2009 Land Rover Zulu Defender. 480bhp. 4.2 V8 Supercharged. 1 of 12 Ltd Edition

This is a very special Land Rover Defender. Unlike numerous "breathed on" pretenders the Zulu Defender has been re-engineered by performance specialists JE Engineering. JE has a long history of producing competition engines for several different classes of motorsport including Drag Racing, Touring Cars and Off-road racing, having supplied engines for Bowler’s highly successful Wildcat off-road racing cars from 2003 onward, and Land Rover’s Paris Dakar team from 1985-1987. This isn't a standard engine that has been remapped, this is a bespoke Zulu drivetrain with upgraded gearbox, diffs, prop shafts, brakes, suspension and exhaust.

Sellers Comments

PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST ORIGINAL UNRESTORED, UNMOLESTED EX-ARMY LAND ROVERS STILL AVAILABLE FOR SALE.
THE BULKHEAD, CHASSIS AND RUNNING GEAR ARE ALL IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
THE ENGINE TURNS BUT HAS NOT BEEN RUN FOR MANY YEARS.
THE ROAD SPRINGS WERE WRAPPED AND BOUND IN OIL SOAKED RAGS YEARS AGO SO SHOULD STILL BE IN WELL PRESERVED CONDITION, THE CORRECT SPLIT RIM WD ROAD WHEELS ARE STILL FITTED.
THE INTERIOR STILL HAS THE CORRECT RIFLE MOUNTS FITTED AND THE VEHICLE HAS THE ORIGINAL ELEPHANT HIDE SEATS.
THE BODY WORK IS IN EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION WITH ONLY MINOR BLEMISHES, EVEN THE DOOR TOPS AND BOTTOM DOOR FRAMES ARE GOOD AND DO NOT NEED REPLACEMENT.
THE ONLY REAL DEPARTURE FROM ORIGINAL IS THE HARD TOP WHICH HAS HELPED PRESERVE THE VEHICLE , THIS WOULD BE EASILY BE RETURNED TO AN ORIGINAL SOFT TOP.
UNTIL VERY RECENTLY THE VEHICLE HAS SPENT THE MAJORITY OF ITS LIFE STORED UNDER COVER.

LAND DROVER DEFENDER - Abergavenny

LANDROVER  DEFENDER TD5

Chunky wheels, tyres have loads of tred, roof rack, snorkel, rock slider, side steps, winch, lots of lights, nudge bar, power invertor, 50 mm lift.
Owned my landy for 5/6 years reluctant sale but lack of work and lack off cash, it will have to go. Very welcome to try it out and view before bidding. Landy is at NP16 6SL. If you wish to to view or test drive. M.O.T til 8/02/16 and the mileage is 194,170.

Military Land Rover Series 3 FFR 109 24v 24volt 1983

First things first I am only selling "Mator" my series 3 landy because we are buying a house and need the money for a deposit quite frankly after all the blood sweat tears and the hospital visit he caused me I don't want to see him go but they have been well worth it.  This old boy has kept me off of the cigarettes and proved to me what I could use that money for instead although at times he nearly drove me to drink.
This is a unique opportunity in the fact that you can see the whole rebuild from when it was dragged out of a farm yard to the last day I drove it every bit of work done has been documented laughed at and shared across a few of the main Land Rover forums so you can see what I did wrong then put right what has been replaced and rebuilt so you know exactly where you stand with him if you want to buy him.
SO where to start?? He has the military chassis a reconditioned military 2 1/4 petrol engine running 24 volts across the board each and every dent is as it was from when it was demobbed then parked up for the seventeen years before I got him. I did not want to change them or fix them they are part of it's history. I also have the MOD list of who he served with along with the dating letter I had to get for actually registering him for the road for the very first time and what fun that was dealing with the DVLA who it seems have no standardised format for anything it just depends on who you talk to and who opens your mail.
Here is a very short list the following has been done but this really is the abbreviated version as I would run out of space on this listing and you would get bored before getting to the end of it...alternator rebuild, brake system rebuild, master/slave clutch rebuild, new shocks, new gearbox mounts, new exhaust, full fuel system rebuild from tank to carb, undersealed, doors replaced painted and fitted, all fluids replaced and engine serviced. This is no where near everything that has been done please have a look at the blog rebuild at nickysmith.me (Ebay this is very important in selling this Land Rover it is not an advertisement for another website but a link to show the extensive rebuild work that has been done to this motor so please don't pull the ad for having this in thank you because I think you would be more miffed if I copy and paste the whole 200 plus entries into this listing to show what work has been done!) under the "Land Rover rebuild" section for the whole shebang or search for "the project has landed" on the landyzone forum.  I have lost count of the man hours I have put in on him and I will reiterate selling him is not my idea but Wifey wants to buy a house our savings just won't make the cut without a bit of a boost and poor Mator here really is the only thing of value I own because apparently I am not allowed to sell one of each of my four children's kidneys to raise the cash because of some law or other.
I have done about 74 miles only since the rebuild but this will climb a little as I enjoy driving him before on Wifey's command he goes and I loose another little piece of my soul. It is an old landy and I don't doubt it will present a problem or two as time goes on after being stood around for so long and just because it is a Land Rover but as he is at this moment is in great condition fully drivable with his 2 1/4 petrol engine running smoothly and you are welcome to come and view him just send me a message with a contact number in. You are also welcome to a test drive as long as you bring me proof of insurance to be able to drive fully comp or I have the cash from you in my hands...you break him you have bought him!
The only things not to original military spec are the front seats wheels headlights and twin tanks so if you want to put him back to military standard as a collectors piece this would not be very difficult. He is also "Winterised" model so has the whopping great heater sitting between the two front seats which works just fine and you will actually have that unknown oddity of a warm Series Land Rover in the Winter!
So there in a nutshell he is but please come and have a look to see him for yourself and the great condition he is in.  I will weep a little when the new owner drives him away but it seems having rent free bricks and mortar for ten years (if I am lucky) after retirement before we die is more important.  Personally I would rather put on the kids in retirement we have enough of them and why they can't buy a bigger house to accommodate us rent free for a decade or two just like they have had here is beyond me!
I am open to offers of course but I won't be moving very much price wise.  There will be no Part exchanges unless you want to give me a house to live in and there will be no paypal payments accepted on this amount of money it will be a strictly cash only sale.  This is an old old Land Rover and they do like to breakdown on a regular basis at this point in time Mator is running soundly but I have no doubt he will require more tinkering as time goes by as any landy owner will tell you!  So with that in mind this will be a "Sold as Seen" deal only BUT I am very happy for you to arrange for one of the breakdown services to come along and do a vehicle check on him I have nothing at all to hide! in fact I might even bribe them to say it needs some extra bits sorting so I can justify keeping him to Wifey ;)

Series 2A Lightweight Land Rover TDI Immaculate Restoration,Show car,Coil sprung

Series 2A Lightweight Land Rover TDI Immaculate Restoration,Show car,Coil sprung
This car started life as ex military series 2A Lightweight, I wanted the look of the old series 2A but I wanted it to perform and drive like a new defender so I started the full nut and bolt re-build!

I started with a Range Rover classic chassis shortened to 88", sand blasted and galvanised.
The Defender and RR running gear was fully fully stripped down and sand blasted back to bear metal,
undercoated 3 times then painted and rebuilt with EVERYTHING new,
all the bushes, suspension and brakes (refurbished callipers) are new, as well as every nut, bolt, bearing and seal etc.
I have literally hundreds of pictures of the build on a usb, which the winning bidder can have a copy of.

I had to use the original Lightweight bulkhead, which I had replacement footwell professionally welded into.
I also re-designed the layout of the bulkhead to house the new style defender clocks,
and to take the power steering column of a defender, as discreetly as I could.
The rest of the body was fully stripped down to the aluminium and the underside of the body painted before fitting it.
I had all the external rails etc re-galvanised.

I bought a 200tdi with LT77 gear box out of a known defender, which is a nice engine, it pulls like a train and never misses a beat.
I gave it a full service and new clutch before putting it in the car.
The only problem with the 200 tdi was getting it in the series 2A engine bay,
however after some tricky engineering everything sat perfectly in place and the only major change was,
moving the intercooler to the top of the engine block, hence the scoop on the bonnet.
The bumper and the bumperettes were measured perfectly and commissioned by a good friends fabrication company.
I had a bespoke full stainless steel exhaust fitted which is a work of art.
Once the body was on and painted I fitted all brand new lights and a defender indicator stalk fitted to the steering column.
I paid a auto electrician to make and install a new wiring loom for the engine and lights etc,
which was a real impressive job once completed.

This car really has to be seen to be appreciated, every single little detail has been thought about and finished to the highest level.
After finishing the car I took it to a Land Rover show and won first prize, on the Lightweight stand.
I also had it featured on the front cover of LRO magazine and a 6 page feature inside on my build.
Since then it has been under a sheet in my garage as my pride and joy,
using it only on odd occasions in summer, or a friends wedding.
It has never got dirty or been out in the wet.
BUT regrettably i think i want to sell it ... ??

But life moves on and things such as houses take over, so this sale is a head and heart situation,
my partner says sell it and my heart says keep it.

Guess who won..

I am a massive perfectionist, this car took me over 4 years to do, nothing was rushed or bodged,
no corners cut everything is perfect. It is a one off and wow's everybody.

As you can imagine it is hard to write a advert on a project that has taken hundreds of hours to finish
and had everything new so here is to mention a few.

- Defender gear box and running gear
- Galvanised chassis
- Power steering
- Classic look, but drives like new
- 19" predator wheels
- New doors with glass and seals
- Refurbished locks
- New series 2A vent panel (took me 6 months to find)
- TAX EXEMPT
- MOT - D ready to drive
- Mini leather sports steering wheel
- Bespoke lockable cubby box, with built in radio
- Built in speakers
- The bulkhead was fully sound proofed with led matting before carpeting
- Original 2A heater plumbed into the cab
 - Sun visor
- All the electrics are perfect i.e window wipers etc
- Range Rover classic fuel filler cap, discreetly fitted on the outside of the car to save filling your tank under the seat.
- Only bad point is one slight bit of bubbling with the paintwork around the scoop on the bonnet,
I have a tin of the original paint, the bonnet could be repainted or a different bonnet with no scoop could be fitted.
This is minuscule, but I am a perfectionist.

1974 LAND ROVER 109 V8 CONVERSION - PROJECT NEARLY FINISHED. EX MILITARY

1974 LAND ROVER 109 V8 CONVERSION - PROJECT NEARLY FINISHED. EX MILITARY

Land rover Series 3 Ex Military: General purpose 3/4 ton chassis truck, heavy duty chassis, HD Overdrive, wing reinforcements, longer seat leg room. Originally a 2.25 petrol engine but now fitted with a 3.5 Rover v8 engine. The engine conversion has been done with no expense spared, there are many new parts I will try and list below.

No tax, No MOT, Sorned in August last year (Last MOT no advisories!)

Complete V5, still registered with the 2.25 petrol as I never got round to changing it. Easy to do, simply send off the relevant section with new engine details. I am not sure of the mileage, the clock only shows 14,000 miles but I believe this has been replaced at some point.

Some history of the Land Rover

Manufactured: 7 March 1974

Despatched 14 March to central depot Ashchurch

Condition

Chassis is the original, fully under sealed and in excellent solid condition for age. A few repairs here and there but all appear to be done properly and are solid. Front and rear cross members in superb condition.

The body work is in very good condition, re-painted in army colours about a year and a half ago.

The bulkhead is a modified defender bulkhead to accommodate S3 brakes, throttle, windscreen hinges etc. The bulkhead is rock solid with absolutely no rust at all!!! The bulkhead has also been modified and widened to accommodate the Rover v8 engine.

Gearbox axles and drive train: The gearbox selects all gears excellently, no crunching or jumping out of gear. The overdrive works excellently and is really useful when on the move. The axles have recently been serviced with new prop shaft seal to the front axle as was weeping. Prop shafts in good condition and regularly greased. The land rover also has freewheeling hubs to help the economy.

clutch: The clutch friction plate and pressure plate have been replaced with new. Because of the engine conversion a series 2A 9.5" pressure plate has been used. The clutch thrust bearing has also been replaced with a brand new one. I also replaced the clutch master cylinder and the clutch slave cylinder with new parts.

Brakes: The brakes are in good working order, with nearly new drums and shoes on the rear. I had the land rover on the road around 8 months ago and it stopped brilliantly.

Tyres: Tyres are all in very good condition.

Canvas: The canvas has been recently sealed and is water proof, condition is average overall for age.

The Conversion

I pulled the original engine out in August last year to make way for the Rover v8. The Rover v8 starts well and runs fairly well, HOWEVER, the head gasket/s appear to have gone! Please see video link below to land rover running. These will need replacing, its not a difficult job to do, just needs two gaskets (£20 for a pair) and a new set of head bolts (£30) and a little time. The engine is making good oil pressure (smiths oil pressure gauge fitted). The land rover has been sat for a few months now so could do with a good tune up. All parts removed were cleaned, repaired, repainted and resealed as appropriate. All bolts have been replaced with new ones to make maintenance easier in the future.

Bad Bits / bits to finish

·         Brake lights / indicator lights wiring loom need replacing / repair as it has unfortunately shorted out on something and melted part of the loom. This will require splicing / replacing with new. (see photo)

·         Head gaskets need replacing  - see video of land rover running -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_l_OTmv2XIk&feature=youtu.be

·         General Land Rover TLC (bit of paint etc here and there)

Otherwise it is ready for its MOT test. This Land rover only needs a couple more jobs doing to it and then it is ready for the summer!! It is amazing fun to drive with the canvas off and the v8 growling!

CLASSIC LAND ROVER SERIES 2A 1961 88" SWB 4X4 PRIVATE PLATE RARE 1960'S TRAILER

CLASSIC LAND ROVER SERIES 2A 1961 88" SWB 4X4 PRIVATE PLATE RARE 1960'S TRAILER

LAND ROVER SERIES 2 88" SWB
                           2.25L PETROL STATION WAGON
                           £2K PRIVATE PLATE + TRAILER

1961, THIS LOVELY OLD CHAP ARRIVED WITH US IN PART EXCHANGE RECENTLY, YOU MAY WELL HAVE SEEN IT ADVERTISED ON E-BAY BY THE LAST OWNER, ALTHOUGH HE WAS BOMBARDED WITH PHONE CALLS, OFFERS AND PART EXCHANGES WE HAD ALREADY SHOOK HANDS ON A DEAL THAT SAW HIM DRIVE AWAY IN AN AMERICAN CONVERTIBLE WE HAD.

"WE PURCHASED IT TO TAKE TO SUMMER SHOWS AND NEEDED IT RELIABLE SO BRAKES, SHOCKS, BATTERY AND BOTH THE CLUTCH MASTER AND SLAVE CYLINDERS WE ALL REPLACED AND OVERHAULED ALONG WITH NEW OIL, ANTIFREEZE AND WIPERS". HIS WIFE WASN'T TOO KEEN ON DRIVING IT HENCE THE 'ABOUT TURN' TO SOMETHING BIG, SOFT AND COMFORTABLE BUT STILL SUITABLE FOR THERE PASSION FOR CLASSIC CAR SHOWS.

THIS 1961 SERIES HAS THE 2WD INTO 4WD WITH FAIREY FREE WHEELING HUBS AND LEATHER GAITERS ON THE FRONT AXLE, IT'S BELIEVED TO BE AN EX ROYAL NAVY VEHICLE WITH TWIN FUEL TANKS, REAR BENCH SEATING AS WELL AS FRONT & REAR TOWBALL'S PLUS ELECTRIC ON THE REAR. NOT ALL PERIOD, LATER EDITION LIGHTS, UPGRADED AND MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE RECLINING FRONT SEATS, LATER WHEELS (THOUGH IF YOU REQUIRE THE ORIGINAL STEELS WE HAPPEN TO HAVE A SET OF THESE FOR SALE), AND THE ORIGINAL LIGHTER BLUE IT ONCE WAS HAS BEEN CHANGED TO A ROYAL BLUE, HAND PAINTED!.. A NICE FEATURE IS THE HEADLINING WHICH IS A CONDENSATION REPELLENT FABRIC, NO WET SCALPS OR NECK IN THIS ONE. LATER WING MIRRORS GIVING GOOD VISIBILITY AND AN IMPROVED CARBURETTOR SET UP ALL ADD TO A MORE USABLE AND REFINED (IF I CAN BE SO BOLD TO USE THAT STATEMENT) DRIVING EXPERIENCE. ALL THE ORIGINAL LAND ROVER REAR BADGES REMAIN, AND A VINTAGE BADGE BAR WITH AA/ RAC/ BP/ LAND ROVER OWNERS CLUB AND ST. CHRISTOPHER'S ADORNING IT ALONG WITH ORIGINAL WIPAC SPOT LIGHTS. CHEQUER PLATE ADDS TO THE APPEAL AND IT REALLY DOES LOOK AN EYEFUL WITH THE COLOUR COLOUR CODED (AND FULLY REFURBISHED) TRAILER IS HITCHED ON, THIS IS A ONE MAN OPERATION AND IT IS VERY EASY TO MANOEUVRE. THE OWNER WAS IN CONVERSATION WITH A KNOWLEDGEABLE CHAP FROM BEAULIEU WHO BELIEVES THIS IS A RARE 1960'S MODEL, THE ONLY LATER ADDITION IS THE NEW COVER. THE PRIVATE PLATE WHICH IS TRANSFERABLE HAD A WRITTEN VALUATION OF £2,000, BAS 309, AT THE MOMENT THE PLATE AND TRAILER WILL BE SOLD WITH THE VEHICLE.

THE SERIES ITSELF IS VERY SOLID UNDERSIDE AND ABOVE, IT IS VERY PRESENTABLE 'AS IT IS', WHETHER YOU DECIDE TO RETURN IT TO PERIOD FEATURES, OR RE-PAINT, OR LEAVE EXACTLY AS SHE IS BUT PLEASE BARE THIS IN MIND AS IT IS NOT A BARGAINING TOOL TO US ON US. IT DRIVES VERY WELL FOR ITS YEARS, TYPICAL 'LIKE STEERING A RUNAWAY SHIP' HANDLING, BUT COMFORTABLY CRUISES AT A SENSIBLE SPEED AND EVEN THE HEATERS WORK AS WELL. SINCE LAST ADVERTISED BY THE OWNER OUR LAND ROVER CHAP HAS GIVEN IT A LITTLE MORE TLC (THE KIND THAT YOU SPEND AT LEAST £1,000 AT A MAIN AGENT), AND ITS LAST MOT TEST SHOWED NO ADVISORIES, THIS RUNS UNTIL APRIL 29TH 2015.

AS A FULLY RESTORED EXAMPLE IT'S WORTH A SMALL FORTUNE, AND THIS IS A GOOD BASIS TO START, OR SIMPLY USE AND ENJOY AS IT IS. THE LOG BOOK STATES IT'S A 1600CC, IT'S NOT (EVEN WE KNOW THAT ENGINE IS GOLD DUST). ALL OFFICIAL DOCUMENTATION IS HERE WITH US, PREVIOUS MOT'S, SOME SERVICING BILLS, COPIES OF PREVIOUS LOG BOOKS AND TAX DISCS, TOOL KIT PRESENT PLUS TOWING PLATES. THE SPEEDO INDICATES 17,629 MILES BUT JUST TO BE SAFE, ASSUME IT IS 117,629 MILES.

NOW THEN! WE DON'T MIND 'CLIPBOARDS AND OVERALLS' INSPECTIONS AS LONG AS YOU ARE A REALISTIC SORT OF FELLOW, AND WE WILL ENTERTAIN THE POSSIBILITY OF A PART EXCHANGE AS LONG AS YOU DON'T TRY AND QUOTE US "PARKERS GUIDE" OR "I SAW ONE LIKE MINE ON A MAIN AGENT FORECOURT ADVERTISED AT £££!". SO THERE WE ARE! SHE LOOKS GOOD, DRIVES WELL, PRIVATE PLATE, TRAILER AND ALL! READY TO BE ENJOYED BY ITS NEW OWNER.

YOUR CAR/ 4WD MIGHT BE CONSIDERED IN PART EXCHANGE, ALL AS PER EBAY'S RULES OF COURSE (I.E YOU BUY MINE WE MAY BUY YOURS), AND WE WILL VALUE YOURS AT OUR SENSIBLE TRADE IN PRICE. SHOULD YOU REQUIRE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION PLEASE CONTACT MARTIN DIRECT ON 07970 466748/ 01202 813761 OR JORDAN ON 07816915125

Viewing and test drive most welcome, I am available days or evenings, but all strictly by appointment only. I would say that probably 70% of my stock sells before the end of E-bay classified/auction, either to quick thinking serious buying E-bayers, or via other forms of advertising and recommendation, therefore I do reserve the right to withdraw the vehicles from sale.
please! if you are going to ring me with an offer and i accept that offer, back it up, i have lost count of the number of people who once having agreed a price with me, then never show up. i am an honorable decent chap and simply expect the same from others.
I do prefer to speak to prospective purchasers direct, I believe you can get a much better idea of who you are dealing with by phone, besides I'm hopeless on the keyboard!. But either is OK. Any other concerns or questions you have please don't hesitate to get in touch.
All the best. Good luck and perhaps we'll speak with you soon.
