The Land Rover Defender is an off-road vehicle produced under this name by the British manufacturer, Land Rover, since 1991. However, the vehicle is the direct heir of the first Land Rover that made its debut in 1948. The first prototype was built by the British automaker in 1947 and it was designed for the army. This iconic car was improved over the years and it has been known for generations as a national treasure.

I have for sale my very rare factory Land Rover 90 V8 3.5L County Station Wagon. This is a genuine 90 V8 CSW verified by the VIN and logbook and is one of the first 90 V8's. The vehicle is totally original and has is when it left the factory. All the numbers match up that is chassis number, engine number, ViN and logbook.
There are hardly any of these for sale these days.
I bought it recently has a project to do up but at the moment its sat on my driveway not doing much and I feel I'm not going to have the time to commit to it. I occasionally start the engine up to keep the battery charged. I've started by removing the headlights to replace the rotted light bowls and changed the spark plugs; that's as far as I got.
Please be aware this is a project and has no MOT. It will need to be trailered away.
Some info:
- Low mileage at 89,690. This looks genuine going through the past MOT history.
- Power steering.
- New spark plugs fitted a few weeks ago.
- All headlining and window trim present.
- Cubby box.
- Outer panels look fairly straight with a dent to one of the wings.
- Chassis is solid. Outriggers are solid. Rear cross member is starting to get rusty but still has some years of use. There are two weld patches to the chassis.
- Bulkhead ends have been replaced.
- New Battery.
- County side stripes.
- Engine runs and drives. The original Stromberg carbs needs tuning as fuel is running a bit rich. Choke needs to be used on cold days but when the air ambient is warm, the engine starts on the button.
- 5 speed gearbox and all gears select well without any crunching. Clutch is good but the input shaft bearing is noisy when clutch pedal is not depressed. When the pedal is pressed, the noise disappears.
- Brakes need looking at as a bit spongy but they still work. May just need bleeding.
- Original interior. However there is damage to the drivers foam base and there is a missing rear seat base as shown in the pictures.
- Footwells are starting to look tired and are rusty but no nasty holes.
- Passenger side bottom door pillar has a small hole.
- Comes with the original 5 off Rostyle wheels and set of Freestyle alloys.
- Load of receipts and old MOT certificates.
- V5 in my name.
- One key.
- Exportable to the US.
All in all a very nice and super rare 90 V8 CSW that needs a bit of TLC for MOT and would be great for a collector once done up.
I can assist for export as I reside in Southampton and close to the docks.
Now the boring bits. Please no timewasters or know it all's. I've dealt with a load of timewasters in the past and if you don't have the funds please do not bid and move on.
I know there are many genuine people out there so please don't spoil the auction for them. I will require a £300 non refundable deposit to be paid immediately after end of auction and the remaining cash on collection or instant bank transfer. No paypal please. If you cannot pay a deposit then do not bid.
Also please no silly offers as I know what it's worth. Fully restored are going for £15k and there's another outside ebay listed at £30k.
Timewasters and tyre kickers will be reported to Ebay. Also please don't come and haggle the price down when the auction has ended. Whatever it goes for is the price you will have to pay so I welcome viewings before end of auction to avoid disappointment.
Please do your own checks to satisfy your needs.
I'm happy to assist in transportation if you live a million miles away.
This is a private sale so the landy is strictly sold as seen.

After 70 years of all-terrain adventures and global expeditions, Land Rover has once again taken the Defender to new heights.
Spectacular 250m wide Defender outline drawn in the snow at 2,700m in the French Alps to mark Land Rover’s 70th anniversary
Defender outline created by snow artist Simon Beck who walked out 20,894 steps in sub-zero temperatures
Land Rover announces World Land Rover Day: 30 April 2018 marks 70 years since its debut at the 1948 Amsterdam Motor Show
Drawing was a tribute to the Wilks brothers’ first sketch of the original Land Rover shape in the sand of Red Wharf Bay, Anglesey, UK
Celebration broadcast on World Land Rover Day will pay tribute to the original Land Rover, as well as the luxurious Range Rover and versatile Discovery families
-- Stretching over 250 metres, the spectacular Defender outline was imprinted on the side of a mountain in the French Alps. The one-off snow art was created to announce World Land Rover Day on 30 April, exactly 70 years since the original Land Rover was first shown to the world at the 1948 Amsterdam Motor Show. The unique image is a tribute to the moment when the engineering director of Rover, Maurice Wilks, first sketched the shape for the original Land Rover in the sand of Red Wharf Bay and proposed the idea to his brother Spencer, Rover's managing director. The forward-thinking design was eventually christened the 'Land Rover'; the outline of which we now recognise as the Defender. Those first sand sketches went on to create one of the most iconic vehicles in the world and ultimately led to the creation a company that has become the most famous 4x4 manufacturer on the planet. Land Rover is an iconic brand around the world and the outline of the Defender is instantly recognisable. To reach the landmark of 70 years is truly special and we will mark it with a year of celebrations that represents Land Rover's ‘Above and Beyond’ spirit and honours the people behind the world’s favourite SUVs. PROF DR RALF SPETH, JAGUAR LAND ROVER CEO Land Rover is inviting fans to join the celebrations in a World Land Rover Day online broadcast. It stars the people who helped create the world’s most-loved 4x4s and Land Rover’s pioneering technologies, from its Series Land Rover and Defender origins, to the introduction of the Range Rover in 1970 and Discovery in 1989. Snow artist Simon Beck, who specialises in creating geometric outlines on foot, braved sub-zero temperatures to start the celebrations by creating the Defender outline 2,700m up at La Plagne in the French Alps. Driving a Defender to get close to the 2,700m to produce the high-altitude artwork, Beck then walked 20,894 steps and 16.5km (10.2 miles) through the French Alps. He said: “Making my snow art requires endurance, accuracy and strength – all attributes shared with the Defender. Its iconic shape is so simple and recognised across the world; this must be the most recognisable piece of art I’ve ever made.”
