The Land Rover Defender is an off-road vehicle produced under this name by the British manufacturer, Land Rover, since 1991. However, the vehicle is the direct heir of the first Land Rover that made its debut in 1948. The first prototype was built by the British automaker in 1947 and it was designed for the army. This iconic car was improved over the years and it has been known for generations as a national treasure.

Land Rover Series 2A SWB 1963 2.25 Petrol 12 Months MOT - Tax Exempt
Sellers Comments First registered on 18th March 1963 it has a new 12 month MOT (expires 26 Feb 18) and is tax exempt due to its age. Starts, runs and stops well. Someone has fitted a brake servo at some point which no doubt helps with stopping! Bought by me in 2010 with the intention of gradually improving it, I've done a few things to it but don't now have the time to carry on with it, so it's time to pass it on to someone else. Fairey Overdrive Towball Heated Front Screens 'simonbbc' Electronic Ignition Optima Red Top battery (really impressed with this) New Exmoor Trim seats Recent new brake and clutch master cylinders It has the front appearance of a late Series 2A but I have all (or virtually all) of the parts required to turn it back to its original appearance. I also have the hood sticks and almost new canvas tilt to turn it into a soft top if required. Please see the photos - all these items are available by separate negotiation and will be offered to the winning bidder. If not wanted they will be auctioned separately later. It needed a bit of work for its MOT - some welding to the nearside leaf spring mounting and new headlamps and wiring to the rear lamps and tow socket. There were several advisories on the MOT - some slight play to the offside front wheel bearing, offside central chassis outrigger corroded and a note that the tyres are starting to perish. Other bits that you need to be aware of - as you can see from the photos it would benefit from a repaint, there are freewheeling hubs on the front, but one of them is stuck, the speedometer overreads wildly, there is some corrosion to the bottom of the door frames below the bottom hinges, and in the outer end of the nearside footwell. I've tried to show the detail in the photos, but let me know if you need more pictures. Aside from that I think it's all fine, or as fine as a 54-year old Land Rover tends to be. Very usable as it is, or could form the basis of a gradual rolling restoration. There is no reserve, and no buy it now price - to be fair to all bidders I will let the auction run to its end. Payment by Paypal within 24 hours of auction end please, or cash on collection from Haslemere, Surrey.
