Very early 1958 Series 2 II Land Rover SWB 88" barn find restoration project Possibly the earliest series 2 in existence number 313

Sellers Comments - Land Rover Series 2 1958 This is number 313 off the production line so could possibly be the earliest series 2 in existence. I bought this with the intention of restoring it to its former glory. However my misses has decided to put a stop to that with the announcement of another baby, cheers! I have never had it running but the engine does turn over and the gear lever moves between the gears. The clutch and brake pedals are seized but it does roll freely. Bulkhead has rusted, mainly around the door hinges. Chassis has rusted all over. Bodywork looks fairly straight, paintwork is tatty. The number plate has been valued at £1,200 This was to be my first Land Rover project so although I'm no expert I will do my best to answer any questions. Please feel free to contact me via email or phone to arrange a viewing.

1958 Land Rover Series 1 Station Wagon

Sellers Comments - What can I say? This is a tired but Rare Series 1 Station Wagon with a later 2.25L Petrol engine installed and is in the condition as per photos. Chassis and bulkhead are not rotten and are in remarkably good shape - except for rear crossmember. Missing rear bench seat and two folding seats (ones shown in pics are not part of the auction as they belong to another vehicle). Engine turns over, but petrol is old and stale. Can be put on the road with very little work, but will take a fair bit of effort to make her look perfect! Purchased recently and imported as a restoration project and I would love to keep it but circumstances have changed and have to raise funds for home renovation instead. Will come with V5 and UK plates. Will need to be transported away.

1958 2 x Wheel Drive Series One Land Rover

This is a very rare opportunity to become the proud owner of this lovingly restored Series One Land Rover which has been in my family for 25 years. There were only 80 of these in the two wheel drive format ever made, & they were used as Military Staff cars. It has been restored for 5 years. It has an 88 inch pickup cab which is in excellent condition for it's age. The chassis is in excellent, original condition with no repairs. The panels are all original. It has new tyres, brakes & suspension. At present it is fitted with a 2.25 series 2A engine & gearbox, but the original ones are here waiting to be restored & fitted. All original engine, gearbox & chassis numbers match the date January 1958. The production of the Series One ended in February 1958 so this is one of the last ever to be produced. This is a Private Sale.

Landrover Series One (1) 1958 88 inch

First registered 09-Jan-58 10 owners from new.
I purchased this hardtop series 1 Landy in 2012 with the intention of doing a complete restoration and converting to soft-top. I got it running and MOT tested with no advisories. I started to acquire some parts I knew I would need, these included new period seats (which I fitted as it had tatty defender seats) and a new galvanised hood frame and canvas (not fitted but included in the sale). Unfortunately, time, moving house, age, and more recently personal mobility problems have conspired against me and the Landy now has to live outside in a seaside climate with me having little prospect of ever getting the restoration done. So it would be far better for this vehicle to be taken on by someone else to preserve/restore and use.
Description.

I’ll try to be as honest as I can with this and I am happy for prospective purchasers to view and inspect by prior arrangement. The main issue with the vehicle at the moment is exposed and non-galvanised steelwork (chassis wheels, fittings etc) does not like the sea air environment and is generally acquiring surface rust. This clearly does not help the appearance and needs attention and protection. It will need some attention before putting it on the road but this should be relatively straightforward.

Land Rover 88 Series 2 Petrol SWB 1958 N/R - No Reserve

This is in a very original and unmolested condition with great patina featuring, as far as we can tell, all of the original features of the early series 2.
Registered in 1959 it's both MOT and tax exempt.
Odometer is showing 23k miles which is believed to be original.

It starts on the button... runs, drives well and has been in regular use.

Chassis is in excellent condition and does not need any welding.
Could probably do with a set or tyres.

Please remember this is a 59 year old un-restored Land Rover so please look at the pictures carefully and be realistic with your expectations.
If you have any questions or would like to view, do so before you bid.

NO RESERVE

SERIES ONE 1958 - For Sale Auction

Sellers Comments - My series 1 ,for sale as I have one to many and not a lot of spare time, I purchased this one last Feb from a gentleman in Hereford and promptly drove it home to Southampton despite the gentlemen's reservations ,it got me home ,great fun but a little scary on the motorways as these are no racing cars. Whilst driving newly acquired vehicles I like to see what it is I have actually brought ,I needed to do a little fettling but in general it was a good purchase ,I set about making some changes , brake reline, stainless exhaust , replace shocks, new seats, new wheels and tyres ,when I registered this in my name I put the colour down as green as that is what I wanted to make it however I haven't got that far as yet, there is evidence that this was probably a fire tender when it was born evident with all the red under the blue, a good solid chassis ,straight panels on parabolic springs with a 2.25 petrol engine this is allround fun motoring a great appreciating classic, tax and mot exempt. no paypal on this purchase please, delivery can be arranged ,please ask for costs. will consider reasonable offers.

Land Rover Series 1 - Barn Find 1958

Sellers Comments -  1958 88" inch wheelbase land rover series one , as you can see its a restoration
project , i rescued this from a farm local to me where it had been standing for some years
its an ex trailer and has some period mods still fitted
LOGBOOK PRESENT

ENGINE is a series 3 unit , has had a lot of money spent on it in the past , it does run with fresh
petrol and some bypassing of the wiring, it will need new plugs/points ect ....

GEARBOX is from a series 2a , it does move and at the very least 1st and reverse move the vehicle

AXLES are both series 2a , i have not had the drums off so do not know the condition ,
one of the mods are strenthened cases and guards welded to the diff pans to glance off rocks

BODYWORK is in reasonable condtion , , the doors are exellent , the rear tub did have
damage but is mostly straight , inside is all good and the bulkhead is very good only needing
minor repairs , the wings are reasonable but not brilliant and the drivers is missing its skin,
there are roof sticks present but no roof, the rollcage has been removed and is not available

I do have some history including the trialing logbook with pictures from years ago ,
mileage on MOT database showing 12,000 miles if i rember correctly but will check that

this vehicle is not drivable as clutch cylinder is leaking , have started it in gear
to move it and it does move by itself , no seized wheels, the steering box is not fully fitted
but if i have time i will do this before buyer collects , if not its easy enough to move

the vehicle is currently in RED , the white pictures are taken from the front of the
trials logbook to give you an idea of what it was

any questions please ask

Land Rover Series 2 II 1958 88" Orig 2.0 Petrol Somerset Fire Tender Reg 830 BYC

Sellers Comments - This is exceeding rare on two accounts. The 1st that is a very early Series 2 Chassis number 141801096. The 2nd that it was supplied to Somerset Fire Brigade when new for use as a fire tender. It has its original 2.0 engine number 141805482 which runs well. Only approx 1700 Series 2's were fitted with this engine due to the new 2.25 engines being in short supply. Up to date V5 document present and reg number is transferable but that would ruin the history of the vehicle! Comes with lots of Fire brigade paperwork which is great. - Additional Photos - Details

1958 Land Rover 3.9 V8 4x4 5speed manual Lightweight tax & MOT exempt Range 88" Coil springs, disc brakes, 4 pot callipers SU carbs PAS

Sellers Comments - Fully sorted, totally reliable and extremely fun and fast car, fully road legal, great on or off road, drive away!

The car started life as a very early series 2, the year of cross over between series 1 to series 2. At some point in its history before my ownership and before the previous owner’s time (a farmer from North Wale i bought the car from), it was converted to Range Rover permanent 4 wheel drive with Range Rover 5 speed manual box (LT77) and 3.5 litre V8 engine, coil springs and disc brakes and Range Rover axles and it even benefits from lovely Range Rover power steering! What a bonus! Later on in its long evolution it has been upgraded to a very sweet 1990 3.9 litre V8 with electronic ignition from a Range Rover auto, but having the efi removed and replaced with the Solex carburettors and manifold from the earlier V8 engine.

I didn’t like the Solex carburettors so replaced them with very nice tuned SU hif44s from an sd1 race car. The car comes wearing special bodywork mostly from a series 2 military lightweight air portable Land Rover which has been adapted. The bonnet has been lengthened very nicely to fit over the V8 engine with the Range Rover radiator in the correct position in front of the viscous fan! The bulkhead has been modified to make room for the V8 and 5 speed conversion but it has been done very nicely and is in excellent condition. The car comes with comfy and very supportive seats which are adjustable for tilt and with adjustable headrests, I don’t know what they came from originally. Fuel tank is in the rear tub as it was obviously built for off road racing, but if i was keeping the car i would move the tank back below the tub to make the space more useful and fit a couple of rear seats!

The car retains steering column ignition switch/steering lock but the ‘start’ function has been moved from the column switch to a fighter plane type start button in the middle of the dash, you still need the ignition key to turn the ignition power on though. The car always starts instantly first press of the start button! It idles happily and is very reliable but goes like stink when you gas it!

The car also has a one off made to measure wrap around nudge bar that goes all the way round from in front of the car, down the line of the front wings down to rock sliders along the bottom of the door line, this is all very strong and very secure.

Lighting is taken care of very rare beautiful vintage Cibie dipping Oscars which take proper h4 bulbs.

Everything works as it should, it goes stops and steers perfectly, it goes link stink, makes a lovely noise but quite civilised, not as Mad Max as it looks. Keeps very good temperature even in London traffic, never over heats, needle always right in the middle of the lovely Smiths guage. The car gets lots of attention on the road and people even smile and wave, not what you generally get much of driving a ‘normal’ around London!

I do have the original lightweight military doors for the car but they are pretty scruffy and i much prefer driving the car without the doors, likewise i do have a series 2 full length hard roof also in scruffy condition but perfectly usable if you want it. I have the roof and doors dismantled if you want them but i bought the car for summer fun but am selling it now as an unexpected opportunity arose to buy back my old TVR and i jumped at the opportunity, so sadly the Land Rover has to go, sadly I just can’t afford to keep both.

I will be away until 5th September so the winner (and winner would be the correct term for whoever gets this lovely car) will either have to wait until then to collect or must pay the total to my bank account and when I see that the funds are in, the winner can then collect the keys, car and log book (in my name) from my neighbour who will be storing the car until I return. I will require a £500 deposit at the end of the auction.

1958 SERIES 2 SHORT WHEEL BASE LAND ROVER

She is a 1958 series 2 I have been told the first year of the series 2 which is quite rare, it is tax and mot exempt, I only originally bought it to run around in whilst I was looking for a new pick up truck unexpectedly I became very fond of the old girl she is my first land rover and only for sale as I have no garage at the moment and I don't want to see her sat for years while I set about building a garage to restore her in.  I purchased her in 2009 off a good friend of mine who is land rover mad he bought it off someone he knew who I believe was selling because he was emigrating.  These are the 3 owners on the V5 since June 1958 it has a 2.5 Sherpa diesel engine which has been very reliable it has always smoked, I drove her here when I moved home 2 Christmas's ago but now she refuses to start at all so now she is a non runner I did fully intend to restore her and even purchased a 200 tdi engine from a defender to put in her which can be purchased separately if required.  She has a series 3 gear box which is not fantastic I was going to replace it, axles, brakes, etc all ok I was going to use the original chassis as it is so good it needs a very easy repair to the rear cross member to make it sound it didn't seem justifiable to buy a galvanised chassis when this one is so good.  The bulk head is also pretty good its had a couple of poor repairs where your feet go I was going to cut these out and repair properly the doors are past their sell by date and need replacing  there is one new door top included also a split window screen and some spare wheels and tyres.
The interior has also passed its sell by date but she does have a good fairy overdrive and free wheeling hubs so I have tried to cover everything.  You are welcome to contact me if you want to come and view or any questions but to put it in a nutshell for repairs or total restoration, she does need a lot of work but it will be worth it.  I won't be sad if she doesn't sell she will just have to wait for her restoration.
