 40 degree downhill slopes!
