Land Rover Series 2a 88, (1963)

Land Rover Series 2a 88, (1963)

Sellers Comments -

Very solid tax exempt series 2a,MOT until September 2015 and only one advisory on brake adjustment. Vehicle check Clear and cert available.
It has a series 3 bulkhead fitted, Discovery rear Diff,I also have a Disco Diff for the front that hasn't been fitted yet with prop that is included.
I only aquired recently but change of plans, its now for sale.

Previous MOTs not showing any issues with body or chassis, only visible thing I can see is where it has had chequer plate fitted in the past to front wing tops. This is a 50 year old vehicle that would make a good running resto, so be aware of this.

Remember you are bidding to buy not haggle on collection, I would like £100 deposit via paypal on winning the auction, and cash on collection within 3 days of auction ending, no show will be reported to ebay.

Viewing recommended.

Land Rover Series 2a 1962 body off rebuild, New MOT

Land Rover Series 2a 1962 body off rebuild, New MOT

Sellers Comments
I bought this vehicle three years ago as a rolling project. My original intention was to patch it up for fun. But after a few months I decided to change tack. Here was a car that had had an extremely hard working life and too many worn or incorrect components to simply throw it back together.  And since I was now going the whole rebuild route why not have a near impossible objective of retaining all the car's historic features and authenticy whilst trying to build in a bit more longevity than usual?  I still didn't want the nice shiney facsimile which seems to be the outcome from so many commercial rebuilds. I wanted the car to end up a genuine item still telling it's story. So, three years and over £6,000 worth of parts later, it's still got some dents and dings and imperfections. I think it's entitled to them.

It's also got:
-  MOT from 3 March. No advisories
-  heavy duty galvanised chassis
-  rebuilt galvanised bulkhead with heavy duty footwells to original pattern.
-  new galvanised fuel tank
-  galvanised remanufactured front panel
-  totally rebuilt tub floor with all new ribs and rails and a thicker floor plate.
-  professional remanufactured clutch operating mechanism, fitted with stainless steel sleeve to minimise future wear
-  professionally rebuilt original radiator with new core
-  fully rebuilt axles front and rear with quality bearings and seals
-  four new British-made road springs with Armstrong shocks
-  new Mintex brake shoes, pistons, and refurbed original combined brake/clutch fluid reservoir
-  new OEM swivels fitted with old school leather gaiters
-  rebuilt doors with new skins, seals and new door tops with plastic window runners
-  new heavy duty, higher output dynamo
-  new Land Rover battery
-  professionally rebuilt original wiper motors
-  new wiring loom
-  new screen washers
-  professionally rebuilt period Clayton heater (yes, that's the one that works!)
-  rebuilt seat bench
-  galvanised front wing struts
-  new inner wing panels
- full set new Automec copper brake pipes with stainless front flexies
-  period catflap and tailgate with complete set of fittings and new lock
-  set of five refurbed SWB wheels in bronze green for fitting tyres of your choice.
( At present she's running on LWB slave wheels with good winter tyres).
-  new water pump fitted. Timing cover removed and the usual rusted bolts removed (eventually!) and replaced with new
-  period sidelights and indicators ( with hazard flashers)
- new Lucas replica headlamps of the period
- new towhitch
- refurbed MAP free wheel hubs
- stainless steel inserts in place of rotted ends of rear panels on each side of tailgate
- seat belts
- door and wing mirros
- body fitted with new plated bolts throughout (not metric!)
- refurbed siderails and correct deep sills

The engine is pretty much as was apart from the work on timing cover. Starts well and runs fine. No smoke, equal compression. Been serviced with new plugs, leads, points, coil etc.
Clutch and gearbox are also unmolested apart from rebuilding of the original clutch operating mechanism. There are still some minor issues: the fuel guage sort of works but not properly and the engine overheat thermostat sticks, with the red light on (so I've disconnected it pending finding a replacement). There's a minor rain leak under the windscreen - despite new seals. Paintwork looks better in the pix as usual but is OK.

The vehicle comes with a photographic record of the rebuild and a seriously huge pile of bills. I stopped counting a while back. There's also a letter from Land Rover confirming the original delivery of vehicle. It's registered as a "Station Tractor". Was apparently used off the public road for first 20 years of it's life and was off again for the past 10 years, presumably awaiting rescue.

Vehicle is available for inspection. This is strongly recommended. Despite the extent of the work it should be realised that this is still an old used vehicle of an old design for old style motoring ( eg no synchro on first 2 gears, slight bit of steering wander, bit of oil on floor ( despite new seals, that's how it is with these motors). Keeping this car will always require a bit of effort and it offered as a work in progress. But hopefully the work so far will ensure it's survival for a good while yet. As you can imagine this is a reluctant sale after so much work but I've got way behind with other projects that are now becoming urgent so it unfortunately has to go.

Complete overdrive kit available at extra cost.

Land Rover Defender 110 Td5 County Double Cab DC, Winch, Heated seats

Sellers Comments
Land Rover Defender 110 Td5 County

Regretful sale of my Defender 110 Td5 due to buying a newer Puma 110. I was intending to keep this vehicle for a long time but when the opportunity came to purchase a TDCi at a good price I couldn't turn it down,

When I bought it (18 months ago) it was given a full mechanical once over and once I was satisfied it was a sound vehicle I took the engine out and fitted a new crank oil seal, along with a new dual mass flywheel and clutch (genuine OEM). Once back in the engine had a new drive belt and radiator. Coolant has been renewed along with all the oils including the gearbox (Genuine Land Rover oil used), transfer box, axles (rear is a Salisbury unit), and swivels. Both engine oil filters were changed and has had an oil change every 6 months regardless of mileage, so has had an oil change every 2000 miles! Fuel and air filters changed regularly. New rear propshaft, front prop joints, rear A frame joint and drive flanges. New pads all round and two new rear wheel bearings. Anything that showed any wear was changed.

Factory Fit ABS / Traction control / anti stall (which works off road too)

Chassis is sound with no rust and has never been welded.

Tow bar and electrics.

Bodywork has the odd dent and scratch (not from me!) but looks presentable enough.

The tyres are General Grabber 235/85 16s (x5) which were fitted less than 18 months ago. Locking wheel nuts (x5)

Raised air intake fitted properly and sealed to the intake system.

On the inside, the front seats were both retrimmed with Exmoor trim covers and new cushions were used. I also fitted the heated seat elements, the switches for which now reside in the front of the new cubby box. There are two settings for the heated seats where the standard system has one.  A new Kenwood head unit was fitted about 12 months ago along with new set of upgraded front speakers (using Mud UK speaker spacers which allow big speakers over standard). I have temporarily fitted two rear speakers. There is also a Parrot handsfree system which was professionally fitted before I bought the vehicle which works remarkably well. New mats in the rear bought a couple of weeks ago. Brand new 2015 genuine leather steering wheel.

The front winch is a genuine Warn item with an Albright remote solenoid fitted in the engine bay. I have wired the vehicle so it can either be operated via wireless remote control (x2) from the outside or from the inside using a Carling switch on the central dash. I have also fitted a master switch cut out on the front seatbox to allow the winch to be completely isolated. The feeble plastic centre dash panel has been replaced with a Mud UK one with two 12v aux sockets. I would like to have fitted the winch on my new vehicle but would have needed a new winch bumper because of the aircon.

The vehicle has a stamped part service history along with all the MOTs going back to 2005.
When looking through all the paperwork, I have added up all the money previously spent on the vehicle and there is a document trail for about £4000. This is before my ownership and I have probably spent the same amount again on it.

When I put the winch and winch bumper on, I uprated the suspension slightly so that the vehicle sat level with the additional weight of the winch on the front. This meant new springs and shocks all round.

I would like to retain the top rear flap for my new vehicle. The canopy can go with the vehicle.

I have a Nanocom diagnostic tool which shows no faults, historical or otherwise.

I also have a rebuilt high ratio transfer box from a Discovery with a brand new input gear with new bearings (£££!) which would give a better cruising speed when fitted. It was my next job to fit this but is of no use to me if the vehicle goes so you are welcome to this.

Most people reading this ad will know that production of the Defender will stop in December this year, and order books for the last of the new vehicles are filling up quick. Values of good Defenders like this one will surely rise and this is your chance to own an Icon.

I'm sure there are some other things that have been done to it that I have forgotten but if you have any questions please ask.

Apologies to the genuine buyers, but no silly offers please. I know what the vehicle is worth and it's not the end of the world if I end up keeping it. Those with a grim feedback or no feedback at all will have their bids removed.

I work shifts so it will probably be easier to contact me via eBay. No Paypal please. Cash or Bank transfer

Happy Bidding!!

LAND ROVER SERIES 2a (IIa) 1965 FULLY RESTORED 88" 2.25 DIESEL STUNNING!

Land Rover Series 2a - 1965 - 88” - 2.25 original diesel

  • Tax free and classic car insurance (£65 per year)
  • Fully restored – stunning example with extensive history
  • £000’a spent with many news parts
  • One year’s MOT with no advisories + vehicle tax renewed in January

Here for sale is my stunning restored 1965 Land Rover Series 2a 88”. This stunning original car has been lovely restored over the last three years and is in fantastic useable condition. I have been careful not to lose the originality of the car and it still has a lovely feel and patina.

It has the original 2.25 three bearing crank Diesel engine with overdrive making it a very useable and practical vehicle returning a very respectable 30 mpg. This is your chance to own a rare and appreciating classic, this lovely example has had a very labour and cash extensive restoration. To maintain its originality, this vehicle has been thoughtfully and carefully restored with lots of time and money spent.

Previous history

This lovely car has had only four previous owners. The vehicle comes with a comprehensive history, original hand books and manuals etc. Including a diary hand/ book listing works and services carried out from November 1976 to present day. From 1967 to 2007 the vehicle was owned by two brothers, both mechanics from Bulwell in Nottingham UK. During this time the vehicle wanted for nothing explaining why, when it was bought unrestored by a previous owner in 07 the vehicle was in fantastic condition for its age, the vehicle was then taken to the Channel Islands and subsequently returned again where it was used in London.

The previous owner then purchased the vehicle in 2012 and spent a vast amount of money restoring it further. I purchased the vehicle last year and have subsequently carried out a full respray on the car externally with much of the internal areas shot blasted and resprayed, added a new stick set and tilt and also had the bottom of the car fully undersealed and wax oiled. My intention was to keep the Landy as a second car as it is pretty much free motoring now, however I am very reluctantly selling the car now as I am a property developer and I have several projects on so need to liquidate funds.

Chassis and bodywork

The Chassis is the original Series 2a chassis which is in excellent solid condition no welding or corrosion, this is extremely rare to find as many restored Landy’s have replacement chassis which in my opinion makes them non original. The Bulkhead has been completely restored. Body panels all removed. Bulkhead sandblasted new panels plates, seam sealed etc. Hopefully you can see from the photographs.

At the end of last year the car was fully resprayed in the correct and original deep bronze green and looks absolutely stunning. The panels are all straight and true with no significant dings or damage, the external galvanised parts looks excellent and many of the original items have been regalvanised. All five steel wheels have been fully shot blasted and resprayed and look great.

Internally the rear cab has also been shot blasted and resprayed and she also has new floor panels which have had the same treatment. Both the doors have been resprayed internally. The rear tailgate was sourced from an original Series 2a and has been fully sprayed inside and out.

She also has a new windscreen and has original chrome surround and glass indicators and side light lenses which are very rare.

The engine and running gear

The Engine is the original diesel 2.225cc in excellent condition and starts on the key first time in all weathers. It maintains perfect oil pressure and temperature at all times. According to the history the engine was overhauled by rover about 40.000 miles ago.

The engine block and top end was stripped and inspected last year checking bores pistons - everything measured out just fine; all well within the tolerances; the top end was overhauled and rebuilt with new head gasket. Plenty of years left in the old girl, she is totally reliable and dependable. I would say she achieves around 30 mpg which is fantastic for a car of this age and type.

Running gear all overhauled lots of work and money spent. Has very rare selectro, heavy duty free wheeling hubs.

Gear box, suspension, electrics and other parts

Gear Box has been overhauled new clutch etc. the gearbox is lovely and quiet all gears select fine; the overdrive is superb and very quiet.

Electrics - The vehicle has had a complete re-wire, new wiring loom etc.

Brakes - The brakes have been completely overhauled with new parts all round.

Suspension - She sits on new parabolic springs and matching shocks all around.

Five new army style off road tyres.

Internal instruments and rear cab

The interior is excellent and the car benefits from new seats in the front and rear plus rare link mats in both front and rear.

The car has an original Smiths heater which actually throws out quite a lot of heat and also original wiper motors for both driver’s and passenger’s side. All the instruments work exactly how they should and are in excellent condition.

The car also benefits from original overdrive which makes it a totally useable vehicle for modern condition on any type of road. On a motorway or dual carriageway you can easily and comfortably achieve 60 mph without too much fuss, without the overdrive the car would be almost impossible to use on normal roads (without upsetting a lot of people).

She also is remarkably fuel efficient and returns on average around 30 mpg making this the most useable of classic cars.

The Landy also benefits from a new galvanised hoop set and full hood from Exmoor trim finished in lovely sand colour.

Recent services

In 2013 there have been full services carried out all fluids oils were drained and replaced, the gearbox and rear diff had slick 50 added, the breaks have also been cleaned and set up etc.

Also last year the car has had another fluid check and service with an additional fluid check carried out in February of this year.

The Landy has just been in for an MOT and has a full MOT with no advisories, the vehicle tax was renewed in January for a year and is obviously tax free.

To summarise, I'm sure you'll agree this is a lovely example of this classic Landover; it is a genuine reluctant sale. If you are unable to view the vehicle I'm happy to send further detailed photographs, should you require any further information please let me know? Viewings are welcome and recommended.

This is your chance to purchase a fully restored classic that will provide you years of trouble free motoring and a minimal cost. With the Defender now being discontinued and prices of all Land Rovers rocketing up in recent years this has to be a sound investment and far more entertaining than leaving your money in the bank.

The car can be viewed with prior arrangement in the Haywards Heath area (RH16) - please feel free to contact me to arrange a viewing or ask any further questions.
