The Land Rover Defender is an off-road vehicle produced under this name by the British manufacturer, Land Rover, since 1991. However, the vehicle is the direct heir of the first Land Rover that made its debut in 1948. The first prototype was built by the British automaker in 1947 and it was designed for the army. This iconic car was improved over the years and it has been known for generations as a national treasure.

Land Rover Series 2A Pick Up SWB 1966
Sellers Comments -
It is fitted with the Rover 21/4 Diesel engine.
Declared manufactured 1966 it was assigned to the Army and was decommissioned and first registered with its current registration in 1976
Classed as an historic vehicle it is tax free. It’s very cheap to insure through a specialist company.
It’s been my daily local runabout and great fun to drive. Milage is 62700 but will go up slightly as I us the vehicle most days.
I have fitted many new parts during the 6 years that I have owned it these being as follows:
- Complete exhaust
- Four general grabber AT2 tyres
- Four steel wheel rims
- Door tops
- Light Lenses
- Pedal covers
- Wipers arms and blades
- Fan Belt
- Water hoses
- Parallel diesel injector system
- Heavy duty battery
- Alternator
- Break linings & fluid
- Drive shaft
- Fresh air intake rubber seals
It’s an ongoing project as they all are but I don’t have the time anymore so I need to let it go
The canvas has just been waterproofed but there are some splits in the plastic window parts and the window parts are now opaque.
Engine oil, (with Lucas additive), Gearbox and Transfer case oil, (with moly slip), and oil in the axels and hubs, (free wheeling), were changed last year.
At the last MOT my mechanic said it was solid underneath which it passed without any advisories. MOT until December 2017
At high speed the vehicle tends to wander a little which suggests the steering needs adjustment but I will leave that to the new owner. It was obviously checked at MOT and was okay to pass.
Every fall it gets a spray of fine oil/white spirit mix underneath to help keep it sealed and in good order for winter.
Cylinder head was removed, cleaned and a new gasket fitted 3 years ago. During this work it was noted that at some point the diesel pump would need replacing but it has been working fine so I have never bothered.
There is an inherent oil leak which came with the vehicle, sometimes it drips, sometimes it doesn’t, I simply check and top up as required.
All previous MOT’s present
Small file of receipts etc
Extras include:
- Two sets of keys for both doors and ignition
- Two Haynes manuals one petrol and one diesel
- Fire extinguisher fitted
- Clarion remote control radio cassette fitted, (radio needs an ariel)
- Small 9 piece tool kit in cloth roll
- Wheel brace and sockets
- Trolley Jack
- Vintage 20L Gerry Can
- Grease Gun + 2 new grease cartridges
- Oil Filler pump for axels
- Box of assorted fuses
- Touch up paint
You are welcome to come and view and I can give you a test drive. I offer no warranty on this vehicle and no guarantee is offered or implied. Strictly sold as seen. Positively no cash offers so don’t waste your time and mine. I am after a yank or two seat roadster so may swap WHY.

FRS 312D......Series 2A Land Rover...first registered 01 September 1966. V5 present and in my name.
Fitted with WORKING OVERDRIVE.
2.25 petrol engine.
SMITHS circular heater fitted.
Original sprung steering wheel is included in sale...worth £100+.
Last used on the road in December 2013. This is when the last mot expired. It just needed a plate welded on the chassis around the passenger side front outrigger........but this never got done and has been barn stored since ! SO ONLY OFF ROAD FOR just over 3 years.
Please come and have a look whilst the auction is running.
Put new battery on today and some fresh petrol and it fired into life running sweetly on all four cylinders.
Clutch, footbrakes working and just had a quick drive around my farmyard. Handbrake just about holds, but will need adjusting/tightening.
Very good 235/85 R16s tyres fitted all round and the spare in the back on the bigger LR wheels.
Free wheeling front hubs fitted.
New exhaust silencer and rear pipe fitted for last mot in 2013.
38,208 miles showing....so must be 138,000 !
County style seats in cab, but have rips. No bench seats in rear, but these are cheap enough new.
PLEASE STUDY THE PICTURES, THEY GIVE A VERY HONEST VIEW.
Both side footwells have small holes so will need an easy plate or repair whole section. Not a big job.
Needs the plate welding as stated earlier, near the passenger side front outrigger.
Needs small repair to passenger side bulkhead top around upper door hinge, as clearly shown in picture.

Land Rover Series IIA 1966 88"
Sellers Comments Tax Exempt 2.5 Diesel V5 Present 11 previous owners MOT until 1st November 2017 No advisories It is road worthy and I very occasionally used, the last 3 years it has been a donkey to carry stuff around when I needed it to. It is running a 1996 Transit DI Engine and gearbox which has just had cam belt, water pump and filters changed. Rear wheel drive only. Just had a recon injector pump cost costing £600 It has a good chassis and has been a very reliable vehicle. Tyres are less than a year old Has had repairs but as you can see in the pictures is showing its age on the door pillars and the bulk head, I have had plates welded in and filled Needs handbrake hub and shoes Its a great truck but I do not have the time to restore it and no longer have the need or space for it. Just bear in mind that it is 50 years old so the fuel guage and speedo don't work , I just wait for the light to flash up on the dashboard to tell me I need fuel. Steering wanders , always has. As with all Land Rovers it marks its territory. Had a recent paint job, looks better in the photos than close up. Sensible offers only, no tyre kickers Advertised elsewhere so may end early.

1966 Series IIA 2A Land Rover LWB 109 Station Wagon Safari
Sellers Comments
Wonderful and very rare genuine Series IIA 109 Station Wagon. First registered 05/04/1966.
Will be sold with fresh MOT, ready to drive!
She drives very well, far better than my SWB Series IIA.
The chassis and bulkhead are original and serviceable. She passed her last MOT without advisories and I will put a fresh MOT on her prior to sale.
The odometer reads 41823, but that rarely means much when it comes to old Land Rovers.
The interior retains the hard to find Station Wagon “luxuries” such as door cards, headlining, roof vents, fold-away second row seats and padded bench seats in the boot. She seats 12. The front row seats are fitted with seatbelts which appear to be original.
The Land Rover retains a high degree of originality. There are some special features such as a dash mounted hand throttle (presumably for operating the PTO take-off). Some alterations have been made over the years:
- Converted from diesel to petrol 2.25 litre engine
- Halogen headlamps
- Repainted in a slightly brighter shade of blue
- 8 spoke wheels (including spare)
I bought this Land Rover in October 2016 and have since realised I don’t have time to enjoy her. My short ownership is not a reflection on the car in any way. This is an honest and very rare 109 Station Wagon in driving condition that can be used as-is or as a worthy candidate of a rolling restoration. She had been in the ownership of the chap I bought her from for 35 years. He shed a tear when I drove her away! He had just been deprived of his drivers license due to old age but had been using the Land Rover as a weekend driver right up until that point. The most recent MOT certificate shows that the car was driven a couple of hundred miles a year – regular but minimal usage. When I bought her in October I drove her home to Oxfordshire from Leicestershire without a hitch. I didn’t get round to insuring her and since then have just driven her up and down a private lane every other week to keep the seals lubricated and blow away the cobwebs.
The car comes with a large file of old MOT certificates and invoices dating back to the early ’80s and possibly beyond – I haven’t had time to go through them all. She appears to have been maintained lovingly, with money spent regularly. During my brief ownership I fitter new sparkplugs, distributor cap and rotor arm. She fires up first time and runs smoothly.
Being a genuine 12 Seater Station Wagon this car is classed by DVLA as a minibus and I am told exempt from the London Congestion Charge. She is obviously fully exempt from Road Tax. Comprehensive classic car insurance costs me £130 a year for my SWB and would be similar for this car. Parts availability is among the best of any classic and these are inexpensive cars to maintain.
This Land Rover was originally registered in April 1966 with the license plate GUT967D, but the previous owner had her transferred to a private plate. Before selling her to me she was reregistered with DVLA on an age appropriate plate OGU703D.
Any inspection welcome.
Hugo 07908 250638
Please note, the Land Rover is advertised elsewhere so I reserve the right to remove this listing early.

Land Rover Series 2a 1966 - Chessington
Sellers Comments - Welcome to the sale of my 1966 series 2a Land Rover. I bought this vehicle on a whim for a bit of nostalgia and to take my German Shepherd to the woods in. However after finally managing to get her in she was really nervous all the way and now won't go anywhere near it hence I have decided to cut my losses and put it back on the market. I have only owned this Landy for around a month and have only done about 5 miles in it. I am no expert on these vehicles but will list all the bits I can think of.
Good Points.
Vehicle is historic so tax free (yeah)
Chassis looks really sound although it has had welding done in the past it would appear that it is all to a good standard.
A brand new Webber carburetor has been fitted.
The brakes have been completely overhauled with new wheel cylinders, master cylinder and pipework and the vehicle stops really well.
All light fittings are new.
The taup or hood is brand new.
It has been upgraded with parabolic springs and new shock absorbers + diff guards.
The top steering bush has been replaced as it was worn.
All the gears seem to hold nicely with no dropping out, at least on my short trip.
MOT until April 2017
Bad Points
For some reason the engine oil pressure light comes on!!!
Steering is a bit heavy but then it does have big off road tyre's fitted
There are a few dink's and small dents which I suppose is quite normal for a vehicle 50 years old.

1966 Land Rover Series 2a 109
2.25 petrol, ex-military, tax exempt.
There are 29,400 miles on the clock, the gearchange is very precise and the 4x4 system works as it should.
I’ve owned this Land Rover for 6 years, and have recently refurbished the running gear and paintwork.
The previous owner intended to fit a 200 Tdi engine at some point, so they fitted the front panels from a Defender to give extra space for the installation. The vehicle also has a hardtop, one-piece screen and seats from a Defender, with inertia reel seatbelts on the two outer seats (lap belt on the centre seat). The rear door is also from a Defender & has a rear screen demister element (not wired in).
I’ve recently replaced the clutch slave cylinder and all the wheel cylinders and brake shoes, and fitted new parabolic leaf springs to the rear. The front leaf springs are in good condition. It also has a new water pump and engine service items (points & condenser and spark plugs). It is fitted with an electric fan instead of the standard viscous fan.
All the electrics work, with the exception of the panel back-light. The door tops are in good condition, although the sliding window rail needs replacing on the passenger side. The chassis and bulkhead are solid.
It passed its MOT in mid-March with just one advisory (the traditional Land Rover ‘oil leak’, which was a weep from the sump plug). I’ve covered a little over 100 miles since then without any trouble.
I’ll put a fresh MOT on the vehicle for the new owner.
The Land Rover is in Shipley, West Yorkshire, and can be viewed at any time.

Series 1 Land Rover 1966 - Project Restoration
88 inch, Series 1 Land Rover. Vehicle for restoration needs - bulkhead repairs, floor repairs, chassis repairs, wing mirrors need replacing, as do the rubber seals around the windows and doors. Currently there are two seats from the front missing. Wiper motor works by hand. There is only one bonnet catch (near side one present). Near side rear is bent, and has been since brought due to rear cross member being hit at some point before ownership. There are two free wheeling hubs (on the two front wheels). Gauges and switches are in tact. Vehicle electrics haven't been checked. Two of the windows are cracked, (back near side window, off side window by tailgate). Engine is diesel not petrol as sated on the paper work. Engine size is 2.25cc. Engine turns over by hand, with compression. Has not been run since owned, have owned since 2011. At present I have the V5C, Notification of SORN, Old copies of MOT's and Log Books. One of the Log Books states that it was registered in 1955. Chassis number was checked on the internet which shows manufacturer to be in 1957. Vehicle is road registered in 1966, after being used by the military.

Land Rover Series 2a 1966 rare catflap Hardtop - Star of ITV Heartbeat & The Royal - Used in Filming
Sellers Comments - Having a garage clear-out of yet another project that i will never get around to doing Series 2a SWB Landrover 1966 Previously starred in ITV's Heartbeat and The Royal as a Police and Coastguard vehicle TV camera brackets still fitted inside and the vintage acorn shape blue flashing light is included for those wishing to retain its TV status Originally green but was painted in two different blues for TV work. Needs restoration/refurbishment Previous owner purchased it direct from the TV production company and told me that the mileage of 26000 was correct but I'd take that with a large pinch of salt for a 50-year-old vehicle Last MOT was 3 years ago when it failed on the rear cross member needing a patch which was never done and it has stood in my barn since then Was running and driving without issue but expect the usual work needed with an old Land Rover which has been stood unused for a few years V5 in my name, located 15 miles outside Inverness, cash on collection only.
1966 Series 2a 109 safari - Restoration Project
Here for sale is a 1966 series 109 genuine safari... I bought if off my parents neighbour along with a range rover classic, he is moving house and no longer wants it. It's been stood for for a good 15+ year. It will require a full rebuild/restoration onto a new chassis as it is fairly rotten... but still in one pice. The body is in great shape and is fully saveable. I was going to brake her for parts but I'd rather see it go to someone who will love to get her back on the road. I would do it my self but i have a big land rover project on the go. Off the top of my head it had only done 40000 odd miles but I'd have to confirm this later.. I will be pulling her out over the next week and giving it a bit of a clean up.. Cash on collection

1966 LAND ROVER 88" - 4 CYL PETROL GREEN SERIES 2a SWB RAGTOP (Tax exempt) May part exhange for great Range Rover V8 P38 or L322
Here we have 'Gizmo' my 50 year old (tax exempt) Landrover Series 2a. As I write this I am still not 100 percent sure i want him to go, but I am opting for a Range Rover V8 (need a longer distance vehicle) so I would consider a very clean p/x or p/x with cash either way. I know the P38 and L322 faults so would have to be free of those to be considered.
I have owned him for the last year and spent lots of time and money on him getting him into daily comfortable use, and include
New Carb.
Gearbox overall to stop the very annoying jumping out of third.
New master and slave cylinder.
New door tops
Fume curtain
Defender heater
New seat bases
New wiper motors
Mats / soundproofing throughout
..and lots of other things i cant think of at the moment.
He's on a fantastic chassis and bodywork (rot wise) its 100 percent clean which is why i bought him. Few dents on the body but does nothing to effect the look. Someone looks to have fitted a snorkel in the past and a hole in the wing top is plugged with a plastic bung (can't say i every really notice) but thought i would mention. Gearbox is now 100 percent. Transfer box works as should. Engine is great, and starts every time, uses a bit of oil but that's more likely to be because I'm using semi synthetic which they were never designed for (photos are taken while engine running). Its the petrol (perhaps not original engine) and not fantastic mpg but to be honest these are not cars for high mileage folks. I have the original wheels for it (two tyres good two need replacing) which are in with the sale. There is a decent set of wheels and tyres on it now. I have got rid of the terrible and leaking smiths heater and fitted a defender heater which is miles better (see pic. of mod to inside to accommodate). Mats and sound proofing fitted which is not for everyone but does mean you can talk to your passenger, if you don't like just peel off. Rag top in great condition, with new fume curtain. One of the clocks has a crack (see pic)
Please come and look, not for the rivet counter or purest but very clean, fun to drive and a real head turner, and mods to make it a daily albeit local drive.
Tax exempt with 1 months MOT but will put 12 months on it if it exceeds £4,500. It will sail through.
Located in SOUTH WEST SCOTLAND 'GIRVAN' AREA.

1966 Land Rover Series IIA V8 - For Sale £7950 ONO - Chester
1966 | D Registered | 3.5 Rover V8 | 3.54 High Ratio Diffs | Freewheeling Hubs | 11” Front Brakes | New Hood | Recently Serviced | MOT’d until 7th April 2017
Specification:
1966 model on original chassis. 3.5l Rover V8 engine with twin carbs from the Range Rover Classic, coupled to 3.54 (high ratio) Range Rover differentials via the strong Series IIA 4spd manual transmission. Parabolic springs all round, rebuilt axles with 11” LWB brakes on the front, coupled to a servo. Electric in-tank fuel pump. LWB steel wheels with 7.50x16 radial Michelin off road tyres. Brand new full removable canvas tilt, exhaust system from manifolds back, battery, fuel tank, radiator, and door tops. Fresh fluids and filters. Original Marine Blue paint. Original Cheshire registration. Accompanying the vehicle is a full specification sheet with service parts listed making maintenance easy.
Description:
The Series IIA is considered by many the hardiest Series model constructed, having the same main design as the original Series 1, but improved upon in many areas. It is the type of classic Land Rover that features strongly in the general public's perception of the Land Rover, and its shape was carried right through to the most recent Defender, which only this year has seized production after its long 67 year life span.
This particular model is the archetypal blue ‘Regular’ short wheel base (88”), but with a twist… It has a very powerful 3.5 litre Rover V8 lifted from a Range Rover Classic! It starts readily and runs well, ticking over with a gorgeous smooth ‘burble’ at the tailpipe. It will cruise around town and country very smoothly, but floor the throttle pedal and accelerates very well (for an old Land Rover anyway)! It will sit at 60-65 mph all day long. Don’t be put off by the fuel economy, it has the same, if not better MPG than a standard 2.25 petrol engined vehicle. It will pull up to a stop nice and straight with the uprated, servo assisted brakes. On road of off it, the vehicle is very capable and manoeuvrable, with its parabolic springs and tall tyres.
The chassis and bulkhead are believed to be completely original, but have had repairs in the past to a good standard, including new rear cross member, front dumb irons and new outriggers… Most of it’s new! It has also been fully undersealed inside and out to protect it for the future. The bulkhead is mildly modified to accept the V8 engine. The vehicle has been recommissioned by the previous owner over the winter, since it has been out of use since 1998, until he found it and decided to get it back on the road. The exterior of the vehicle has been resprayed to a good standard in its original colour, and inside the paintwork still has a lovely original patina. The interior is good; with vinyl ‘Deluxe’ front seats and rear bench seats for passengers. There are auxiliary volt and oil pressure gauges, a 12v socket for a satnav, the original Smiths round heater, and a rare hand throttle that still works! The vehicle has a very long MoT until 7th April 2017.
This vehicle would make a fantastic investment, that can be used, enjoyed and cherished, ideal for those hood-off trips down the pub on a summers evening!

Land Rover Series 2 1966 Tax exempt. Galvanised Chassis. Overdrive.
Here for sale is my trusty Series 2 that I've had the pleasure of owning for the last 5 years! It'll be a shame to sell and everyone tells me not to but unfortunately I fancy moving onto something else and it just sits in my garage not really getting the love and attention it needs. It certainly isn't a show winner, please take time to look at the photo's that I've put up and viewing is obviously more than welcome, bear with me though as I have a pretty hectic schedule!
I can write about it all day so I thought I'd just summarise its good points below..
Bad Points:
Bodywork is pretty rough and there isn't many straight panels on her. They all have some sort of character adding dent on them,,
It won't come with the white 8 spoke wheels as in the photos. It'll come with standard series 2 SWB rims with BFGoodrich Trac Edge tyres. Wheels are solid but scruffy.
General interior is a tad scruffy.
Bulkhead is solid with many new repair panels but isn't the neatest of bulkheads.
Good Points:
New Richards Galvanised chassis which I purchased and put on. I would new to check but I doubt its even done 1000miles since its been built on it. Etch primed and Sprayed black.
Very nice 2.25 petrol engine, starts well, runs well and burns very little oil. It has a 8:1 head fitted and Zenith carb which makes it pull surprisingly well for what it is.
Fairey Overdrive. Engages and Disengages nicely. Slight whine when engaged but I think they all do?!
Obviously Tax Exempt due to is age (1966).
Mot'ed until December 2015.
